Measure yourself as a manager Go for gold
| |
| Going for gold; what does it mean and what is your ‘gold’?
You can never achieve anything lasting that is not in your nature. You cannot achieve anything that you have not a natural inclination for, with of course the appropriate mental and physical attributes.
A gold medal is nothing without self worth – think of the Olympic athletes, or Tour de France cyclists who cheated, who took performance enhancing drugs, to achieve gold. Gold at any cost is not worth it. Such an attitude demeans the perpetrators and will not allow them to grow as human beings to reach their full natural potential – high, low or indifferent.

The 21st Century Model For Achievement!
| |
| When it comes to achievement, I think a lot of people miss the fact that it's an uphill process. You have to climb the mountain first before you reach the peak. It's a journey that almost always involves obstacles. And, it involves doing what it takes to overcome the obstacles. So what's all the confusion? Why are there so many people proclaiming it's just not meant to be? Perhaps they don't understand exactly what uphill means? It's a metaphor for the obstacles and challenges that stand between you and a successful outcome. Listen closely and you'll often hear people who believe such roadblocks are not supposed to happen. I am amazed that in the 21st century there are still people who don't comprehend the fundamental process of achievement. More amazing is how many employers do not know how to hire employees who are ineffective at it. |

IF BAD HIRES SQUEAKED
| |
| March 2009 might seem like a rather odd time to write an article on hiring when so many companies are not. Determining the need to improve upon one's hiring process, and making the changes, is something that can be done right now. Marginal performers presently employed got there somehow. They weren't good hires that suddenly changed after their start date. Poor performance can be traced back to incorrect assessments and the ill-fated decision to hire. Typically companies address poor performance post-hire with employee counseling and discipline stopping short of fixing the real problem - how they got hired. This article will help you improve your hiring effectiveness. |
|
|
How Marginal Employees Ace Interviews
| |
| In today’s highly competitive and turbulent business environment, hiring average employees can spell “failure”. That means, interviewers play a key role in the success, or failure, of their companies. That leads one to ask, "Why how do so many average and poor performers get hired, and so few High Performers?" Come to find out, many interviewers have had little or no formal training on how to hire the best. To make matters worse, the applicant has become interview-savvy. They have learned to maneuver through the interview by accentuating the positive and minimizing the negative, and getting the job offer. It's a very uneven playing field that does NOT favor the interviewer. But that can be turned around. Let's address interviewer training. Read on: |
|
|
RESUME SCREENING - Picking the High Performers!
| |
| A high unemployment rate means lots of resumes and applicants for employers to screen but it doesn't mean it will be easier to pick out the high performers. Just the opposite in fact. Never before in history have job applicants been so hungry and so well-prepared to ace an interview. Information available on the Internet educates job seekers on what interview questions to expect, what type of answers WOW interviewers and what responses turn them off. Pair up these paycheck-hungry job candidates with an interviewer who has done nothing to improve his or her employee selection skills, or the fact that more than eighty percent of all interviewers have had little or no formal training on how to hire the best, and now you have a real formula for disaster as companies begin hiring post-recession. This perfect storm can be averted. |
|
|
TRUTH IN INTERVIEW - Part II
| |
| From PART I: Somewhere, we learned that if we hire an applicant with the skills we need, the results will be an employee who will do a great job. WRONG! Skills simply means the applicant can do the job, it does not mean they will do the job better than anyone else. Making hiring decisions based on skills leaves job performance a mystery until after the hire. Interview-savvy applicants have made it tougher for interviewers to accurately assess motivation, often causing the misjudgment to favor applicants who are NOT High Performers. |
|
|
What the High Performer DOESN’T Know!
| |
| In tough economic times, like we are experiencing right now, many people are still afraid of losing their job. For employers who must cut back, they have to choose who stays and who goes. For some companies, the deciding factor is based on performance - top performers get to stay. Right now could be the perfect time to learn how High Performers are able to produce better results. Interestingly however, it's what the High Performer doesn't know that just might provide the greatest insight. Whether you are a job seeker or an employer, understanding how the high performer is able to achieve better results while others are not is knowledge everyone should have. |
|
|
Carol Quinn's Interviewer Tip #4
| |
| Carol Quinn is the Employer's Advocate. Here is her Interviewer Tip #4 for hiring High Performers. |
|
|
Tenacity is NOT Enough!
| |
| No one has to tell you that high performers succeed more. But, is this a fluke? Are they special people? They obviously are different in some way because not everyone is able to perform at their level. Clearly they don't blend in with the masses on the bell curve. But interestingly enough however, they don't always stand out either. Take an interview for example. Many poor performers are hired by mistake, and who knows how many top performers get turned down. It would be much easier to identify the best if they all had a certain look, or always had the best skills - but they don't. |
|
|
How Do You Know If YOU Respond Effectively To Adversity?
| |
| You've heard the saying, "Change your thinking - change your results". It's true, but do you know what thinking needs to change and from what to what? It's not just about heaving positive thoughts on top of a dismal situation. Nor is it about denial. A bad decision followed by hopeful thinking doesn't change the bad decision into a good one. Understanding how the High Performer is able to achieve a desired outcome is the first step we must take to improve our own productivity. |
|
|
How Do YOU Create The Outcome You Want?
| |
| WARNING: There is information ahead that involves looking at yourself as the cause of your own short-fallen results. Do NOT read any further if you're not opening to the idea we always play a role in creating our own experiences and outcomes!! Instead...Keep doing what you have always done and wish for improved results then let me know how that works out for you. |
|
|
It's Not MY Fault...REALLY!!!
| |
| Let's face it, it can be daunting to realize you are the one who didn't do it right. To make matters worse, it can be even harder to see it. We can think we did things right and still be wrong. We can be told and refuse to believe. In B.C. people were told the earth was round but rejected it for thousands of years. Instead they thought it was flat, stationary and the center of the universe. They were wrong...for hundreds of years. And just like the person who believes his results are not his doing, he is wrong as well. Somewhere along the way, many people became fearful of failing. As a result, some don't try while others refute their participation in causing an outcome. They detach themselves from poor results and believe they weren't responsible while thinking there is no harm being caused...WRONG AGAIN! |
|
|
Incorrectly Assessing A Job Applicant's Motivation
| |
| In today's highly competitive and turbulent business environment, hiring average employees can spell "failure". Companies can not afford mediocrity while their competitors are striving to be the best. Hiring impacts profits in more ways than most companies realize. A Harvard Business School study determined that more than 75% of turnover could be traced back to poor hiring practices. The decision to hire -or not to hire- plays a significant role in turnover. The leading contributor to turnover is often not what happens after the employee is hired, but rather the process leading up to it. And turnover is not always bad if it's a bad hire that's leaving. You have to wonder if you really are hiring the best we can. |
|
|
Are You a Procrastinator
| |
| “Procrastination is like a disease. It develops slowly, often over a long period of time.”
It can be like an anchor around your neck. We have to learn to deal with it if we are to become effective at whatever we choose to do. You see, procrastination is the breeding ground for incompetence. If we don’t learn to conquer it, we will not maximize our effectiveness and become everything we can be. Experts have written that only twenty percent of employees reach the level of effectiveness based on individual potential. I believe that procrastination contributes to that negative statistic. Procrastination can drain your energy, affect your attitude and suppress your creativity.

|
Crisis and the “Black Swan”
| |
| Black Swans are important events, either good or bad, that are highly improbable but happen nonetheless. Using the term Black Swan is a metaphor for an event that just is weird or unexplainable before hand using logic. None the less, Black Swans are explainable after the fact. Most are rare events that have extreme impact on the business. (Taleb, Nassim Nicholas. The Black Swan. New York: Random House, 2007.) |

Economic Turbulence – A Window of Opportunity
| |
| The state of the economy is a fact. How you feel about that fact and what it means to you personally is a belief. Your beliefs have a major impact on your employee’s attitude. Beliefs that drive your sales behaviors are the keys to becoming successful in a down economy. If you believe that this economic crisis can provide you with opportunities than your attitude will drive the behavior of your employees. |

Hiring is not Easy ---- Interviewing Techniques to Improve Your Success
| |
| Hiring the right individual, with the right skill set, that has the right attitude and the right personality to fit in can be one of the most challenging endeavors any manager will ever face. Leveraging your chance of success by using the team approach, profile testing and seriously checking references helps. But, if you have several qualified candidates it's still like flipping a coin. You just can't be positive about your choice until you see the individual in action. Sometimes it takes months, even years to see the real person you hired whether it's really good or really bad. Finding the really bad ones months after you have hired them can be extremely expensive.
Face it. What you are trying to accomplish in the selection process is to predict the way an individual will behave in the future in your environment. |

Success Isn’t a Mystery in any Economy
| |
| My first piece of advice on success today for anyone willing to listen is simply to turn off the news. Don’t listen to CNN. Turn off the Fox News network, NBC, CNBC and all the other networks that are sensationalizing everything that is happening in our economy on a minute to minute basis. I have made a conscious decision not to listen because a high percentage of what you see on television today is pure garbage designed simply to improve ratings. I refuse to listen to a constant diet of negativity. In fact, I refuse to even associate with negative people. I suggest that each and every one of us has an obligation to protect our attitude. |
|
|
The Sky Isn’t Falling
| |
| Some of you may be taking the attitude that now is the time to hunker down, cut costs and go into a cautious no risk taking mode while putting duct tape on your wallets and purses. Although I believe caution is prudent and contingency planning may be essential I’d like to stress that you shouldn’t make blind assumptions and react too quickly without doing a complete analysis of your independent customer base and markets. |

Wounded Wolves --- The Journey Forward
| |
| This is a story about finding your way. It's dedicated to any and all people that may have found themselves lost, confused, powerless, in a dead end career, going nowhere and those who may have lost sight of what they really want from life. It's a story about "Wounded Wolves" and making the journey forward. Forward to success, self esteem and pride. Maybe a few of you can relate to this as it's happening now. Or, maybe you were wounded once and remember the journey you had to make to create happiness and success in your life. Being wounded can be a result of many things - a personal crisis, family life, a bad marriage, the way you were raised, poor life decisions, limited exposure to education and learning, and sometimes just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. |

| There are an infinite number of resources directed toward job seekers. These sources offer insight into the interview process in order to help applicants ace interviews. Tough Times Need Laser Focus
| |
| The word on the street is that we are in the middle of a tough economy. Some even say that we are involved in a recession and that sales are tougher to come by now than they have been in many years. With fuel prices soaring, commodity pricing all over the board, the financial markets in upheaval, and the real estate markets still reeling, many companies, in a lot of different industries, are trying to recover from slumping sales. |
|
|
Refuse to Lose!
| |
| When times get a little tough in selling, we often hear of some people (myself included) stating that they “refuse to participate in a recession.” As a matter of fact, this has been said so often that it is becoming a bit cliché. However, we do need to REFUSE some of the things that hold us back during tougher economic times. We do need to REFUSE to suffer mediocrity from ourselves or our people. We do need to REFUSE to drop our prices but instead raise the bar on our value. We need to REFUSE to let our customers get a better experience buying from a competitor. |

Managing Perpetual Workplace Changes
| |
| It doesn't matter whether you are an old timer or an amateur in what you do. All that matters in our jungle is to apply the lion-gazelle concept of survival. "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion, or it will die. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle; when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."

Be a Positive Outlier and Change Your World
| |
|
When you think of it, George Washington was an outlier and so were characters such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Galileo, Mother Teresa, Joan of Arc and Nelson Mandela.
Are you a positive outlier? When an outlier is removed from a set of data, its influence is gone. In your sphere of life or work, can your absence be noticeable? Would people wish you were still available to affect their work or life in a positive way? You don't need talent to be an outlier. You need vision of the future you want, decisions to get you started on a path toward your vision and actions that bring you results. |

| Neither Moore nor Noyce were natural-born businessmen. They were scientists, people who felt more comfortable inside the walls of a laboratory than within the four walls of an office boardroom. They had spent the majority of their youth conducting science experiments rather than doing sales, playing with molecules and electrons instead of learning about contracts and markets. However, once the two decided to branch off on their own and create Intel, they knew that their success would rest upon how well they could learn by trial and error. |
|
|
Lesson #5: Do What You Do Better than Anyone Else
| |
| “It’s important to remember one thing that is essential for any entrepreneurial organization,” says Moore. “Do what you do well. Look at other things as incremental opportunities, but don’t change the basis of what you do well.” Moore and Noyce might have had many failed products over the years at Intel – arguably more than most successful companies – but they never strayed from their original idea as to what they wanted their company to be about. Indeed, it was by focusing on a single vision and doing that well that they increased their circle of influence and climbed to the top of the industry. |
|
|
Inside Intel: Success Factors of a Company that Inspired an Industry
| |
| Today, Intel is ranked 49th on Fortune 500’s list of the top revenue grossing companies. Noyce and Moore may no longer be in charge of the daily running of the business they first founded in 1968; however, their impact on not only the company, but also the entire industry can still be felt. The maker of motherboard chipsets, network cards, flash memory drives, graphic chips, embedded processors and more, Intel is an innovator and a leader in the world of electronics and computing. How did two scientists who knew nothing about business become two of the most successful examples of entrepreneurship in history? |

Lesson #2: Winning Does Not Matter When You Love The Game
| |
| “When you find the niche you love, that becomes your passion,” says Joyce. “For me it was Tim Hortons. It was my world.” |
|
|
Lesson #5: Learn The Fundamentals of Franchising
| |
| Joyce was Tim Hortons’ original franchisee, but it would not be for long. After working under Horton for a few short weeks, Joyce immediately realized that he was on his own. “It was clear that he didn’t know the business all that well and couldn’t help me with any of the problems we were having,” says Joyce. “Tim had no expertise whatsoever, so the burden fell squarely on me.” As a franchisee who had little support from Horton, Joyce began to understand exactly what it would take to run a successful franchise. And, that is exactly what he set out to do after Horton’s death. |
|
|
Lesson #5: You Are Never Too Small To Get Started
| |
| Some entrepreneurs think that they need to wait until they get that one angel investor to come along for them to be able to start up their business. Others believe that until they get an office of their own, or perhaps even some part-time assistance, that they will never be able to get their business off the ground. But, if there is one important lesson to take away from Sanders’ experience, it is to get real and get started already. |

Lesson #3: “No person can get very far in life working 40 hours a week.”
| |
| Growing up in an impoverished childhood, Marriott knew all too well that success began with determination. From traveling across the U.S. to help support his father’s sheepherding business, to working every summer to pay for his university tuition, Marriott grew up with a determined attitude. Even his professors knew that Marriott was someone to watch for, after he turned his small, one-man operation selling woollen items to lumberjacks into an operation of 45 college students who sold products in seven different states. |
|
|
Lesson #2: “Getting out of the way is really important”
| |
| One of the reasons why Craigslist has become such a success story is because Newmark has understood the importance of getting out of the way where and when it mattered. From content to overall management of the site, he knew that it was not going to be him who always had the best answers. And, where it counted, he was willing to step back and hand over the reigns. |

The Best News
| |
| There are many different attitudes. Roberto de Vincenzo, a golfer from Argentina, beautifully displayed one of the best ones many years ago when he won the Masters Golf Tournament but was denied the coveted green jacket. I say he won it because he had the lowest score at the end of four days. But his playing partner who kept the score had inadvertently written that he had made a five on one of the holes when in reality he had made a four. De Vincenzo signed the card, and when an incorrect card is signed, the player is disqualified. He had not cheated, but the rules stood. What was his reaction when he learned he was disqualified? Did he blame his playing partner? No, he said he made a stupid mistake. He accepted full responsibility himself. Now what kind of man is he?

The definition of branding
| |
| One of my readers pointed out that they really appreciated the definition of marketing that I use throughout Duct Tape Marketing. Marketing is getting someone who has a need to know, like and trust you. Most small business folks, exposed only to more academic definitions, really seem to appreciate the truthfulness of that characterization.
This same reader (Eddy) also asked then for my definition of branding (as it might relate to marketing)

Find a Need and Fill It

| When I was in the seventh grade I was on the boxing team and later I boxed while in the Navy. I don't want to sound boastful, but it's a matter of record that the worst I ever finished was second. I finally quit boxing because of my hands - the referee kept stepping on them! As a boxer, the coach would always instruct us in the early part of the fight to feel our opponent out, probe and discover his weakness, and then exploit that weakness. The same basic procedure is followed in all athletic endeavors. |

Staying on Top
| |
| One way I stay on top of things is to realize there’s a flip side to everything. It keeps me circumspect in both good and bad times. This produces a learning curve, which is a smart way to look at problems or the curveballs that come your way. There are highs and lows in everyone’s life. Whether you’ve reached your goals or not, staying on top of things requires momentum on a daily basis.

My 3 Personal Success Strategies That Never Fail

What if Your Boss is a Jerk
| |
| So, if your boss is a jerk, so what. He can not control your attitude. Keep things in perspective. Life is too short to let someone else determine your level of happiness. When you get up in the morning, look in the mirror. Don't scream, put some clothes on first and then tell yourself that you are the best at what you do. Tell yourself you are a success and you will help someone else become a success.
Now, Go to work and no matter what happens during the day keep that upbeat attitude and search for opportunities to make a difference. Remember what Zig Zigler said. "You can get everything you want in life by helping someone else get what they want." That includes your boss. Focus on positive thoughts, success thoughts. You are what you think and if you think the day will be a great day, chances are in your favor that it will be.

Making Conversation
| |
| Years ago when I was just starting my career in sales at AT&T, another new account executive in my group found it absolutely amazing that I had gone to lunch with a customer. She said to me, “What did you talk about? Wasn’t there a lot of dead air space?” A similar question about finding topics to talk about with clients came up recently at a program that I attended on Rainmaking for Women Lawyers presented by the Women’s Bar Association. |

Making Active Choices – The Key to Success
| |
| “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Benjamin Franklin said this originally. Sometimes we are aware that the results are not what we want but are unaware that we are stuck in a pattern of unchanging behavior. The first step to making a change is to first become aware of what we are doing. |

How to get the world to respond to you – A Facebook Lesson
| |
| Let me be frank with you. I’ve never liked facebook as much as I’ve hoped to. Even though it’s seems so much fun, I never got to be comfortable with it. Honestly, I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t suit me. But that’s until recently. Today I know exactly why I couldn’t sync with facebook, and I am taking corrective actions to make things right. So what was it about facebook and me that didn’t gel? It was this - I felt I am posting valuable content, but I was not getting anybody to respond to it. Very few, if at all, used to comment or like my content, and these were from friends that I am already acquainted with. But when I used to see other people getting a ton of comments, I used to unconsciously feel envious and used to ask myself as to what’s got so many people participating in that topic? Yes, I did get the answer; and from... |

Self Esteem + Self Confidence + Self Respect = Self Worth.

Eradicate Procrastination - Be Action Oriented
| |
| Eradicate procrastination, before it destroys you. You get more out of your day with an action-oriented, do-it-now attitude. When you complete the unpleasant or hard jobs first and act on the big tasks little bits at a time, you trim anxiety and stress while gaining self-respect and self-confidence. After you exert this type of discipline long enough, you will establish a routine and create a new habit. Behavioral studies suggest that if you do something every day for 21 days, it becomes a habit. Be action oriented for the next 30 days and you will master procrastination. |

Man always rises to meet up to his expectations
| |
| When I took over the management of a chain of retail stores in the auto-service industry, one of the biggest challenges that I faced was the incompetency of the staff. Two points stood out very strongly: a) Whoever I asked, had a bad opinion about the non-performers and b) The so-called non-performers were actually not producing results. “Obviously!” you might think. How can you expect non-performers to produce results? Well, that’s what I thought too, at least initially. |

A Car Sales Story with a difference
| |
| Is there such as thing as a ‘good’ car sales story?
My husband and I recently bought two new cars over the Christmas break. We initially went in to buy one car. It wasn’t a Christmas splurge if that’s what you’re thinking – nor was anything it like the recent press on luxury cars and their owners. We wanted to go smaller and greener for all sorts of reasons I am sure you can image and one of our cars was at the end of its lease. Having done our research, the ‘make’ of our last four cars wasn’t doing enough, in our opinion, to be ‘greener’ so we decided to look elsewhere and try something different instead. |

The world is littered with stories of people who were passed over and ignored by judgmental, blinkered sales people only to take their business somewhere else where they were treated with respect and were able to buy what they wanted despite how they may have appeared to others. |

Think Rich - Don't Spend Money As If You Are Rich
| |
| Do you need to start changing the way you think about spending money? When you want something, you have to learn to ask 'how will I pay for this' - not 'which card has enough room on it for this'. It is a hard habit to break. Our brains are wired how we wired them - and if it's wired to use credit cards as an extension of your wealth, then it may take months to break the habit and dismiss the impulse to shop for something you cannot afford. Just stop, take a breath, and ask yourself 'How am I going to pay for this'. If it's not from passive income or portfolio income, it might be time to acquire some and then pay for the item. Start thinking like a rich person - not spending like you were a rich person. |

How to Overcome Resistance in Your Home Based Business

One thing I can attribute to my productivity is the attitude I took the very first day of my being self employed – I gave my home based business the same respect I had given my previous jobs. Here’s what I did, and continue to do. |

Why hiring or keeping the 600lb sales gorilla is a mistake

| For many years the legend of the 600lb sales gorilla or Alpha sales superstar has been strutting the hallways and boardrooms of businesses. Often revered for achieving top of the league ladder sales results, yet feared by many for their aggressive, manipulative, ego centric, demanding, intimidating antics, countless CEO’s and sales managers have allowed these sales prima donnas to remain in their sales teams but at what cost to their sales team and their business? |

Do you remember when you were learning the latest dance steps as a teenager? You would get together with your friends and practice the latest steps. Remember the swaying of the hips, the popping of the fingers, clapping your hands, the fancy foot movements, singing along with the music and having so much fun and laughter making missteps. Oh, I intended to say mistakes and actually enjoying the mistakes because you knew they were a necessary process to learning the dance. |

This mistake is often due to one dangerous assumption...

Profitable Online Business Ideas; Success from Failure
| |
| The modern age that we live in is a wonderful thing. We have a lifestyle that even two generations ago they could not have imagined. Personally I really enjoy the lifestyle that we can live in this modern time. But there are some down sides to it. I’ve heard many people call it, “the microwave society.” Many people want it all now. It seems few people are willing to put in the time and effort to achieve the dreams and goals that they have set for themselves. I believe the most damaging effect that our modern time has had on some people is the attitude of just giving up to easily. |

Management actions that speak louder than words
| |
| Do as I say, not as I do. This doesn't seem to work in parenting and it doesn't work in business either. Communication, despite knowing it to be a problem, continues to be a challenge in most organizations. Typical results-driven managers mistakenly feel that once they have said something once, everyone should have heard and understood the message and be willing to implement immediately. In the absence of plentiful and repeated communication, most messages in an organization are communicated non-verbally through the actions observed. In fact these non-verbal messages define the organization's culture over time. Here we identify four management actions that transmit plenty of information to the organization about what is valued and not valued. |

| In the previous two articles we talked about keys to success on a personal level. Ideas we can adopt internally to lead us to success, such as the need to change, the need to take action. Both are critical attitudes without which we will never succeed. If we are unwilling to change the things we are doing wrong, how do we expect to succeed? If we never take action, how do we expect to ever succeed? The next attitude I would like to discuss is the attitude of believing in yourself. YOUR Attitude is YOUR Key to Success
| |
| How many of you out there feel like survivors? Have you experienced and survived a divorce, job change or life-threatening illness? I, too, am a survivor! And I used to be so proud of that word that I almost wore it as a "badge of courage" pinned on my chest. I had lived in a tent for 18 months with four children and physically built my own home-and I survived! I built that home for $28,000; and 2 years later it appraised at $98,000. And I lost it in an ugly divorce, walking away with nothing but my greatest assets, my four children; and I survived!
I ended up having to work three jobs. Got up in the morning and repaired bathtubs on construction sites (I'm a plumber's daughter; sold real estate in the afternoon; got home to greet the kids from school, start dinner, and then I was off doing free talks at Rotary and Kiwanis meetings tryin |

I Know How to Do This!
| |
| I thought I had pre-paved a happy-go-lucky attitude towards being a mother. I had intended to let my son, Lucky, follow his own path and my job was to get out of the way. Ahem! Well, my little controller side came out in full force in ways I had not expected.
I started out by trusting that Lucky would find his own sleeping pattern. That didn't work. So, when he was four months old I swung to the opposite side of the issue. My child would forever more be on a sleeping schedule. This potentially could've worked if I were more relaxed about it. But I wasn't. I was in huge conflict with my mate, Steve, about my schedule and method of putting Lucky to bed. |

Celebrate Every Achievement
| |
| In her book My Stroke of Insight, the author and Harvard brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor documents her remarkable story. At the age of 37 years old, she suffered a stroke and then spent the next eight years making a full recovery. This involved learning to do the basics such as sit up in bed alone again, walk, talk, feed herself, drive, recall her memories, etc. The book is inspirational and also has some amazing pearls of wisdom. One of these pearls is how important it was for her to celebrate EVERY achievement no matter what the size. I found this attitude a wonderful one and would love all adults with ADHD to adopt too. She didn't say, "Oh, you can sit up on your own now, big deal, you could do that when you were one years old." That would have been discouraging after all her mental and physical effort it had taken. It would have als |

Profitable Online Business Ideas and the Power of Duplication Part 2
| |
| In part one of this topic we discussed how involving others in your online, in-home business duplicates your efforts. We saw that working a job limits a person to just their own efforts. We will only be paid so much of a wage. We can only work so many hours. We are simply limited to what we can earn working a job. But involving other people in our business and teaching them to involve others in their business, literally duplicates our efforts. But there is another aspect to this topic I would like to discuss. |

Harvesting For the Long Haul | Sales, Service 101

It is in doing all these things that we also provide a basic human need to interact; to know others and to be known. Whatever it is you are selling, understand some basic principles. |

Healthy Salespeople - Healthy Sales Results
| |
| As I have stated previously, sales is a demanding profession. Top performers know that to sustain a high level of performance, they need to keep fit and well - both physically and psychologically. They are self disciplined, self managed and take good care of themselves. You only have to look at them and know they are healthy. Their skin is clear, they have a vitality about them that is fresh, their attitude is positive and they are keen to learn.
What sort of sales culture do you encourage? Is it one of health and wellbeing or a boozy, extreme living on the edge culture? |

A Time To Reflect

| I don't know about you, but I often find myself reflecting on a whole range of things in my life including my professional sales career and wondering at all the things I have learned over the years.

There are so many aspects to selling that the more I look into selling the more I find to reflect upon. So it was with some amusement that I found myself reflecting on reflecting itself and how valuable it is to our continued development and overall healthy functioning in this ever-changing world. |

Work From Home Business Means Giving Up Your Day Job Mentality
| |
| Work from home business and a day job mentality are opposites that do not attract. A job mentality is getting up in the morning and going out to put in an 8 and one half hour work day. When the work day is done you come home to relax, put your feet up and forget about the workplace until the next day when you start all over again. The tasks you are expected to carry out are clearly identified when you accept the job. All of that changes when you work for yourself. Dreaming of a home based business often includes a scene where you are sitting in an easy chair sipping coffee or your favorite beverage with the phone at your side. If that phone is not ringing off the hook then you are dreaming about a vacation not a home based business business. You must understand that owning a work from home business means giving up your day job mentality. |
