From his humble beginnings in the south of Sweden, Kamprad has used his entrepreneurial drive to become the richest man in the world, with a net worth of $28 billion. |

| In 1997, the UK’s largest supermarket, Tesco, decided to join forces with the Royal Bank of Scotland, the fifth largest bank in the world. Together, in a fifty-fifty joint venture, Tesco Personal Finance was formed. Since its initial launch those few years ago, it has grown to become the UK’s most successful supermarket bank, with over five million customer accounts, 22 financial products for sale, and more than ₤130 million in annual profits. A unique initiative, Tesco has had a number of industry firsts that stand behind its impressive rise to the top. |

| It was rainy and damp, filled with good times and great learning experiences. The SHRM 2009 Annual Conference and Exposition drew over 6,000 Human Resource professionals from across the country to New Orleans, LA for 4 days of learning and fun. |

The Day our Icons let us down
| |
| In the seventies Marks and Spencer plc, in UK was the icon of the retail industry. Everyone used M&S as a benchmark by which they measured their performance and aspired to achieve. National Westminster Bank was the biggest bank in UK and the bank that handled the Bank of England. British Airways was the major airline in the world and a company that other airlines looked up to.
There were similar organizations in North America as well and other parts of the world.
Then the world changed. In the 80’s the world shifted gear. The icons were found to be set in their traditional ways. In fact all three of these companies were challenged to the level that they nearly disappeared. |

HR Technology Conference- Closing Thoughts

It was my third invitation to speak at a CIPSA event in my capacity as a professional representing the sales profession. The theme for this conference was ‘Managing Volatility’. A key message I gleaned from the conference was Value Management rather than the narrow band width of Cost Management. |

| t was hot hot hot in Las Vegas last month, as thousands of HR professionals from around the globe gathered for the SHRM 2011 Annual Conference and Exposition. Although temperatures were at or above 100 degrees each day, the weather wasn’t the only hot topic of conversation. The conference provided four outstanding days of continuous learning experiences and good times. |
