Lesson #2: Grab a Partner and Go
| |
| Orfalea recalls the way in which he first came up with his idea for Kinko’s: “It was an easy business…My dad made women’s clothing, and he had all this inventory to worry about. So I thought, this inventory thing is bad news. I don’t want anything to do with it. With a Xerox machine, I can dial a button and what comes out the end I can sell. It’s actually a simple, dumb business really.” |

5 Keys to Abundance
| |
| Dear Jane,
I am sick of running out of money before the end of the month. Other people seem to know something I don’t about creating abundance. What’s the secret?
I heard a shocking statistic on Oprah once: Over 70% of people who experience a financial windfall from such strokes of luck as winning the lottery or inheriting a large sum of money tend to be back to where they were financially within just a few short years.
Most of us think this would never happen to us. Our thoughts probably run along the lines of, “If I won a million, two million, ten million dollars [take your pick], it would change my life forever. All my worries would be gone. I’d be happy.”
How can it be that what seems like an inevitable happy ending just doesn’t turn out to be true for such a large majority of people? |

Example of a Business Plan
| |
| An example of a business plan would probably take up more room than I get on this website- unless I did a whole series. (That is something I just might think about.) But there are a lot of templates and you can find an example of a business plan that will most likely fit your business needs on the internet with a few key strokes on a search engine. But is it really that easy? I'll answer that question with a question; what ever is?
A success example of a business plan, no matter how specialized will consist of the following:

When Negotiating be Sure to Wet Down Before Diving In
| |
| Negotiating is the ultimate challenge for any leader and being good at it is essential for success. A lesson can be learned from successful competitive swimmers. They always "wet down" by splashing water from the pool onto themselves before a race in order to acclimate themselves to the specific venue. This avoids the shock syndrome when they dive in. They are already expert at their racing strokes, breathing, pacing and flip turns. Even so they always "wet down" first, if they want every competitive advantage. This article gives you some insights on the best way to "wet down" before a negotiation. |

You Can't Brown Nose Your Way to Success
| |
| As a recent USA Today article points out, relationship building with your boss can be a bit tricky. While you want to be positive and build a strong relationship, you don't want to come across as someone who is too aggressive in managing upward -- or what the article called "brown nosing." On the other hand, you can't be so afraid of being seen by your boss and coworkers as a brown noser that you never give your boss or other leaders in your company, any positive feedback. The best way to do this is to be authentic. Give your boss some strokes when he or she does something that you really appreciate, or think was a truly great idea. Don't give him or strokes just for the sake of making him or her like you better. |
