Declare Your Independence
| |
| Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson's most enduring monument. Here, in exalted and unforgettable phrases, Jefferson expressed the convictions in the minds and hearts of the American people. |

7.0 Policy/programme coordination and leadership: Support for Growth-oriented Women Entrepreneurs in Tanzania, 2005
| |
| At the time of the field visit to Tanzania (November 2003), there was no formal

8.0 Promotion of women’s entrepreneurship: Support for Growth-oriented Women Entrepreneurs in Tanzania, 2005
| |
| According to key informants from the University of Dar es Salaam,
entrepreneurship is only now becoming considered a legitimate and valued activity in
Tanzania. There is a huge need to increase this and to create more awareness of the
important role that owners of micro and small enterprises play in the economy. A much
higher value has to be attached to opportunities in the SME sector and to the role of
entrepreneurs so as to make it an acceptable and preferred option for college and
university graduates, the next generation of entrepreneurs. |

Enhanced Google Maps for East Africa
| |
| On tuesday I had the rare opportunity courtesy of Chris Kiagiri, Technical Lead at Google Kenya to have a sneak peek at the upcoming enhanced google mpas for east africa and let me say it was truly awesome. The amount of detail in this new version is quite amazing, a quick look at the nairobi map goes as far down as streets, buildings (building name and icon) and even adds information to indicate if the street is one way or two way. The enhanced maps currently cover major cities and towns in East Africa including Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Dar es Salaam. |

Sales - A test of character
| |
| I can honestly say I did not enjoy the early years of my sales career. I initially found it hard, relentless and sometimes really distressing. I was asked to do things I didn't always understand that significance of. I often felt overly scrutinised by the constant monitoring of activity and performance by my managers. I worked in tough markets in tough times and sometimes wondered if it was worth it. I felt under pressure and sometimes wished I didn't have to sell at all, however I came to realise that this tough introduction to selling was what I really needed to prepare me for the future. In the words of Robert Louis Stevenson "Everyone lives by selling something'. |

I interviewed him about his views on thought leadership. It is long but only because he has some great insights to share and has been abundant with his advice in this regard. This is what he had to say:
