New Research and a Dirty Truth: Read This Before Chasing the Dollar
“You’re nobody here at $10 million,” said Gary Kremen, the 43-year old founder of Match.com, of Silicon Valley.

I'll Be Happy When...
We seem to spend a lot of time predicting what will make us happy (we call it daydreaming) and what will make us unhappy (we call it worrying). What we're really doing is wanting. We "know" what we want and don't want, and what will make us happy and not happy.

Catching Flies with Chopsticks
One of the best scenes in martial arts cinema features the hero, Mr. Miyagi, practicing with chopsticks to catch a house fly. Of course, he’s never actually caught one, but he keep trying! (If you think Daniel is the hero of this movie, don’t read any further!)

Reorganize your life
I recently read about this study conducted by Nobel Prize recipient Daniel Kahneman. He believed we would all feel a lot better if we spent our time more wisely. He conducted a diary study with 909 women in Austin, Texas. He asked them to record all the activities they did during the day and then rate how happy they were while doing them. He then had them narrow the list to their least favorite activities. Unfortunately those activities accounted for nearly half of the participants' waking hours. Not surprisingly his advice was fairly simple. He said "Reorganize your life to be in situations that you'd rather continue than stop."

Changing Your Ideas about Employee Motivation
Most managers believe that the best way to motivate employees is with external rewards-money, perks, and other dangling carrots to get people enthusiastic about their job. But according to Daniel Pink in his new book “Drive: The Surprising Truth about What Motivates US” motivation is created internally not externally and depends on peoples ability to make decisions about their own lives, to learn and create new things, and to better themselves.

Storytelling for High Concept and High Touch
After hearing Daniel Pink speak about his book A Whole New Mind: Moving from the Information Age to the Conceptual Age for the fourth time, I finally read it cover to cover (less than a day). I finally got what he was talking about when he said jobs that are high touch are here to stay. That is, jobs that build relationships between business and client whether it's B2B or B2C.

Monthly Dinner With My Brother
Last night I had dinner with my brother Daniel, one of the partners at Slice of Lime, a Boulder-based web design and development firm. He and I were at TechStars at the end of the day where I gave a talk on “How To Be A CEO.” Afterwards, we had a nice dinner together at The Cheesecake Factory (his choice – I don’t think I’d been there in a decade – and it was surprisingly good), a great talk, and dynamite brother hang out time.

Lessons from \'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo\'
The best-selling book "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and its sequels were made into films in Sweden in 2009. Now, the U.S. movie version of the first book, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, opens in theaters this December.

Leadership’s Link to Emotional Intelligence
Ever wonder why some of the most brilliant, well-educated people aren’t promoted, while those with fewer obvious skills climb the professional ladder? Chalk it up to emotional intelligence (EI), a term first coined in 1995 by psychologist Daniel Goleman in his New York Times bestseller Emotional Intelligence.
