Sue Grafton is a Success Because She Loves What She Does
Successful people have a clearly defined purpose for their life. Sue Grafton's purpose is writing mystery stories that entertain large numbers of people. My purpose is helping others succeed. My friend's purpose was creating better surgical equipment. What is your purpose? It should be something you love. If you don't love it, you'll get burned out and see your work as a grind. If you love what you do, you see your work as a gift and something to which you look forward every day. As we approach the end of 2009, spend some time thinking about what you truly love doing. Then, and more important, think about how you can make doing what you love your life's work.

Are you ready for a Life Coach?
The answer is YES! The real challenge is most people do not have a strong enough self image to hire a coach. They simply hide behind the ”I can’t afford it” or the ”When I get successful, I'll hire a coach.”

Can you really help your employees get promoted?
Why is it most employees don’t want to get promoted? I could never figure that out. Sure they want and even need more money but they always have an excuse on why they are not able to grow. You may even over extend at times and give them free seminar tickets or golden opportunities, only to hear them come up with great excuses why they can’t make it. I recently asked leadership legend John Maxwell what things he was thinking on currently and he said something amazing.

As the #1 Online Life Coach I have some ultra successful high end clients and one of the most popular questions is: “Evan, why is it so hard? “ My answer is why is it so hard for them to understand that the struggle is what brings out the greatness. The struggle in the gym is what makes the champion athlete, the struggle in the cocoon is what properly develops the butterfly’s wings, the struggle in refining Gold and Diamonds is what makes these stones so precious.

Unleash the entrepreneur within!
It's not for everyone! As the #1 Online Life Coach this has been a huge breakthrough for many people when they realize that they simply are not cut out to be an entrepreneur, and it's ok. J. Paul Getty in his book How to be Rich talked about the three types of men/employees. The first is just a job mentality type, this person is also known as a Mr. Steady. They feel more comfortable being in a system that someone else creates, they just want to do their job and leave at 5pm. Most of these types take pride in their job and if they need to work some overtime they will, however it will be the first thing they complain about. Regardless they will do their job and show up every day and expect to get paid every two weeks regardless of what is going on in the company.

What is Online Life Coaching?
In the same vein of online higher education we have online Life Coaching. Because of technology top Life Coaches can now reach large numbers of people without giving up their time. This allows for greatly reduced prices which now gives the struggling executive who wants to get promoted access to the same caliber of coaching his CEO is getting.

When to say no to a deal. If you want grow say no!
Wait, before you say, "I did this really small job and it lead to a bigger one, so I never turn down a deal." If you want to think that way, it's OK, but if you want to get to the next level, you need to think differently. I have a very successful client in Hollywood that I work with, he hired me to help him make the jump to the elite level of 8 figure deals. I told him the same thing I'm telling you, say, "No to 80%." He was so challenged by this until I explained to him that the deals he was getting now were the ones turned down by the elite level 8 figure guys. If you want 8 figure deals you have think like an 8 figure guy and NOT take 6 figure deals.

Because of this you surrendered your rights of personal privacy. Do I agree with you that you should have some privacy? Yes! But that doesn’t matter, the world does not work like that anymore. You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. Your squeaky clean image is what repelled the tabloids for the last 10 years. They don’t want to report on a functional family and the moment you chose to be dysfunctional, you sent them a personal invitation to turn your life upside down.

Successful People Face Their Fears and Act
Fear is the enemy of self confidence. Self confident people face their fears and act. Procrastination is the manifestation of fear. When you find yourself procrastinating, figure out what scares you about the situation. Is it fear of failure? Is it fear of success? Is it fear of rejection? Is it fear of being embarrassed? Is it fear of the unknown? Once you've figured out why you are afraid, do three things; admit your fear to yourself, embrace your fear, and take action. Action is the antidote to fear. In most cases, you'll choose wisely and your fears won't be realized. In the cases when you choose poorly, you'll find that failure isn't as catastrophic as you imagined. Articulate Your Success Through A Compelling Vision
Evolution is part of nature. Nothing stays the same, yet rather than take advantage of the potential within, the majority of people fight to keep situations/relationships the same regardless of dissatisfaction. More than likely they are subconsciously using familiar habits and strategies to transform expecting new results. It’s ludicrous to expect different results using the same patterns! These actions are more of survival rather than proactive self-leadership in generating opportunities.

Who Really Achieves Success in Sales?
Whether you have been in sales a short time or for years, achieve a level of success that is rooted in integrity...The kind of success that cannot be matched.

Success Comes From Living Your Purpose
To develop your personal clarity or purpose you need to do three things. First, define what success means to you. Second, create a vivid mental image of you as a success. Third, clarify your personal values. Ask yourself a simple question almost every day. "Did the things I did today support my life’s purpose?" If you answer, "yes," consider it a successful day. If you answer "no," think about what you can do the next day to get back to living your purpose. Have a clear and vivid mental image of what success means to you. Live your life’s purpose every day. If you haven’t clarified your purpose in life, this is a good time to start. Once you get clear on your purpose, live it every day in all your actions.

Fear, Courage and Success
Fear can -- and will -- paralyze you. It can keep you from reaching the career and life success you want and deserve. If you develop the habit of courage, you can beat fear. Repetition is the best way to develop the habit of being courageous. The more you are willing to face your fears -- small and large -- and act, the quicker courage will become one of the guiding habits in your life.

Action, Action and More Action Builds Self Confidence and Creates Success
Successful people are self confident. Self confident people take action. They don't let their fears, or their perfectionism trap them into procrastinating. If you want to succeed you need to be self confident. If you want to become self confident you need to face your fears -- and any other impediment to your success -- and act.

Audience Analysis and Presentation Success
Successful people are dynamic communicators. Dynamic communicators are great presenters. If you want to become a great presenter, you need to spend time analyzing the audience for your talks. If you do this, you'll be able to create and deliver solid presentations that will meet the needs of your audiences, and in the process, gain a reputation as a great speaker and dynamic communicator.

High Goals, Outstanding Performance and Success
Successful people are outstanding performers. Outstanding performers are goal oriented. They set high goals, and do whatever it takes to achieve them. Then they set higher goals and do what they must to achieve them. They do this day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. If you want to become an outstanding performer, you need to constantly challenge yourself by setting high goals. Aim high, and you'll be surprised at what you can accomplish.

Addiction to Praise Hampers Conversation Success
Successful people are dynamic communicators. Dynamic communicators are excellent conversationalists. The essence of good conversation is a willingness to listen to, and learn from, others. People who are addicted to praise, those whose "narcissistic supply" is in short supply, are seldom good conversationalists. In seeking the approval of others, they speak only of themselves and their lives. They seldom take the time to engage other people in conversation and listen to what they have to say. If you want to become a good conversation, get interested in other people. Learn about them and their lives. They'll reciprocate and give you the chance to talk about you and your life.

Surround Yourself with Positive People for Success
Self-confidence is an important key to personal and professional success. The Tour De France, Relationships and Success

Success Lessons from Serena’s Meltdown
As you go through life you will encounter many problems and setbacks. You need to react positively to the negative stuff and move forward toward your goals. Serena Williams lost in the semi finals to Kim Clijsters, who went on to win the championship. Serena not only lost, she lost in a bizarre manner that could have been avoided had she chosen to react positively to an unfair setback she encountered during the match. To use a term we seem to hear a lot these days, there is a “teachable moment” here. Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their lives and careers. Choosing to react positively to people and events is a good way to take responsibility for yourself.

Success and Your Personal Mission and Vision
Successful people define a clarity of purpose and direction for their lives and careers. Your clarity of purpose and direction should include both a personal mission (your purpose) and a personal vision (your direction). Your mission is your reason for living, why you are on this earth. Think before you hit that send button.

Mentors are positive people because they are willing to give of themselves to help others succeed. When you’re looking for a mentor, look for someone who is highly skilled, is a lifelong learner, is respected by his or her colleagues, has a positive outlook on life and is willing to provide you with direct, constructive feedback. When you find the right mentor you won’t have to go it alone on the road to career and life success.

Self Confidence
There are a few common sense points associated with self confidence. Believe in yourself. Your career success will be built on your self confidence. First, be optimistic. As the Optimist Creed says, "Be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble." Second, take action. Face your fears and deal with them. Live your life in the career success arena, so you will know the "triumph of achievement." Third, find the positive people around you. Hold on to them. Identify the negative people around you. Jettison them. Find a career success mentor and learn everything you can from him or her.

Career Success and Problem Solving
Outstanding performance is very important to career and life success. It's at the heart of the five success elements. No one can be successful without being a highly competent, outstanding performer. The incompetents and poor performers get identified and asked to leave or are placed in marginal positions pretty quickly. You have to identify the problems and obstacles to becoming an outstanding performer that you face before you can take action and deal with them. Don't call your problems "opportunities" or your obstacles "challenges". Call them what they are, and then get on with fixing your problems and overcoming your obstacles.

Commit to Developing Success Competencies
We all need to commit to taking personal responsibility for not only our health, but for our career and life success. Successful people do the thing they need to do to ensure that they succeed. One way that you can demonstrate your commitment to your success is by becoming competent in four key skills: creating positive personal impact, performing in an outstanding manner, becoming a dynamic communicator and developing your interpersonal competence. If you commit to becoming competent in these four areas, you’ll be on your way to a lifetime of success.

Hard Work, Outstanding Performance and Success
Outstanding performance is an important key to career and life success. As Malcolm Gladwell points out, outstanding performers are hard workers. They know what they want and do whatever it takes to get it. They enthusiastically act on their dreams. This action helps them reach their goals. There is no way around hard work. You have to put in the time and effort if you want to be successful. Ask any "overnight success." Everyone that I've ever met tells me that they spent years and years getting to the place where they became an "overnight success." Set your goals. Work hard. Work smart. And you'll succeed.

Dynamic Communication
Effective communication is vital to personal success and it is an up close and personal endeavor. All of the great communicators I know are great conversationalists. I have one great piece of common sense advice that will help you achieve personal success through effective communication: listen more than you speak. People like to talk about themselves and the best way to get to know them is to ask questions. When you meet people for the first time, ask "get to know you" questions like: "What do you do?" "Where do you live?" "Are you married?" "Do you have children?" Listen to the answers and file them away for future use. Understanding and using the keys to dynamic communication in this article can help catapult you towards achieving personal success. And they will make you a whole lot nicer to be around, too.

How to Begin a Conversation
Successful people are dynamic communicators. Dynamic communicators have mastered three basic communication skills: conversation, writing and presenting. Inviting people to participate in a conversation and getting their agreement before jumping in is an important, but often overlooked conversation skill. People who are invited to join a conversation, and choose to do so, are more likely to be better participants. If you want to become an excellent conversationalist, take a few minutes to explain why you want to have a conversation. Ask the other person if he or she has the time and is willing to participate in a conversation on that topic. Your conversations will be better and more productive if you follow this simple common sense advice.

Create a Vivid Mental Image of Your Success
Successful people define what success means to them. Then they develop a compelling and clear mental image of their success. They use this mental image to help keep their dreams alive and to keep moving forward to what they want in their lives and careers. Creating a vivid mental image of your success is not day dreaming. It's real work -- it's the work of designing your future, so you can take the steps necessary to create it.

Create Your Success by Acting With Enthusiasm
Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their career and life success. They decide what they really want out of their life and career. They create a vivid mental image of themselves having what they want. And then they act -- enthusiastically. They seize the day and do whatever it takes to get what they vividly imagine and ardently desire. Commit to taking responsibility for your success. Seize the day -- and act.

Interpersonal Competence
Interpersonal competence is the fifth key of career and life success. No matter how self confident and how good at creating positive personal impact or how great a performer and dynamic a communicator you are, you will not achieve life success without interpersonal competence. By taking the time to understand yourself and others, build strong relationships and resolve conflict positively you are well on your way to achieving life success. The greatest life success is found by those who truly seek these things.

Commit to Your Success
Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their own success. They realize that personal and professional success are the result of focus and hard work. If you want to succeed, you need to look for the opportunity in failure. Successful people don't give up. They keep on working towards their goals with a single minded focus.

How to Create Positive Personal Impact
This article is about positive personal impact. My work as an executive coaching consultant has led me to conclude that people with positive personal impact have three things in common: 1. People with powerful personal impact develop and constantly promote their personal brand. 2. People with powerful personal impact are impeccable in their presentation of self. 3. People with powerful personal impact know and practice the basic rules of etiquette.

Keep Your Fire Stoked
In so many ways this fire can be compared to a marketing team of professionals. It is nice to sit and watch the fire, watch the flames flicker but soon if you only watch and don’t feed your fire it dies down. You start to feel the chill back in the air. You must get up and put on another log on the fire.

Tiger Woods, Personal Branding and Success
Creating positive personal impact is one of the competencies all successful people possess. You create positive personal impact by developing and nurturing your unique personal brand, being impeccable in your presentation of self, and knowing and following the basic rules of etiquette. Your personal brand should be uniquely you, but it should be built on integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing -- even when no one is looking. As Tiger Woods's case demonstrates, a lack of integrity can lead to serious consequences for a carefully crafted brand. Now, everyone is looking and most people aren't liking what they're seeing. So take a lesson from Tiger -- one he's learning the hard way, build your personal brand on integrity.

Why You Must Master Self-Discpline
How many times have you felt the urge to take a small break and watch TV while you are in the middle of writing an article? Or perhaps you’re in the middle of making your prospect calls, and suddenly you decide you want to chat with your friend about weekend plans without completing your other calls? I know it’s important to take breaks once in a while, and you should to recharge your batteries, but have you ever experienced taking a break, and suddenly that break turns into a few hours and you suddenly don’t want to do that task anymore? Most of us have been guilty at one point or another, but it’s important to complete income-producing tasks to put you closer to your goals. Be carefull, Success may not be all that you expect
We all strive to be successful. But what is success? How is it rated or determined? How has your success been achieved? Has it been at any cost, to others or to yourself? The danger, today, is that success, almost exclusively, has now come to mean achievement in a particular field of endeavour. Success, for you, may be a collection of exquisite material items and great financial wealth; or to be in a position of power and influence. The trouble is that anything that is external to you can be lost. Hence the requirement for insurance, security guards, fencing, keys and locks, and for those with power and influence – minders to watch their backs! Lasting success is internal. It is contentment and being happy with yourself.

Dont attack Life It is a process
Attacking Life as in a campaign is not a good idea. Accept that Life is a process from birth to death (and paying taxes!!). Learn to live with the ups and the downs. Anything else will be stressful and cause problems. This will not bring life harmony.

How to Plant the Seeds and Reap the Harvest of Success in Network Marketing
If you’re new to network marketing and prefer to build a business offline, start planting a lot of seeds. Seeds take time to grow, and you reap what you sow. The more seeds you plant, the bigger your harvest. So what exactly are the seeds? The seeds are the prospecting tools provided by your company, and the soil is your prospects. Hand out your prospecting tools, like brochures or videos, to as many people as possible. Now that you planted these seeds, let the prospecting tools do most of the work for you. Before you hand out any of these tools, ask them some pre-qualifying questions. You can simply ask, “If I could show you a way to make extra income part time that won’t interfere with your current job, would you at least take a look at it?” If your prospect says yes to this question, hand them the prospecting tools.

Successful Entrepreneurs and The Importance Of Building A Team
Many entrepreneurs see themselves as soloists, single individuals boldly taking risks by themselves. What many have learned the hard way is that success requires a team of people who can add their unique talent and skill to the mix. Every entrepreneur needs to understand their own skills and talents, and also know what skills and talents are needed in other team members.

Goals Lead to Success
Goal setting is one of the most natural things that we do as humans. But most people don't fully harness the power of it. Here are some easy to implement ideas you can use to achieve more of your goals more often.

Achieve Your Dreams And Never Ever Give Up
If you are trying to do something better in your life, having a better lifestyle or for example travel, in other words you have big dreams (and you should have big dreams) probably you met with the opinions and advices of you friends, family members and other people. And I bet that they told you that you are crazy, that you are only a dreamer and that you should come back to the earth or something like that. In order to sell yourself and build a successful network marketing business, you need to focus entirely on the prospect. Don’t focus on yourself, your business, and your products. Instead, you need to learn about your prospects wants and needs by asking the right questions.

How to Make the Mastermind Group Unlock the Door to Success
I came across the concept of the mastermind group after reading Napoleon Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich. According to Hill, the mastermind group is formed when two or more minds work actively together in perfect harmony toward a common definite object. Hill noted that every successful person in history had a mastermind group that helped him achieve greatness. No one mind is ever complete in itself, so you need to have a mastermind group to help you achieve those objectives.

6 Proven Ways to Conquer Your Fear of Public Speaking
Cicero, renown world speaker and philosopher said, "I turn pale at the outset of a speech, and quake in every limb and in all my soul." Read Exodus to learn about Moses' fear of public speaking. John Dryden described his fear of public speaking this way, "Whenever I speak a cold sweat trickles down all over my limbs as if I were dissolving in water." I know how it feels to have running stomach, sleepless nights and disappointed audience.

Why We Need to Create Associations of Success
To thrive in any entrepreneurial venture, we need to create associations of success. Most of us have heard the saying that we are the average of the 5 people with whom we are most closely associated. Your associations of success will help you follow through with your plan and achieve your goals. You can have the greatest vision and put together the most complete plan of achieving that goal. However, being surrounded by only negative and unsupportive people will derail your plans of making your goal and vision a reality.

What Do We Do Now?: Options for Allocating Scarce Resources When You Haven’t Planned Ahead
Although advance planning for resource allocation is the ideal scenario, many organizations found themselves caught short by the severe constraints imposed by the economic downturn. Getting Support in Times of Change
As a coach and a psychotherapist, I’ve worked with hundreds of people each year who are going through dramatic change of some kind or another, and are in need of support from their families, friends, colleagues and others. We often discuss what healthy support is, and how it feels when we receive support that gives us the strength and confidence to persevere. What does helpful support look like?

3 Key Habits of Successful People

Success: The Choice is Yours
As an entrepreneur, you have the freedom to take your business in any direction you see fit. Being a successful entrepreneur ultimately depends on your quality of mindset.

Successful People Beat Procrastination
Successful people are self confident. Self confident people are optimistic. They face their fears and act. They surround themselves with positive people. Procrastination is the manifestation of fear. When you find yourself procrastinating on any task, identify what you fear about that task. Once you identify your fear, you'll find that you can put it behind you and get on with the job at hand. Procrastination and fear are the enemies of self confidence and success. Face them head on, and you'll not only build your confidence, you'll succeed in your life and career.

Successful People Develop Their Natural Talents
Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their lives and careers. As Eleanor Powell said, "What we are is God's gift to us. What we become is our gift to God." She took personal responsibility for using her God given dance talent to become the world's greatest tap dancer, and become a vaudeville, Broadway and Hollywood star. What are your God given talents? What have you done to develop them? Commit to taking personal responsibility for developing your talents. It's the best way to thank God for giving them to you, to help others, and to create the successful life and career you want and deserve.

First Comes Talent, Then Comes Success
Developing a system and judging success by how well someone follows that system, requires a perfect process that everyone can master. The reality is that the most successful people achieve their success either by not following the system or by being unaware of its existence.

Inspiration Stagnation
When people fail, it’s generally not because they don’t know what to do. It is that they don’t do what they know. People who are suffering from the deficiency of not knowing what to do can find an easy and immediate remedy as close as the Internet or their local library. Knowing what to do is relatively simple. Doing what we know separates winners from losers.

Are You a Go-Giver? 4 Ways to Start Giving More to Get More in Your Business
Are You A Go-Giver? Most entrepreneurs are highly motivated and ambitious and often referred to as “go-getters.” While being dubbed a go-getter can be a compliment, try being a “go-giver” to get even more out of your business! Here are 4 Ways to Become a Go-Giver:

The Close of the Decennium
Ten years have passed, that were never short of interesting, even without modest embellishment. We will look back on these days soon. Some years will be remembered with favor others with a wince. We may find ourselves slightly awestruck at the amount of bitter peaks and the somber valleys.

The Philosopher
It was a heavy and wet morning when the trees let out quiet sighs, aching from the fresh weight of the evening’s frost. A man sat in his study watching exhausted leaves tremble and fall, spilling light with each pirouette. It was a morning not unlike any other for this man. He rose at seven, as was his custom. Washed his face with cool water and prepared for the morning’s conversation and walk with Mr. Wellington.

How to Stay in the Game for the Long Haul by Working in Success Cycles
My mentor taught me that by working in success cycles, you will stay in the game for the long haul. Just like nature works in seasons, there are also success cycles. There is a time to learn, a time to produce, a time to harvest and reap the rewards, and a time to rest. Most people live busy lives and try to squeeze in as many activities in the day as possible. We start the day working on one project, and then we get side tracked to do something else. A few hours later, we jump back into the same project we started with, but somehow lose the momentum and rhythm to do it. We try to multitask as much as possible. I’m not saying that we should stop multi-tasking, but sometimes we need to step back and perhaps focus on one thing at a time. We should learn how to work in success cycles.

DE-CLUTTER YOUR LIFE
De-Cluttering our lives can be an extremely liberating exercise. There are many types of clutter than can hinder us having the quality of life we want and deserve.

Is Fear of Failure the Vibration You Feel Most Strongly?
Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night worrying about what if the clients don't show up? Or what am I going to do if... Or maybe just felt that sense of, "What am I doing wrong? Why can't I get a break?"

Check for Consistency - It's How the Tortoise Beat the Hare
Remember Aesop’s fable of The Tortoise and The Hare? Both were in a race, and the hare dashed off to an incredible start. He became complacent, and even arrogant to the point where he took a nap, thinking that he could wake up and still beat the tortoise. When the hare woke up, he dashed as fast as he could to the finish line only to find the tortoise celebrating victory.

Start Taking Action Now - You'll Be Closer to Your Dreams
Do you know what keeps people from achieving their goals or living their dreams? It’s not taking action. You can spend all the time in the world envisioning your future, setting goals, creating affirmation statements, meditating, and networking with successful people. However, if you spend all your time preparing and don’t take any action, your goals won’t materialize. Yes, you have to start taking action to make your goals and dreams come true.

Helping Young People Find their Path: Strength Based Coaching and the U.S. Public School System
It amazes me how many children graduate from high school and even college with little idea of what they want to do with their lives and often even less of an idea about what their natural skills are. One of the reasons is that most schools fail to recognize multiple types of intelligence and teach to only two. I am convinced that much of the confusion about life and career direction that I encounter occurs when people who don’t fit the standard mold do not get recognition for their natural skills.

Today Is The Beginning Of Your New Life

Then once you can talk to people, you need to know how to handle rejection, because it will surely happen. So, the challenge is going to be to handle it and then move on. However, that isn't always so easy.

Get The Right Answers When You Ask The Right Questions

Adding Structure To Your Home Business is Imperative
Structures in life are necessary. Without them the human, unless naturally the high structures type spoke of in a previous article, will wander aimlessly from task to task. This is easy to do when promoting online because one site will lead to another. Each offering to nickle and dime the business owner with small costs to promote their URL. Each one seems small but when added up over the month, can be a large chunk if not exceed the advertising budget set aside.

Don't Let Addictions Impact Your Success!
While all this publicity is going on for the H1N1 Virus, people are dying from a disease far more prevalent in our country. The Winner's Edge - It Separates the Winner from the Loser
So what separates the winners from the losers? It’s having the winner’s edge. It’s the little difference that makes all the difference in the world and separates people from the rest of the pact. The winners take the potential they were born with and live up to that potential. The winners make things happen, while losers simply let things happen. The winner’s edge lies in your attitude. The sharpness of that edge will all depend on whether your attitude is positive or negative.

Why Developing Mental Toughness Will Bring Great Results
You will achieve great results through developing mental toughness. So what is mental toughness? It is the desire of taking control of your emotions in performance situations. Some people claim that they work well under pressure. My mentors often argue that the statement is a myth, and pressure can actually hurt you. With added pressure, the chances are high that you will start having negative self-talk, and then lose belief in your ability to complete a task or project.

Objective Reality
If you want to create results that are truly important to you, it is critical to separate your identity (who you are) from the results you want. Feeling good or bad about yourself has little bearing on the quantity or quality of your results. If you doubt this, consider famous people with extreme self-doubts or poor self-concepts who produced spectacular results. The results of standardized tests indicate that students who "felt good about themselves" often performed lower than the scores they predicted they would achieve.

How Do You Know If YOU Respond Effectively To Adversity?
You've heard the saying, "Change your thinking - change your results". It's true, but do you know what thinking needs to change and from what to what? It's not just about heaving positive thoughts on top of a dismal situation. Nor is it about denial. A bad decision followed by hopeful thinking doesn't change the bad decision into a good one. Understanding how the High Performer is able to achieve a desired outcome is the first step we must take to improve our own productivity.

How Do You Know If YOU Are A High Performer?
In order to answer this question and know if we are a high performer, we must first define the term 'High Performer'. The simple definition is a person who achieves the best results. It's not just someone who works hard. More specifically it is someone who is able to produce desired results and achieve more of their goals. When we compare high achievers to those who fall short, a discernible difference exists. But this comparison suggests that everyone falls into either one group or the other - achiever or non-achiever. It's not quite that black and white.

It's Not MY Fault...REALLY!!!
Let's face it, it can be daunting to realize you are the one who didn't do it right. To make matters worse, it can be even harder to see it. We can think we did things right and still be wrong. We can be told and refuse to believe. In B.C. people were told the earth was round but rejected it for thousands of years. Instead they thought it was flat, stationary and the center of the universe. They were wrong...for hundreds of years. And just like the person who believes his results are not his doing, he is wrong as well. Somewhere along the way, many people became fearful of failing. As a result, some don't try while others refute their participation in causing an outcome. They detach themselves from poor results and believe they weren't responsible while thinking there is no harm being caused...WRONG AGAIN!

Incorrectly Assessing A Job Applicant's Motivation
In today's highly competitive and turbulent business environment, hiring average employees can spell "failure". Companies can not afford mediocrity while their competitors are striving to be the best. Hiring impacts profits in more ways than most companies realize. A Harvard Business School study determined that more than 75% of turnover could be traced back to poor hiring practices. The decision to hire -or not to hire- plays a significant role in turnover. The leading contributor to turnover is often not what happens after the employee is hired, but rather the process leading up to it. And turnover is not always bad if it's a bad hire that's leaving. You have to wonder if you really are hiring the best we can.

Are You Doing the Moon Walk --- Going Backwards While Moving Forward
The death of Michael Jackson recently was a tragic event. No matter what you thought of Michael personally, there is no doubt that he was one of the most talented entertainers of all time. His singing and dancing talent showcased so effectively by his performance in the video and album “Thriller” will be remembered forever as the Capstone of his career. I, like millions of his fans, mourn his passing. However, the one thing that I remember the most is his invention of the “Moonwalk”. The “Moon Walk” is a dance move that looks as if you are going forward when in reality you are moving backward. Michael made that move famous. His tragic sorrowful death reminded me of that move. The Moon Walk itself brings to mind how many businesses often struggle to achieve success; doing things that are supposed to gain market share and create success.

How Do I Fire My Son Toby? My Wife Won’t Allow It
"I love Toby. He's my oldest son, he's Vice President of Sales but he just doesn't get it. My daughter should be running this business, she's brilliant but she's married to a surgeon and doesn't want anything to do with wholesale distribution. She's quite happy with all the charity work she is involved in. My youngest son has potential but he's only twenty two and just isn't ready to take over a 0 million dollar distribution business. Two events have occurred recently that are wearing on me a little. First, I transferred 75% of my stock equally to my three kids, 25% each. All three receive a salary although my daughter rarely appears at the office due to her charity work. The second event occurred after I hired a succession consultant to help me transition into retirement. He told me that Toby was incompetetent.

Success Isn’t a Mystery in any Economy
My first piece of advice on success today for anyone willing to listen is simply to turn off the news. Don’t listen to CNN. Turn off the Fox News network, NBC, CNBC and all the other networks that are sensationalizing everything that is happening in our economy on a minute to minute basis. I have made a conscious decision not to listen because a high percentage of what you see on television today is pure garbage designed simply to improve ratings. I refuse to listen to a constant diet of negativity. In fact, I refuse to even associate with negative people. I suggest that each and every one of us has an obligation to protect our attitude.

The importance of work right now, when money is less available than we are accustomed to, when all around us people are being made redundant, has multiple facets. Goal Achieving Process Part 2: Dreaming Big Dreams
The next step in the goal achieving process is dreaming big dreams. This is my favorite part of the process because it unlocks my inner child and opens up my creative faculties. We are all creators of our experiences, so why not make them as big and exciting as possible? Big dreams help you tremendously with goal achievement, especially since big dreams give you power and enthusiasm. When obstacles get in your way and things don’t go according to plan, big dreams make up for it with energy and enthusiasm. Small dreams don’t really give you any kind of power.

Goal Achieving Process Parts 4 & 5 - Implementation and Accountability / Repeat Process
I’m now completing my series on the Goal Achieving Process with parts 4 & 5 here. There are two major reasons why people don’t reach they’re goals – they lack action (implementation) and follow-through (accountability). You may have the biggest dreams, and create S.M.A.R.T. goals, but without taking any action and following through your goals, then it’s worth nothing at all. You need to have a means and method to implement goals, and then follow-up. This all comes as a result of accountability.

Learn what this something is to have a deeper level of happiness.

Disagreeing With Brian Tracy: Self-Discipline Is Not The Most Important Success Principle
In his book The Power of Discipline,Brian Tracy talks about self-discipline being the most important success principle. He went on to define self discipline by quoting Thomas Huxley, who said, "Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not." But should we just cast aside how we feel about certain actions in business? After all business does affect the lives of all people and their families. Is self-discipline a recipe for capitalism without a conscience? I advocate putting feeling and emotions back into business. It encourages a sense of purpose and meaning back into business. If you chase success without emotion you will never find it because the pursuit of success is about obtaining a feeling of being successful. Success is essentially an emotion.

If You Plan to Succeed … You Need to Believe You Will!
I can't tell you how many times in the past where I've said I was going to accomplish something, set out a plan, and didn't accomplish it. Now there were many reasons why I didn't get it done but the biggest reason I didn't is because I simply didn't have a strong enough belief that I could. I've heard the saying a million times: "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't ... You are right! This saying is so true. Think about it for a second...

If You Want Something You Don’t Have … TAKE ACTION!
Let's face it ... each of us want things we don't currently have and circumstances we'd love to improve. The question is how bad do you want them, and are you willing to do what it takes? I've often found myself complaining about how busy I am and how difficult it is to accomplish all that I want to. About 18 months ago I decided to keep track of everything I was doing throughout the course of each day so I could attempt to figure out how I could maximize my productivity and accomplish more. To my surprise ...

Starting New Habits is Uncomfortable … But Necessary for Success!
Well I survived my first day of my new commitments, and you know what? It wasn't that bad! I'm not saying that it was easy. If I did ... I'd be lying! Every time we start new habits it is very uncomfortable, but if we continue to do things the same way over and over and follow our old habits ... we can expect to live with the uncomfortable feeling of never achieving more. In my opinion, the second we stop striving to become better, we begin to die. You tell me ... What could be more uncomfortable than death?

Just Because You Are A Negative Whiner Today, Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Change!
Alright so I just told you yesterday that if you encounter someone who is always complaining or moaning you need to realize they are simply a complainer and moaner so you shouldn't waste your time asking why... And now I am telling you just because you are a negative whiner today, doesn't mean you can't change! What's the deal? Ha ha! Well there is one huge difference. If you find yourself dealing with a negative whiner you have absolutely no control over that person, and attempting to change them is absolutely impossible. The only person on the face of the planet we have any power to change is ourselves. If you can find it within yourself to absolutely believe that the only person stopping your from changing, is yourself ... You should feel empowered!

Owning a Small Business Can Be Like Living Alone On An Island
Can you remember when you decided to start your business? I am sure you felt the same nervous excitement I did! I remember when I first told my plans to my Mom. She said, "That sounds exciting Pete, but wouldn't you rather get a job with a big company so you can work hard and have a pension some day?" My response was, "No Mom, I don't want to be in a position where I know exactly what my paycheck is going to be each week." I wanted to know I had the ability to build something that would produce a large income, and perhaps one day I would build it to a point where I could sell it for enough money that I could retire to an island somewhere and drink pina coladas in the sun every day.

Creating Personal Success
Creating Personal Success ---- Every manager, every employee and every leader that has any drive at all strive to be successful. Success starts with self awareness. That means understanding your personal strengths and weaknesses. It also means having enough humility to work on those weaknesses. Both the Democrats and the Republicans were preaching change in the presidential election. I only mention that because I really like the buzz words --- "Yes We Can" that have been used by both campaigns during the Presedential election process.

Empowerment - Ten Tips to Avoid Micro Management
I deal with a lot of leaders that confuse delegation with empowerment. I am often told, "I don't micro manage, I empower my employees." However, when we start digging into specific situations, we often uncover the difference between delegation and empowerment. It is really not that difficult to ascertain the difference. Delegation is simply getting someone else to perform a specific task for you. "Tom, can you move these for pallets for me to make some room for a new shipment coming in tomorrow?" Empowerment sets a little higher expectation that encourages the employee to use their own creativity and innovation.

What is going on that so many are not happy with what they do? Everyone is born with innate potential for a unique set of capacities, skills, and abilities. Enlist Your Self Control and Achieve Even More
Self-control is defined as “control of oneself” or the “ability to master one's desires and impulses. Philosophically speaking self-control could be described as the exertion of one's own will. Psychologically, self-control usually refers to a person’s self-perception, belief system, as well as the ability to set boundaries on their own behavior. Among some scientific communities, the issue seems to be whether or not what we perceive as “normal” is truly an accurate setting to work with. Most people assume that self-control is healthier than impulsiveness. However, this has to be compared to each person’s value system – their community

Learn To Increase Your Confidence for Greater Success
Confidence is generally thought of a mental state of being “certain.” Confidence could apply to the knowledge one carries that his viewpoint is true. Confidence could also apply to a permanent emotional state of mind, as in self-confidence: having high self-esteem in general and especially when considering a specific capability. Case in point: some people who struggle with self-doubt in most aspects of their life, but who are confident in one belief. Confidence has sometimes been called a “self-fulfilling prophecy”, since those that have it succeed just as they predict, whereas those who lack it fail because they worry too much about not having it.

STRUGGLING TOWARD A CONSTANCY TO PURPOSE
One of the unfortunate realities of our time is the tendency we have of allowing other persons and society define the meaning of success in our lives. In doing so we absolve ourselves from any meaningful internal dialogue and true understanding of who we are and why we were meant to be here or our purpose/mission in life. Those who regularly read my bulletins know that I have some pretty strong opinions about how we all should live our lives. This statement seems contradictory to my opening remarks but stay with me and I will explain. I thought it would be interesting for us to examine how four different generations might view success based upon what we have come to know about them and what they value. Perhaps from this cursory examination we might get some ideas for what truly constitutes SUCCESS?

Are You a Real Leader or Just an Imitation?
The easiest way to suppress discretionary energy, the energy given willingly - no matter what it takes, is a style often used by "Imitation Leaders" that scrutinizes every decision an employee makes. It can kill the employee's spirit. It destroys trust. Leadership imitation is often just a symptom of ineffective planning, too much compassion and the inability to judge performance and develop bench strength. The "Imitation Leader" usually has a shoot from the hip mentality that encourages micro management and does not allow employees to develop their skills and maximize their potential. One of the many warning signs is a high turnover rate. The reason is simple; good employees just won't tolerate micro management and they will leave to find employment that will challenge them and help them grow.

Change on Purpose
More than ever before, our current economy demands of most companies the ability to achieve measurable results that are specific to profitability, growth, cost containment and operational effectiveness. Of course, none of this will be possible without leadership and organizational change. Without change your company becomes stagnant, uncompetitive and boring. A leader's major responsibility is to create change, instigate change and then manage change effectively. In spite of the fact that creating change is a key competency required to be an effective leader, most people resist change. This includes leaders themselves. However, effective leaders accept change as a positive force and they are able to convince those that follow them that change is nothing more than a road map to a new and better destination.

Manage your Assets but Lead your People
I have had suggestions made to me by owners, presidents and CEOs that would baffle the mind of most professionals that have integrity. For example, I once was asked to fire an individual because his wife's illness had caused the company to reach their catastrophic cap in their insurance program. This same owner would intentionally run mail that contained checks to his vendors through the meter at two cents so they would arrive with postage due. He thought this was a great cost savings idea until the government sent him a cease and desist letter.

Has Your Sales Force Lost Their Passion
Nowadays, salespeople must be problem solvers able to generate solutions for customers in their time of need. Therefore, they must possess a great deal of knowledge about your customers' business. They must actually define what those needs are because the customer may not know, nor take the time to explain if they do know. Customers want you to have the knowledge and intelligence to comprehend and analyze their problems before showing up at the door. Customers will listen and buy from the salesperson that finds the "pain" and takes it away. Sometimes going back to the basics is part of the answer to rekindling the passion. That means revisiting best practice in all areas including targeting, goal setting, customer profiling and action planning.

Developing Your Management Team
Your management team must have an edge. They must be courageous enough to take risk and have an unrelenting readiness to act. Popularity is not a requirement but the ability to generate respect from the employees is without a doubt one of the most critical attributes. They must be relentless in their efforts, unconscious about personal sacrifice of their time and the willingness to go beyond normal expectations. Tough decisions are commonplace; uncharted territories will be the norm. Honesty and impeccable character is a must. Being decisive, doing the right thing, setting clear objectives, motivating and inspiring employees and creating a sense of urgency are challenges that must be met by all members of the management team. Every single member of your management team has to make a difference.

What Successful People Avoid in Their Communication
There are key, unbelievably overused sentences you must make efforts to consciously avoid in your communication, especially in these uncertain economic times. Check those who use these sentences frequently and chances are they are not on your list of the people you consider successful in any endeavor of life. I call them de-motivators and dream busters or responsibility deflectors. The moment you utter any of them, you surrender your desire for immediate action and “borrow” time to wallow in self pity-which is a dangerous move that will never bring either tangible or intangible results.

Hidden in Plain View

More lessons from MasterChef – Can you take the heat?
As the saying goes, “If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen”. Once again MasterChef has served up some great life lessons. Last year I wrote about the great leadership, coaching and mentoring we can learn from MasterChef. Again Garry, George, Matt and the other guest chefs showed us how to excel in this area of leadership. On this occasion, I want to comment on ‘Resilience’ and dealing with setbacks and challenges, and how MasterChef gave us a window into how people handle stress and demanding situations. The time pressures and increasingly difficult tasks set for the contestants showed us how well they were able to manage themselves under pressure and produce the goods. You could often see the demands of a given situation getting to a number of the contestants. It was unrelenting at times.

Using your dreams and goals to create wealth Part 1
I thought, you can go where you want to go and do what you want to do, when you want to do it. In reality, as it turned out, money was only a tool.

First Step-Using your dreams and goals to create wealth Part 2
To take your first step and set your mind on the course to financial success, you must begin to dream. You must begin to envision the kind of life you desire. TIME, TIME, TIME ….IS NOT ON MY SIDE!
Many say the WORLDS GREATEST ROCK N’ ROLL BAND is the Rolling Stones! The new thoughts may surprise you!

LET’S DANCE!
I almost got shot the other day! One of my coaching clients called to tell me about a very successful meeting that they had just completed that ended in them getting a very important new customer. This was a real tough one and one that we had worked on to create a powerful strategy plan to sue in the coming meeting…and the plan worked! We celebrated. I celebrated for my customer...and I think everyone should celebrate any level of victory in business today. It's a great way to stimulate the slow or lost passion in the employees, leadership and even ownership!

Dreaming is fun, isn’t it? Part 3
Someone once said that what the mind can see, the body can achieve. I believe it. I go a step further. I believe that the mind must see it before the body is able to work for it. Look at another realm of human endeavor: sports. When Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile, he saw it long before he did it. Over and over in his mind, he later recalled, he visualized doing what had been deemed to be impossible. Interestingly enough, once Bannister did what no one else had ever done before, others quickly succeeded in doing it.

A millionaires dreams
Financial freedom is your dream. As long as you can dream, you can continue to succeed. Show me a person who has no dream, and I will show you someone who is poor. A millionaire dreams, and then sets out to make those dreams real. Once you stop dreaming, you stop the magic. That’s because you have created the world you wanted. You stop moving forward, because your dreams have ended. Either you are content to live with what you have or you are constantly frustrated because you don’t have enough-or you learn to dream again.

Character and Competence
When hiring for and growing employees within an organization, it is essential to consider both character and competence traits. The single best strategy for helping a company improve results starts with hiring the right people for the right business needs. It is far better to leave a vacancy unfilled rather than fill just because “any warm body in the chair will help.” The pain and cost of making poor hiring decisions is unnecessary. Sprinkle the hiring process with a bit more deliberation and patience and watch the long-term results take an upward course.

This week as I was channel surfing I came across a cooking show on one of the Food Network. After unveiling the dish, the chef and his co-judges introduced each ingredient used in the dish. As the ingredients were placed on a back lit table the names of each one appeared. The whole presentation was a testimony to the art and science of visual merchandising.I couldn't stop wondering if there was a secret recipe to designing retail projects. What’s Love Got to Do With It?
Now, let’s clarify what I mean by “love.” That little four letter word has tons of different meanings in the English language. For the purpose of today’s article, let’s go with “affectionate concern for the well-being of others” and “strong predilection, enthusiasm, or liking for anything.” If you want to be successful, you have to genuinely care about others. When I was a teen, I read the famous 1936 book by Dale Carnegie -“How to Win Friends and Influence People.” When you’re a teen, you REALLY want to win friends. It resonated with me and I immediately began to implement the principles he outlined.

Your Mindset and Your Money
The way you think and the beliefs you hold are reflected in how successful you are (success defined as YOU would like it!) and how much money comes into your life. These are not new ideas. In 1937, in the midst of the Great Depression, Napoleon Hill published the book Think and Grow Rich. He was inspired by billionaire Andrew Carnegie to take on an enormous project – to interview 500 of the most successful men at the time (today we KNOW at least half of these would be women) and to determine what they had in common that contributed to their success.

My Own Worst Enemy
I was so surprised to find these beliefs inherently buried in my subconscious. Guiding my thoughts, my behaviors and my dreams. I thought I was far beyond my old habits of financial limitation - but guess what? I only limited them to my subconscious. They were still alive and kicking in the back of my mind.

Success and Fear
What you fear has no power until you give it yours. When we fear something we are handing our personal power over to that which we fear. When we’re afraid of circumstances, situations or loss, we’re really giving our power away to the circumstance, situation or the loss. So, whether we’re facing health issues, the bank manager, a hungry tiger or an uncertain tomorrow, we only become powerless when we surrender our power.

So Who The Hell Am I?
Many facets of life, business, and even the perception we hold of success, are based on the foundation of our special relationships and our judgment. Special relationships can be used to endorse I am loved and wanted or I am dismissed and/or unimportant. So, for example, if I am not invited to the party or I dont get the promotion, or the bank wont extend my overdraft I can use my special relationships to evaluate my own worth in a negative sense. Rather than getting in touch with our own sense of who we are, we look to our special relationships to define us.

The Banner of Success
Each of us is born with unlimited potential and unlimited options. As infants, we are quite certain that the entire universe revolves around us. Things are only important as they impact or relate to our lives. It's almost as if we were born with a banner that proclaims I'm lovable; I'm capable; and I'm able to do anything I set my mind to. As time goes on, we make the mistake of allowing other people to write things on our banner. And they will write things such as You're ugly; You're stupid; or You will never amount to anything.

Consistency is Key
One of the most powerful methods of maintaining forward momentum in business, or just life in general, is by applying consistent pressure toward achieving the goals that you've set out in front of yourself. It is life's own version of compound interest, and by utilizing it, you can experience some powerful growth in whichever areas you apply it to.

You Are Surrounded!
In many areas of life, and business you hear people talking about some of the key components to becoming a successful person in their chosen professions. One thing you hear mentioned over and over again, is that it’s important to surround yourself with likeminded individuals with similar goals, or perhaps people who have already succeed in that field.

Being the B.E.S.T.
In our society, we revere those who are the best at what they do. Chants of "We're #1" are heard frequently. You will never hear, "We're #2," or "We're not great, but we're better than we were last year." If we want to be the best at whatever we do, we've got to break it down into its individual components.

Expect the Best
I hope that I am not the first person to inform you of the solemn and inevitable fact that life is not fair. Unfortunately, we do not always get what we want or deserve or earn. We do, however, inevitably get what we expect. We move inexorably toward our most dominant thought.

It is important, however, to draw a distinction between the possessions we have and those possessions that have us.

Acres of Diamonds
Your greatest opportunities lie under your own feet. They lie in your intellect, your talent and abilities, your education and experience, as well as with your family members, friends and business contacts. The challenge is that in the rough, a diamond does not look like a diamond that we are familiar with. It looks like a black, rough piece of rock and must be cut, shaped and polished repeatedly before it glistens like the valuable stone that it is.

Why Setting Goals Do Not Work
Your entire life, you hear people say, “You have to set goals for yourself.” I have said it and I know you have too. What nobody told us is goals don’t work. Do you know why goals don’t work? I am going to tell you and you will be saying to yourself, “I didn’t really think about that.”

Abundance Abounds
Does wealth mean monetary success? Or can it mean more than just money? When one speaks of wealth, the natural inclination is to assume money is being referred to. But there are so many other things in life than just money.

Abundance and Prosperity
Being abundant and prosperous is so much more than just about having money or wealth. It’s about being in a place where your energy allows you to receive money and wealth, if that’s your true focus.

The Rules Apply
Success and happiness in life come when we begin to understand that the universal rules apply to us. Remember when you were a teenager? You were never going to get old. The concept of being 30 was so foreign to you as to not have meaning. Then, before you know it, you are 30, but you are certain that you'll never be as old as 40, etc. I can remember being a small child and unaware that the law of gravity did, indeed, apply to me. A few bumps and bruises later, the reality became clear.

Business has boomed and business has gloomed in his twenty-five years with the company. Unfortunately, lately has been more gloom and doom than boom. Byron has made millions of dollars on stock options as the company has moved up and down with the energy sector. The predictability of the stock is amazing when looked at historically. He is very wealthy with all the promise and challenge fortune brings. He feels very deserving of his spoils.

Your Grass is Green
It is important to realize that success is success and failure is failure in any and every endeavor of life. What Is Personal Branding And How Do you Do It?
About two years ago, I asked a question. What is personal branding? I was first introduced to the term by my mentor, Michael Force. The first thing that came to my mind was a fire and a poker. Not something I want to do to myself and I don’t think I would let somebody else do it to me either. Now that I have a better understanding of what it is, I want to share with all of you the same things, I came to learn.

Are You Careful or Careless
The average adult typically utters 40,000 words each day, according to a study performed by Professor Robin Dunbar of Liverpool University. A substantial amount, but have you actually considered how valuable words are? What about how powerful they are? Words have the power to heal, lighten, comfort, and encourage, on the flip side they can wither, hurt, anger and discourage. What a gamut!

Are you Positive or Negative
Magnetism is a wonderful thing. We often hear that someone "has a magnetic personality", or that they are "full of magnetism", even that opposites attract "like magnets". Why the fascination with magnetism?

Are you soaring or snoring? Handstand or quicksand - you make the call!
Are you greeting each new day with optimism and energy or are you feeling a bit lackluster? Are you dragging in the morning, slogging through mental, physical, and emotional quicksand throughout your work day, when school lets out, or any of those other times you want – and need - to be bright, cheery, energetic?

Be Inspired Not Tired

Are there things you know you have to get done, but you are lacking the motivation to do them? How about changing things around so that they become "inspired actions", and not "required actions"?

Buddying Up
You're ready to make some changes. You've decided to pursue your passion, change directions, and jump right in. You have a wonderful coach who keeps you on course through weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly session, but somewhere in between scheduled sessions you find yourself faltering. Are you looking for a way to stay on course daily?

Our finest business schools are beefing up their ethics programs in response to the erosion of corporate ethics that has resulted in the recent high profile debacles, right? Guess again...

Get Your Priorities Straight!
Lately, I have been amazed at the answers I get when I query executives about their priorities. Many utter a reference to "objectives" that sounds good, but soon they discover that their answers do not clarify what their priorities are that day. They often are not clear on what actions they need to focus on today that will lead to success tomorrow.

Finding True North With the Help of a Child

I Need You For a Mission!
What is your Mission in life? Yes, it's a heavy question but one worth asking yourself. Have you spent time thinking about what gifts you possess and how to utilize those gifts to the best of your ability?

Decisions, Decisions
Do you ever wonder why decisions you make foster reactions that you never dreamed of? In a Hay Group research brief entitled "Executive Blind Spots," the results of a large survey concluded that the higher executives rose within an organization; • The more they over-rated themselves compared to how they were rated by others, and; • The wider the gap between how they saw themselves and how their peers, subordinates, and managers viewed them. Individual contributors and lower level managers, in contrast, showed no significant gaps between how they and others rated them.

The Coaching Fallacy What it is and what it isnt
There is much confusion about what Coaching is- and isn’t. Many consulting firms have simply gone through their marketing materials and changed the word “consulting” to “coaching.” For many in the business world, that sums up what they perceive Coaching to be, a new word for consulting. Nothing could be farther from the truth!

The Secret to Feeling in Control During Times of Change
For most of us, the thought of having control over life inconveniences seems like a great idea; wouldn’t it be great to control traffic, the weather, our family or neighbors? However, rather than actual control over our environment, what we really want is simply a sense of control, to feel like we’re on top of things. This can be achieved by choosing to accept challenges for what they are, setting a clear intention of what we need to do and finding the balance between our level of ability and the challenge presented. By learning to consciously reframe even the most chaotic situation, you’ll find that feeling “in control” is less about making life go according to plan, and more about your ability to focus on what you can control.

Success is a team sport. In this era of connectedness the lone hero is a thing of the past. And yet, one person can make a difference in the success of a project, a division, a company. There are three major obstacles that must be considered when you lead a team or coordinate projects. They all are a combination of individual behaviors and how these behaviors react in a system of relationships.

Goal Getting
Close your eyes. Imagine that everything you desire is just a wish away. All you have to do is close your eyes, focus your thoughts and ask your genie to make your wishes, dreams, or goals come true. Wouldn't that be cool? What if you didn't have to rely on anyone else but yourself? Not even your own personal genie. Wouldn't that be even better?

Grabbing Life by the Tail
How’s your life going right now? If you had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, would it be an 8 or better? If someone could take a snapshot of your life at any given moment, what would it look like? Are you laughing, smiling and happy, or frowning, sad and worried? It seems as though negativity and dissatisfaction is quite commonplace and a happy, positive, upbeat mood and lifestyle is rare. Granted, society, current events, and everyday occurrences do play a major role, but doesn’t it make you wonder if you’re on top of life, because you’re successfully calling the shots, or life’s on top of you, stealing your happiness and satisfaction, making you follow where it decides to take you.

HalfFULL
When a whole lot of things are not going your way, it can be quite difficult to find a bit of optimism, seemingly impossible, in fact. But hold on, do you remember the old "is the glass half-empty, or half-full" adage? Well, it serves a dual purpose. If you find yourself thinking that "the glass really is half-empty," it serves as a wake up call to the need for an attitude adjustment. On the other hand, if you think "the glass is half-full"--then you've just touched on another of the natural laws, the Law of Polarity. The fact that everything has an equal and exact opposite.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand
Do you have someone that you look up to? Is this someone that you would like to emulate? Someone that you feel has achieved the type of success that you would one day like to achieve? What if that person wanted to take you by the hand and show you the ropes, the steps that he/she took to get where they are? Well, if they did, you'd be mentored. Mentoring is the key to big-time success. The way that shortcuts are learned about, potential mistakes are avoided, and many contacts are made.

It Coulda Been Me
In today’s society, so much is based on scales, decided by tests, and judged by comparison. It’s no wonder that society, as a whole, has issues about achievement and the quest for success. Success, like most other things is viewed as a goal that has levels, and all too many people believe that they are incapable of achieving true success. Why is this? The universal Law of Equality states that the dreams and desires of each person are just as important as the next, as is their fulfillment.

It Really Isnt Who You Know but Who You Assemble

Being afraid of making cold calls, soliciting business from potential clients, and/or being rejected the 8-9 times out of 10 (which is typical for a business owner) is often what causes most businesses to fail.

How “Lack of Employee Initiative” Is Hindering Business Growth
When a collective group of employees individually think like an owner, assume responsibility like an owner, and take initiative like an owner in a structured environment, your company makes giant advances forward. Typically, a struggling company has “dead weight” of uninspired employees dragging the company behind their competitors.

The Toxic Manager
Most managers are not comfortable with a simple truism that the current condition of any organization is direct reflection of leadership. In other words, managers are accountable for the current success or failure of the team. This epiphany is a rude awakening for some and a sad reality for others. The challenge faced by most aspiring leaders is the brutal accountability that accompanies autonomy. In other words, team performance is directly related to "who" is on the team and "how" they are managed. The wrong people certainly influence performance and this quantification of talent is the primary measure of success and failure.

Attitude
If something is not going right in your life – ask yourself, “how is my attitude”. Are you letting this stop you from getting what you really want in life?

Understanding the tendencies of managers can be very entertaining and humorous. Learning to identify the common challenges faced by many managers can enlighten us to the point that we improve our own performance. Labels can help us identify both the success and failure we all experience when assuming a leadership position within an organization. As you read this, I encourage you to examine these labels for both intrinsic and extrinsic value. In other words, do you sometimes exhibit behavior that can be indentified with each label? Have you worked with others that fit these descriptions?

Make Peace with Your Task List
There are several strategies for accomplishing more in less time. But there is something even more important that needs to happen first. You need to stop fighting with the belief that you need to get it all done in order to have a successful business.

Defining Belief
Psychology, as well as other practices relating to human mentality, has long held that belief is the most basic form of conscious thought. The issue of whether belief is actually a mental state remains the subject of debate. Nevertheless, in psychology, before a subject can learn any new information, the belief system must first be addressed. This allows the "proposition", or the object of the belief, to be learned.

Map Out Your Life or Else...
Mapping out the perfect life. Stop and think about this for a minute. How many people really invest the time and effort to map out a detailed plan… and then stick to it persistently and consistently? When we have a growth challenge in front of us, how many of us fall into the trap of making excuses and arguing for our limitations instead of making unbreakable appointments with ourselves to perform the daily actions that lead to success… no matter what?

Being All That We Can See
There is no objective reality. We don't see the world as it is, we see the world as we are. Sean was filling out a university questionnaire to help determine roommate compatibility. Beside the questions, "Do you make your bed every day?" and "Do you consider yourself a neat person?" he checked "Yes." Later his mother reviewed the questionnaire. Knowing those answers were far from the truth, she asked Sean why he'd lied. "What do you expect me to do," he retorted. "I don't want to get stuck living with some slob!"

Three Habits Of Successful People I Know
Lately, I’ve met and heard from a lot of people that are really excited about rebounding their business and personal lives in 2011. I honestly don’t recall seeing this much enthusiasm in awhile. I think I’ve got goose-bumps!

Are YOU Walking The Talk?
When you create vision and mission statements for your company you are communicating to your customers, vendors, prospects, employees, and the entire outside world. When we create these visions and missions, we are creating value statements, and as an owner or manager you have to deliver, with those values, results! I like to call that “Walking the Talk”. There is no doubt that companies that consistently “Walk their Talk” do better than those that don’t.

More To Walking The Talk
When you and your team are committed to your mission daily through the right activities and you keep your vision in view, “walking the talk” should be a piece of cake, right? It’s really not that easy. Last week, we discussed five characteristics I believe a company must exhibit to follow through on what it says it’s going to do. Today, I’d like to add a few more ways you can ensure you and your company is “walking the talk.”

What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up? (It's Never Too Late To Find Your Dream Job!)
What do you want to be when you grow up? When you grow outside of your limitations, fears and self-doubts, when you grow out of needing other people's approval, when you grow out of living up to the expectations of others. When you finally give yourself permission to dream and be happy.

Take Time to Celebrate Your Successes (With Shoes Or Other Fun Things!)
Congratulating yourself for a job well done cements those good feelings firmly into the present. Success breeds success and the more "proof" you have that you are successful, the easier it will be to attract further good fortune.

Don't Think About How Much You Hate Your Job... You Might Feel The Urge To Do Something About It
But seriously, don't think about how much you HATE your job, unless you're ready to do something about it. It's okay to be scared and not know what to do, but you have to take the first step. Please don't spend another year, month, week or DAY hating your job. There's so much more out there waiting for you.

What I Learned from My 50 Different Jobs
A Jill-of-All-Trades from a young age, I’ve had more than 50 jobs in my life – mainly because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so I thought I’d test them all!I had serious angst about my “purpose” and wandered through these jobs hoping for a bolt of inspiration to hit me.

You Don't Have to Be Perfect! (Hear that, You Crazy Perfectionist?!)
By far, the most dangerous side effect is that perfectionists punish themselves constantly. Do you avoid achieving your dreams because you are not perfect...yet? What are you waiting for? You could wait forever.

Should You Quit Your Job?
If you hate your job then it’s not about if but WHEN you should quit and do something else.

What will you do to unleash that powerful part of yourself who is longing to be free, daring and utterly fearless? Turn around and realise that the door to the coop is open. It always was. You are free to leave your self-imposed limitations and soar.

DON'T Work With Me If You Hate Your Job... You Might Feel The Urge To Do Something About It
My first thought was “I could never be a corporate coach, everyone would end up quitting their jobs”. It made me laugh so much! Can you imagine? I’d get hired by the CEO of a company to coach his employees to be more effective in their jobs and then I’d encourage all of my clients to throw away their “safe” corporate careers to do something WAY more exciting and fulfilling.

Fire-Up Your Employees
Do your employees need a boost of energy? Are they lacking motivation or inspiration? Could they use some fire underneath them? Sometimes motivational words just won’t cut it. Employees are looking for much more. Investing in the good ones can go a long way, today and in the future. If you can truly energize employees, they will drink the company kool-aid and your bottom line will be better off for it.

Reap Rewards with the Right Reputation
We’ve all heard the old cliche, “Under-Promise and Over-Deliver”. It’s easier said than done, isn’t it? Today, in these challenging economic times, many people tend to promise prospective customers more so they perceive the value as better than what a competitor can offer. Those same people also enjoy over-promising to make themselves feel more valued. Do they not think these actions will come back to haunt them? The overall point I’d like to make today is that we cannot build a reputation for ourselves or our company by what we say we can do. We build good reputations by delivering what our customers need.

Recruit and Hire the Right People for Success
Your people are, without a doubt, your greatest asset. As Jim Collins so eloquently put it in his book, titled Good to Great….”To be successful you have to get the right people on the bus with you”….and as I like to say, you need to be the person with the steering wheel in your hands. Most small businesses get in the habit of hiring people when they need them TOMORROW, rather than recruiting people all the time and having a pool of ready to go prospects...

Leading Through Challenges
Today, we are facing many challenges in our business and personal lives. As leaders, these challenges come at us constantly and to be effective we must ensure we are “doing the right things” to lead through them. Sometimes challenges come at us, like a storm that comes from nowhere on a summer evening, and you’re in the middle of a lake (not that it’s ever happened to me).

The Business Coaching Perspective
Often I am asked general questions around coaching, so I thought I would be a good idea to commit a few columns to some general education about Business & Life coaching, from my perspective. As you may remember from some of my prior columns, I define marketing as “the constant education of your target audience.” I remind you of this, so you understand that I am not deliberately marketing to you through this educational piece.

What Coaching Is
Last week I introduced you to coaching and started to outline for you what coaches do and how coaching works. I explained that coaching is an intangible service, that it’s future driven, how important the relationship is between a coach and client, why passion is required from both of them, and how educational coaching can be. Today, I am going to continue with more of what coaching is:

Are You Ready For Coaching
If and when you are considering whether or not to hire a coach, you are actually deciding if you are ready to embark on a grand adventure. Coaching is not for everyone and even highly coachable people have times in their lives when coaching may not be what they really want or need. Here are a few important questions I ask prospective clients to ask themselves before making a decision:

What Coaching Isn't
I hope over the past two weeks you’ve gotten a good idea of what Business & Life Coaching is. I know I’ve sparked some new interest, as several readers have called and/or emailed me. Thank you for your interest. Marketing is all about education and I believe education is something we all must be getting constantly. Think about that and your business. Today, I would like to share with you what I believe coaching isn’t. I know what you’re thinking right now. You’re thinking, why would he have to write about this, isn’t it just the opposite of what coaching is? While some of that may be true, let’s look at what coaching truly isn’t:

Get The Most Out Of Coaching
The past four weeks, I have outlined for readers what I believe Business & Life Coaching is and isn’t, and also challenged you by asking if you’re ready for coaching. Today, we complete this series by assuming you are ready. So, here we go!

These are absolute networking MUSTS for anyone serious about meeting the right people...

Market Strategy Essential Today!
The great Thomas Jefferson once said, “The man who stops advertising to save money is like the man who stops the clock to save time.” My twist on that is, “The business owner, sales professional, self-employed professional, salesperson, etc, that stops marketing is a person guaranteed to fail. I have found the biggest failures around marketing are due to the general misconceptions around what marketing really is. The truth is, there is a big difference between advertising and marketing. In our Sales to Marketing Bootcamp, we clearly define and separate the two.

Three “A’s” to Total Success
While personally I don’t see our economy changing much at all this year, any of you who read my column on a regular basis know how I feel about the economy helping us with our business lives. If you wait for the economy to help your business, chances are your business won’t be around; if and when the economy rebounds. So what can and should you do? Adopting these three habits will get you off to a strong start toward changing your business and your life:

Use Your Time Effectively and Accomplish More!
We are all one big habit. From the time we get up in the morning to the way we treat people. Each of us has the choice to be one big bad habit or one big effective and thriving habit. If you chose the latter having Time Management skills are a must. Unfortunately Time Management is a skill many of us seem to learn and use only through necessity. When we use Time Management from a reactive standpoint, usually bad habits creep in and we end up not using the skill to its full potential.

PLAY TO WIN .. or Play Not To Lose?
Whether as a parent, partner, small business owner or sales manager, we all know that there are two ways to initiate an important (perhaps even challenging) conversation or project. We can play to win - or play not to lose. Playing to win requires some strategy and taking into consideration how the other person(s) will be affected and hopefully benefit. It also commands a sense of purpose, responsibility and a fair bit of effort! Playing not to lose takes just about as much out of you, without the potential \\\\\\\'positives\\\\\\\' that come from playing to win. What are the signs that you have slipped into this mode; perhaps trying \\\\\\\'really hard\\\\\\\', feeling tired, disheartened or discouraged, confused, or unclear?

How do you REINVENT Yourself?
You really can reinvent yourself, and you don’t have to back up the calendar. In fact, that’s what reinvention is, and we all can do it ‘every day' if need be. The alternative is that we make excuses about why we can’t - and thus, put our choices in the hands of someone else. If you reflect for just a few minutes, chances are you will recall numerous times in your life where you chose to make the best of a 'not so great' situation. It might have been a choice to think or respond differently, or completely rewrite the script! The great thing is that the decision was and is always yours! Here's to your success!

Being True to Me
"Finding my voice" is a phrase often used by artists, writers, musicians, and other creative people to describe the often difficult process of learning from other artists' styles and, from these, developing the style that most truly represents yourself. This applies not just to artists, but to people in just about any walk of life. Each of us learns from what surrounds us - for example, the expectations and value systems of parents, society, institutions, friends, peers, our boss, or our organization. But then we have to ask ourselves whether these things really reflect our own personal values. And if they don't, we need to move beyond them to find what does. This takes a lot of work - and even more courage.

Letting Go
There is really no such thing as time management. We all have the same 24 hours a day. What you can manage is where you put your attention. Where you spend your energy and time. And for many of you, you may not be spending your precious time doing things you love or being in environments that support you in fully developing your true self. One key is to let go of habits, commitments and even people who are not contributing to your life in a positive way. Here are a couple of tips to get you started.

Success means doing something

If we want to be successful and relevant in the future, we've got to understand the way the world really is and, more importantly, the way it will be in the future. How Much Time Do Sales People Waste?
As sellers, we waste over 90% of our time. We need to find prospects, get them bought-in to the possibility of using our solution, get them what they need to understand our solution and how it might fit, get past gatekeepers, manage objections, get to the right people who will know how to buy us, and wait. And then, we only close a small fraction.

When it comes to succeeding in today’s loud and crowded marketplace, you benefit by catching people’s attention and you are more likely to accomplish your goals if you relate to people.

What are Your Limits?
I've learned to embrace the word "limit". A word I never thought I'd like. But here's the thing. Setting limits -limits that YOU choose -actually makes you more powerful.

Three Key Elements for Addressing Organizational Challenges Effectively
One critical success factor stands out above others as a determinant of leaders’ effectiveness in addressing them: having a clearly articulated “big picture.” More specifically, an optimal “big picture” focuses on outcomes or impact, and it is stated in the affirmative.

Working Hand-in-Hand: The Importance of People in Your Business
The foundation of every business is its people, and learning to maximize the strengths, ideas and contributions of those people is essential. Here is a breakdown of the ways each person – yourself, your clients and your support team – plays a certain, equally important role, and the benefits of recognizing and embracing those roles.

Tough times challenge and bring out the best in us
What have you been dreaming about over the years? When you have many goals and dreams and you want to be better equipped to make them reality, you need to summon your passion. Passion is one of the most potent motivators when it comes to cranking up your desire to succeed. It’s crucial to understand the direct relationship between the fuel of your passion and real success. The relationship really only exists if you have been honest with yourself about whether you really want your goal or dream to materialize. You have to want it-desperately!

Practices for a Peace-Filled Business
High achievers and entrepreneurs have a tendency to blame their team, economy, lack of knowledge, time and/or money for the problems they experience in their business. You never do that, right? I’m going to assert that you change the entire mode of your business operation if you adjust your practices.

What Your Logo Designer Needs to Know About Your Business
If someone asks me to design a logo based on a tiny bit of information, then I have to make just as many assumptions about the personality of the business, its customers, and the owner's personal taste as I do in creating my hypothetical dinner. And the logo I design winds up being more about me and my preferences than about my client's business.

Getting to the Middle of it: Building a Business From its Core
Building the core of a business is essential, but not always easy to do. Helping an entrepreneur to understand her role as the core of her company is important, and here, we explain the reasons why building a business around the core – yourself – is so crucial. In fact, that strong core leads to empowering all other aspects of business!

6 Steps to Creating a Successful Life
We all possess creativity; it’s actually in our very nature. Unfortunately many of us where told in the early parts of our lives that we were not creative, and we probably believed it. As a result of this our natural creative instincts were suppressed. Luckily by following these 6 simple steps they can be reawakened.

Creating Success This Year
Make this year the best year of your career and your life. Look inside yourself, reflect and decide now what you will change, stop, start and continue doing this year.

We Have All the Time There Is
A new view of time utilization. It begins with a shift in our relationship to time.

Better to Try and Fail – or not try at all??
Recently I watched the 2007 movie Lions for Lambs. In this movie a brilliant but apathetic student asks his professor, “Is there any difference in trying but failing, and simply failing to try – if you end up in the same place anyway?” He was attempting to justify taking the safe route; never really taking a stand or trying anything big. What do you think? Do you cringe at trying something big because of the possibility of failure?

Getting to the Nitty Gritty of Your Solution
It is quite ridiculous to go about creating a solution by attacking many different angles at once. There should be no more than two parts of a puzzle that get your attention when putting out a fire or giving your business a complete overhaul. There is the inner focus and outer focus.

Be Who You Are
The hidden message in every fairytale can teach us a very valuable lesson. The frog was already a prince. The princesses were already princesses. All they were waiting for was a touch of magic to enable them to reveal their true selves. Just like every one of us, these fictitious characters were all born perfect but their true beauty became obscured and compromised by life. You don’t need magic to become who you already are. You only need to accept the perfection of your self.

Executive Blind Spots
Blind spots can severely impact an executive's strategic vision, their course of action, and their rate of success. They impact decision-making and creativity (or lack thereof) in solving problems and they act to limit the strategic initiatives we are willing to consider. They even affect how we relate to others - hampering our leadership effectiveness, our political adeptness, and our executive presence.

Do the Opposite....
I have never been a fan of "normal.” Even as a little kid I was drawn to things that were different. I wanted a bicycle that stood out from the crowd – not more expensive or even better – just different. I built my first car from the ground up so I could have something that would stand out. I moved on to college options that were different, completing bachelors and masters degrees with no debt.

Have You Been Thinking About Throwing In The Towel?
I have a confession to make. I’m going to lay it out there so that you can learn from my misperception. I had a 1:1 private session with my own coach. As with my client’s, my coach had me fill out my progress form before the session.

Use Gratitude to Create a Happier and More Successful Life
If we want to achieve happiness and success in life, it is essential that we make expressions of gratitude a part of our everyday existence. People who are grateful tend to be more fulfilled and happier. Therefore, we should show gratitude on a daily basis. To be successful in life, people need to remain focused on their goals. Through developing an attitude of gratitude we learn to express good and therefore to see good.

Where else can you provide your child with so many skills for success in one place?
How much potential do you see in your child? We know that all loving parents see great things in their child’s future. We believe that this potential in every child is real, as long as it is nurtured correctly. Many people might suggest public school, but do you really feel that school will give your child the discipline they need to take advantage of academic opportunities? Give them a head start on their peers by enrolling them in a curriculum based martial-arts program such as ours.

Garnering respect in others
Sometimes it's not what you do, but how you do it which brings acknowledgement and success your way. Understanding the idea of respect can play a major role in your ability to obtain it. Take this article as a stimulus for thought on the matter.

How and Why You Should Take Your Business Seriously
Whatever your online business is, you simply MUST take it seriously if you are to be successful, you must treat it as a business, NOT a hobby, have a plan, know what you need to do and how much you need to make. You must also reinvest as much as you possibly can, especially in the beginning.

RETENTION OF STAFF
Why is retention of staff such an issue these days? Surely staff are lucky enough to be employed in a full time job without you having to worry about whether or not you’re going to keep them? Retention of staff is an issue that should be ranked priority number one. Regardless of the current economy - we do not have enough skilled staff with the appropriate skill base to fill all the available jobs – and it’s not going to improve. Simply put, the workforce growth rate is declining. In the long run there will be more jobs than workers. The future will be that there is increased competition for fewer qualified workers, which will necessitate an enormous emphasis on the need to retain the workers we already have.

We cannot change it, hopefully we have learned some lessons from it and are ready to roll forward. Ready to hit the road running with strong and totally driven “persistence”.

Ring in the New Year with Intention
Studies have shown that many people start off the New Year with resolutions, and by the third week into January, they've already "blown it" and have given up on striving toward those goals.

It's You or Them but Somebody Needs to Fix It
If you’ve ever had an issue getting rockstar results from the people you hire or partner with, you’re not alone. The very best place to start focusing your energy to improve any situation with your team is on yourself. With a little intentional focus and some patience, you can turn any team into a success.

How to Achieve Success When You Miss an Opportunity
On November 5 when the Alabama-Crimson Tide played the LSU-Tigers, Alabama had many missed opportunities; they missed four field goals. These missed field goals proved critical since LSU ultimately won by three points. Losing by such a narrow margin made the pain of missing the field goals hurt even more. We have all experienced missed opportunities. However, it is important to keep playing the game. When you fumble or make a mistake, you have to think like a football player and concentrate on the next play. Instead of continuing to focus on the fumbles, it is important to concentrate on the recoveries you can make.

16 Rules for Business and Life Success
I have worked with many companies to discover and live their culture and values. One set of rules that I have found to be particularly powerful and challenging are those of Bob Parsons, founder of the number one domain registration firm, GoDaddy.com (recently sold for $2.25 billion). Although you may have seen them before, they are always worth the 3 minutes it takes to run down the list - they'll give you a huge boost of enthusiasm with all the talk of doom and gloom.

I refer to these attributes as the PAULA(sm) Guide to Success.

Five Attributes that Lead to Exceptional Customer Service
As a business owner, I have developed a keen sense of the attributes of people who are highly motivated as well as those qualities that lead to counter productive behavior. Regardless of the industry, customer service is key to the success of your business. Unfortunately, there are many examples of people whose poor customer service has been memorable: people who have left us on hold and forgotten about us, waitresses who never return to our table, the customer service person who leaves us on the phone for several minutes. We all have experienced poor customer service at some level. This article illustrates how Five Attributes Can Lead to Exceptional Customer Service. I refer to them as the PAULA(sm) Customer Service Success Program.

How Disasters Can Teach Lessons of Gratitude
In the world today, we encounter a lot of negativity, pain, stress and natural disasters. Many days, we wake up with far too much to do, far too much to think about, far too many concerns, and far too many problems. In Virginia where I live, in the span of less than one week, we experienced a "terrible triad:" an earthquake, a tornado and Hurricane Irene; three major natural disasters capable of causing devastation, tragedies, and causalities. So many of us went through life's inconveniences facing another triad of problems: no lights, no air-conditioning, no television. Having witnessed three natural disasters in one week has made me readily come to believe that it is a good idea to start each day with inspiration and gratitude to help us make it through the day with positive thoughts. This helps to remain focused on your goals.

The Benefits of Doing Something Uncomfortable
Good things in life come to those who take risks. If you avoid any new experiences then you are missing out on the best that life has to offer. The longer that you wait, procrastinate, or cower in fear, the more “comfortable” you are getting with the status quo…and that’s not a very fun place to be.

Success Means Doing What You Do Best
Do what you do best. How many of us try and do everything instead of doing what we do best? A great line I picked up from the biography of Steve Jobs. If it wasn't for Steve, Woz's great innovation would just be in a hobby shop some place. I want you to really think about that. Woz was the expert engineer, but Steve was the expert marketer. Each did what they did best. The result of course is history – Apple. The point we need to take with us today is simply this – we need to let our people do what they are really good at and find someone else to do what they are not very good at. By doing this we create tremendous unbelievable success.

The power of a group
January 18th would have been Benjamin Franklin’s birthday. Now there’s a guy who saw opportunities that others did not. Ben invented the lightning rod, bifocals, the Franklin stove, the odometer, and the glass armonica. He formed both the first public library and the first fire department in Pennsylvania.

Each week, Geoff interviewed key people from the worlds of business, spirituality, technology, finance and the arts on what realism meant to them and how it impacted on their lives and businesses.

Fail More Often
I often like to take an extreme position on topics to stimulate helpful discussions where we share various points of view. The title of this article sounds ridiculous. We all would rather have success than failure in anything we do. My point in this article is whether we need to put a higher value on failures than we typically do.

Speed Limits Do Not Reflect Your Capacity
When looking at cars, we all know that speed limits do not really reflect the capacity of how fast our cars can go. They are simply the law of how fast we are allowed to drive without running the risk of getting a ticket. Most of us drive cars with a capacity far beyond what the speed limit is. The same is true in our lives and the same is true about us. Most of us have a capacity far beyond the speed limit that we have imposed on ourselves. Far beyond the speed limit we have put on our business and career. What happens when we look at our capacity? Start to understand what we can really do. Look at all the talent, ability and gifts God gave us? .

Confidence
If you don't have confidence you're dead in the water.

Smart Women And The Fear of Commitment
In my work supporting women entrepreneurs, I find fear of commitment in business can make the difference between mediocre results and extraordinary results. Here are some tips to help you commit and get your ideal clients.

Only A Level Players Need Apply
“A” level players want to work with other “A” level players. It makes them better, stronger and even more productive. So, the question is how much time and energy and effort do we spend trying to make “B” level players into “A” level players? How much success have we had? How about instead today we make a commitment to go out and start finding and bringing in“A” level players.

Change Your Job Search Strategy If...
You have often heard the saying, “If you always do what you have always done, you will continue getting what you have always gotten”, or something close. If that sounds like you and your job search or your career, then you may want to reconsider your strategy, regardless of your status or what stage of the job search game you are at.

Sir Alan Sugar Begins to Build a Dynasty
Sir Alan Sugar did not begin his life on top of the world, he had to push and claw his way there. One of Britain's top businessmen, Sugar started out by selling car antennas, electronics out of the back of a van, but would build one of the largest electronics companies in Great Britain. People sometimes wonder how that business got started.

Lesson #1: Always be Selling
Sir Alan Sugar did not develop his marketing techniques by chance, he began noticing what people needed at an early age. In an interview with the Daily Mail in 2009, Sugar was quoted as saying, “I came from an environment where I had to succeed. Kids today are not as hungry as I was. They don't understand how tough my generation was.”

Lesson #2: Negotiate to Make More Sales
Sir Alan Sugar had to learn how to negotiate from an early age. The skills came naturally to him when he was only 12-years-old and working in a bakery on Saturday mornings. Sugar claimed later in his autobiography that those negotiating skills learned in his early jobs made him an “all-rounder” in business.

Lesson #3: Never Expect Your Products to Remain the Market Leader
One thing Sir Alan Sugar learned about business early on was that competitors will do everything they can to steal your ideas and try to improve it or sell it cheaper. He would say in an interview with the New York Times, “If there was a market in mass-produced portable nuclear weapons, we'd market them, too.”

Lesson #4: Price Points Make You Money
Sir Alan Sugar developed an easy formula for the company he started in 1968, Amstrad. That formula would be called “price points.” It was so popular that several industries still use it today. This formula innovation would make Sugar say about himself, “I don't think too many people would want my job. I'm a bit of a Nutter.”

Lesson #5: Gain Experience in Your Trade
“Entrepreneur is not a word to be used lightly, and it’s certainly not something you call yourself. It should be a term used by a person when describing another’s abilities,” Sir Alan Sugar said in his autobiography. Sugar believes that people are born to be an entrepreneur or they are born to do something else.

Reaching the Pinnacle of Success: How Sir Alan Sugar Succeeded in Business
“I came from an environment where you had to succeed,” said Sir Alan Sugar during an interview with Jan Moir of the Daily Mail in March of 2009. “There was no wealth or anything like that in my family. Not that we were paupers, But we had to fend for ourselves. Kids today are not as hungry as I was. They don't understand how tough my generation was.”

How Well Do You Follow Your Plan?
You start your day at 7AM, energized, motivated, excited and by 830 you are crazy, off course and in total reactive mode and you stay there the rest of the day? Can you relate. I love to use the pinball story. Do you feel like the little silver ball in the pinball machine, getting shot up into the game, bouncing from one bumper to the next, rolling down the slot, getting flipped way up and finally just running into the hole. Or, do you control the process, your day, your life, your business. Doing what you said you would when you said you would the way you said you would?

Believe in lack and difficulty and life will oblige by supplying ample opportunities to experience lack and difficulty. Change your mind, raise your expectations and adjust your beliefs and see what happens to your experiences. It really is that simple!

Choose Your Battles and Listen: Greg Foster
In an interview, Greg Foster explained that for movie directors to go from average to great, they need to have the humility to choose their battles and the humility to listen to advice. His advice is not limited to the movie industry, but instead applies to any leadership position.

The Cost of Loss
When your life is led by the fear of loss your capacity for experiencing all the joy, happiness and success that is yours by right is severely limited.

Personal Leadership and the Inner Work of Success
Personal Leadership takes practice and is vitally important if you are to live a life that is authentically meaningful, contented and expressive of your most natural self. How we assume a leadership role in our lives can take many forms. The one I’m focusing on in this e-zine is what I call the Inner Work of Success. This is the practice of developing a relationship with your inner world, to get to know and understand how your mind works, what your heart is telling you and to really LISTEN to that still small voice that is the truth of who you are.

What McDonalds can teach us about Adaptability
Charles Darwin said 'it's not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.' McDonalds has woken up to the fact that 'Business as Usual' is no longer relevant.

Success is Right Here, Right Now
Don’t content your self with the promise of tomorrow’s success when success is present for you right now and awaiting your release of your own true self. Step by step take ownership of what you are.

Boldness, Commitment and Success!
What was your last idea that you put aside? Was it something that came to you in the small hours of the morning? Did you write it down, think on it, expand on the possibilities, dream of the results and then lose your nerve? Later did you see that someone had the same idea and acted upon it, and the idea grew into a huge business? How often have you lost your nerve, or after stepping out, lost the commitment to make it work?

Working Harder vs. Working Happier: What Research Tells Us about Success
The latest research proves it: hard work may lead to some success, but success doesn’t lead to happiness. Happiness is what leads to real success, and happiness, in business, means focusing more on what you do best, and making the most of your natural skills and abilities.

Sales is Like Fishing
When we go selling we have prepared We have selected the right place. We have the right product/service and technique. We have read and practiced and gotten great. We are going to close the deal.

Don’t Wait for Perfect…..
One of the beauties of today’s workplace is that we can just get in the game and then refine our business as we go. The unfinished and imperfect business, book, website, house, job, garden, or fashion design is a starting point. Releasing a trial version can be an act of transparency – and an invitation to customers and friends to help complete and improve it.

The 5% Challenge
I am very intentional about my use of time, working from a schedule that I create weeks in advance. But that does not mean that I work head down for 8 hours without taking a break. I once worked with a high-level financial executive that told me for 26 years at his previous company he had worked “head down, pencil up.” And he was dreadfully out of touch with currents trends and opportunities.

Goals & Plans
Are Goals and Plans Cosmic Laws?

Success is Measured Between the Lines
Growing up, I often heard from my parents, teachers, and coaches, that I could be anything that I wanted to be, that success was within my grasp if I put my mind to it, worked and studied hard. “THINK BIG,” they said. I could be an accountant, lawyer, CEO, doctor, pilot, professional football player (my idea), ________ (you fill in the blank). Magazines, newspapers, radio and television screamed out and reinforced the idea that to be successful I had to own a big home, live in the best neighbourhood, drive a big car(s), eat at the best restaurants, join the best clubs, have season tickets to the theatre, travel to exotic climates.

Hit the Jackpot with a Book, New Product/Service Launch or Grand Opening
When you have a grand vision of your book hitting best seller status or the new product launch making thousands upon its release, self imposed pressure to ‘knock it out of the ballpark’ can be hazardous to your success. It can also be hazardous to your health. I’ve even seen how the stress can negatively impact the overall success of an entire business.

Are You Thinking Too Small?
Great success is about believing that you can do so much more. It is about taking the limits off and letting yourself go after what you really want with a belief you will get it. We have become a nation that settles for less than we can have – thinking way to small. We have allowed the tough times to make us think smaller instead of bigger. We have allow the world to hold us back. We have slowed our thinking so we all are thinking small – that way everyone can keep up.

4 Easy Steps to Shift Your Unhealthy Money Mantras

How to Succeed at Work: Does Your FACE Send a Positive Message?
What does your FACE say about you? Are you wearing a face of success? Facial expressions are a part of everyday living that send vital messages to those around us. As a physician who treats many patients who are in pain, I can readily tell how patients feel by looking at their faces. Certainly, when people are in pain, their facial expressions depict how they feel. Literally, their face lets me know that they hurt. What messages does your face send?

The “adjacent possibility”
A few years ago biologist and researcher Stuart Kauffman came up with a term he called “the adjacent possible.” It’s a complex theory but here’s a simple way to look at it. Think of being in a house that magically expands with every door you open. You walk into a room and see three more doors leading out. Once you open one of those doors you enter another room with another three doors leading to yet new rooms. Keep opening doors and eventually you’ll realize you’re in an expanding palace.

That dog won’t hunt
Here we are at the end of March already. As farmers we also used to cite, “Red in the morning, sailors warning; red at night, sailors delight.”
