Fixed Rate Mortgage In Canada – To Go For It Or Not
Deciding to obtain a mortgage on your home is probably one of the most important decisions you will make in your life. The next important decision is to decide what type of mortgage will be suitable for you – the Fixed Mortgage Rate or the Variable Rate Mortgage. This is never an easy decision as there are no clear cut answers to the question. Home mortgages usually last for long terms such as 5 years or 10 years.

Lesson #1: Employees are the Engine of Your Company
“I always felt that our people came first,” says Kelleher. “Some of the business schools regarded that as a conundrum. They would say: Which comes first, your people, your customers, or your shareholders? And I would say, it's not a conundrum. Your people come first, and if you treat them right, they'll treat the customers right, and the customers will come back, and that'll make the shareholders happy.”

Co-Creating Know, Like and Trust
I am giving a talk this afternoon at the Inbound Marketing Summit in Boston and here is the essence of the message I plan to deliver.

What Is Your Plan
To some extent we all multi-task and have numerous responsibilities that can, at times, seem overwhelming. The key is to learn how to manage the responsibility by planning for it. Believe it or not, day to day activities are less stressful when you implement a plan.

Sustainability – the new criteria
What is your position on SUSTAINABILITY? What community improvement activities is your company involved with? These are questions, among many others, that my team and I are responding to for a Request For Proposal (RFP) document for a sales training project with a large Australian Corporation. This is the first time we have been asked to respond to these questions in a formal manner and legitimise our position on ‘sustainability’. As sales people and as business owners, not only are we being asked to legitimise our product offering, our service standards, etc. we are now required to articulate our stand on ‘sustainability’.

Take Note
I would like to focus on something, that at first glance, may appear rather trivial. In fact it might seem so inane that you are wondering why I am even writing about it. It’s ‘note taking’. I learnt a very salient, if not embarrassing, lesson in my early 20’s. When in my first sales consulting role I turned up to a sales meeting with a prospective client with no obvious note taking materials. Up until that time I had never been told to take notes by my managers. I hadn’t thought about talking notes myself. I relied on my memory.

What were my concerns with Internet Marketing as my profession?
When starting out on this journey of entrepreneurship, I had heard so much about internet marketing. There is so much information about people making hundreds of thousands of dollars with minimal work hours, that it is easy to succeed in this business, that there is money flowing on the internet. Some of the rumors were true and some were false, as with all things in life.

Getting back to the sales basics
I don't know about you but recently I have found myself getting more and more distracted by the latest trend and fads, especially the social media phenomena. My reason for this is that I have been trying to get my head around social media and specifically, the impact on the sales profession. I like to keep on top of what is current, what is emerging, and what is still an idea. This is why I make time each week to do research as it helps me navigate my way around the present and into the future. However, I am finding there is so much to read, so much to get my head around, and so much to integrate into my business that it can take up a lot of time... and it only seems to be increasing. I read recently that 20 years ago information was doubling every 5 years, 10 years ago it was doubling every 18 months and today

Can Social Media be a value proposition for you and your customers?
Today I had a meeting with our external online team to present a Social Media strategy for one of our small business programs. I was basically told that Social Media cannot be used as a value proposition for our small business clients. What I have learned over my experience over the last 10 years is to never discount new ways of thinking.

Out with the old and in with the new…
Common Communication Strategies It has been my experience over the last 10 years most corporate intranets are modeled in the following fashion; new information comes into the intranet group and is then coded and released for general consumption. Before information is released to the internal network it will go through a variety of checks and balances, approvals and re-edits, before finally “landing on the desk” of the intranet team. It is then coded and released in priority order. This model relies exclusively on the intranet team to get messages and information out to employees. Does this sound familiar?

Evolving to adopt Social Media…
For my company it’s no longer a nice-to-have. Within the next five to 10 years, our younger workforce will expect us to match the pace of the Internet and deploy social media tools. If we don’t our messages will not be heard.

Build Prosperity and Strong Relationships With L.O.V.E
I had the honour recently of interviewing Evelyn Tian. Evelyn is a Singaporean woman living in Australia. She shared a story that started with volunteering to pack and send envelopes for the 2000 Olympics Committee here in Australia 10 years ago. That simple act of giving lead to an amazing trail of events that lead to her becoming the African Attache for the Olympics and Para-Olympics. This started Evelyn on an incredible journey to Africa for 6 months where she worked with disabled women and children, introducing wheelchair sports and fund raising for home made wheelchairs. She is now working toward helping disabled orphans in Africa.

21st Century Leadership and The One Page Business Plan
We believe one of the major oversights in business in the last 30 years is the failure of management to ask the average manager, professional and/or employee to WRITE a plan for their job, department, project, program, and/or their function. Sr. executives have always been required to write "strategic plans" albeit they have not always done an excellent job, they were required to write a plan.

How to Increase Your Productivity and Profit From Your Image
I attended a business women's event last week and was amazed at how many of the attendees presented themselves. This was a business event and the way in which many of them dressed you would have thought they were going to a local football game! I met a 'coach' who raved about how successful she was and what she does for her clients. This person was at least 10kgs overweight, her chest was exposed and her clothes were very inappropriate for a business environment. If you were looking for a coach, would you consider investing in her services? She obviously had her own issues to deal with. What she said didn't match how she looked. In contrast there was the mortgage broker who was dressed extremely well in a tailored suit, who obviously took pride in her appearance and looked confident and competent.

7 Ways To Have A Productive Day
Why is it in life that when something is working, you stop doing it? Jack has a well-established electronics business which he started 10 years ago. Over this time the business has grown and he now has a team of 7 people. When Jack initially contacted me, he was at a point he felt like walking away from his business. He was working in the business at least 10 hours a day and it was consuming his life. There was no time left for him to do anything else (or so he thought). After clarifying what Jack really wanted to achieve both in the business and personally, the first task I had him undertake was to fill in the special time sheets I have devised. He did this for 2 weeks. We discovered that Jack was wasting at least two hours each day because of his lack of planning.

After ten years the plan was to retire: either Trevor could sell his business and generate a retirement fund, or pass the business onto his children with it paying him a yearly consultancy fee to see him through his twilight years. But after ten years neither was possible. Nobody would buy his business and his children perceived it to be a liability.

It is that life is comprised of one screw up after another. Yes, you heard me right! Oh, we don’t mean to but one way or another we do and in my case more times than you might imagine, especially earlier in my life.
