A PERSONAL STORY Like Michael Jordan, I have achieved everything important in my life and work without any goal-setting. I never wrote down that I would be a professional speaker or author of a book. My background would suggest that what I have accomplished in life is impossible. I was raised on the Navajo Indian reservation. I was the only Caucasian boy in my high school senior class, and most of my peers didn't like me because of the color of my skin-and because of what the bilagonas (white men) did to their ancestors. A Matter of Perspective
Sometimes a new perspective can hit you on the head a la “I could’ve had a V-8!” For me, it happened recently when I had the good fortune of working with a intern from my children’s school. The reason I want to talk about why prospecting is like baseball is because I recently saw a quote by Mickey Mantle that struck home: "During my 18 years in baseball, I came to bat almost 9,000 times. I struck out over 1,700 times and walked over 1,800 times. That means I played seven years in the major leagues without even hitting a baseball."

If you thought - they are famous, you would be right, but not for how they have excelled in their daily life and occupation. Find the Right Game
We've all been taught that there are two kinds of people in the world-there are the winners, and there are the losers. But, like any other belief that we all hold dear, it's not quite that simple. The reality is that everyone potentially is a winner. They are simply competing in the wrong game. The skill level and passion needed to become a champion will not transfer from game to game. When the sports history of the 20th Century was written, there was much debate among sports writers as to who was the century's greatest athlete. Virtually all agreed that if he was not the best, Michael Jordan was certainly among the top two or three athletes of the last 100 years.

Over the last decade, I have been fortunate and privileged to develop an ongoing friendship with Steve Forbes. We first worked together in 1999 when he was producing a book entitled Great American Success Stories. After that, I began visiting Mr. Forbes in his office on each of my trips to New York City.
