Lesson #1: Create a Better User Experience
“When we started this company a few years ago, we never expected to be here,” says Hurley. “It’s interesting how this simple idea, improving our own video experience online, turned into this.”

Lesson #3: You Do Not Need to Be a Pro to See Your Business Grow
“My first vivid memory is watching mom in a restaurant kitchen,” recalls Ray. “She was flipping something with a spatula. I tried to copy her and ended up grilling my right thumb. I was three or four.”

Lesson #4: Learn to See a Problem for its Potential
When Ray moved from New York City back to her hometown of Lake George, New York, she was not quite sure what life had in store for her yet. She had had some success as a food buyer, but knew that was not what she wanted to be doing for the rest of her life. All she knew was that she was tired of life in the big city, and went back home to figure things out. Little did she know that it would be a life-changing decision for her.

The Not-To-Do List: 9 Habits to Stop Now
“Not-to-do” lists are often more effective than to-do lists for upgrading performance. The reason is simple: what you don’t do determines what you can do. Here are nine stressful and common habits that entrepreneurs and office workers should strive to eliminate. The bullets are followed by more detailed descriptions. Focus on one or two at a time, just as you would with high-priority to-do items. I’ve worded them in no-to-do action form:

Leadership
A team of all-stars or an all-star team? When my wife and I were in Sydney, Australia, we had an opportunity to attend a performance of the Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra at the famed Opera House. The seats were choice, our night was free, so we jumped at the opportunity. When we arrived 30 minutes early, the orchestra members were already warming up. The individuals came in all sizes, ages and colors, and were both male and female. Some of them, like the cymbals player, would perform five or six seconds during the entire evening, while the cellist had one part that would extend over 20 minutes. As they warmed up, the "music" sounded like noise to me.

A Small Set of Simple Moves

Multitasking...people say they do it with pride. They say their kids multitask because they're wired differently. Problem is psychologists, sociologists, people who study people say it simply isn't true. So what we're really doing is moving from task to task in nanoseconds so it feels like all the jobs are getting done in parallel. Maybe that's why our wife says we can mess up more things in less time than anyone she knows.

Dear Jane, Why can't I ever finish anything? Why do I procrastinate so much? Most of us think we are simply lazy when we procrastinate. A Strategic Look At Dos and Donts of Board Meeting Minutes From Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach
Do you serve on a board of directors and experience significant inaccuracies and inconsistencies in board minutes? Do you know that board minutes are really a very important resource to governing boards? Minutes of board meetings provide evidence that a board has exercised care in decision-making. The minutes also substantiate that a board is operating in accordance with its Bylaws and other documents and rules. Although there is recognition that board minutes are important, many organizations continue to have inadequate records of board meetings. Your strategic thinking business coach offers a list of the DO’s and DON’Ts of board meeting minutes.

Why Are Meetings One Hour Long?
The vast majority of meetings in the business world are scheduled for one hour. I think this is a paradigm we should challenge for several reasons. 1. Like an old habit, we just fall into the pattern without even thinking about it. 2. We lose track of those extremely valuable minutes within the hour format. We can do better than that. 3. The meeting itself is often inefficient as there is time to schmooze for the first 20 minutes or so, and most of the decisions occur in the final 10 minutes of a meeting. There are many techniques for squeezing more usable time from our daily schedule – and we really need them. Next time you schedule a meeting, try making it 50 minutes rather than an hour. It will emphasize the importance of the minutes and save time in the bargain.
