9.0 Conclusions: Entrepreneurship and Small Business Enterprise Growth in Uganda
As the world turns global, many countries are emerging out of the abject poverty into wealth. South Korea and Singapore are classical examples. In the 1960's, South Korea's per capital GDP was similar to that of Uganda. South Korea is now among the developed countries. Uganda is still characterised by massive poverty. The only way to transform Uganda and many African countries is to fuel growth through business development. Given the global competition, Africa may not be able to position herself competitively as a world class competition but must foster the growth of businesses through micro and small enterprises. Figure 4.3 gives the situation at the subregional level and it compares five subregions defined around some of the RECs. In 1980, the most diversified subregions were COMESA and ECOWAS. The least diversified was CEMAC with SADC and North Africa in between. By 2002, the diversification gains at the subregional level had changed, with the most significant gains made by SADC, which is now the most diversified subregion on the continent. Teleservices Business Process Outsourcing: Want to Go North or South?
Business process outsourcing of teleservices-lead generation, lead qualification and lead nurturing-generally goes in one of two directions: north or south. North is good. A best-practice teleservices firm closes the gap between marketing and sales to create sales-ready opportunities needed to drive revenue. South is not so good. Unfortunately, many companies have had negative experiences with teleservices firms that deliver so-called leads when they lack agreed-upon qualifying criteria. I would like to take this opportunity to differentiate between the two and to affirm the value of teleservices outsourcing when executed correctly.
