The state of BDS provision in Tanzania is not well known. A 2003 SME-Mapping of Tanzania report concluded that existing BDS services are generally designed and financially supported by donors for the micro-enterprise market (and thus, are very basic), or are offered by professional consulting firms at high prices.

The National Microfinance Bank of Tanzania helps Bail out the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) with a USD 56million Loan
The National Microfinance Bank of Tanzania has joined a syndicate of local banks and pension funds to lend USD 238million to Tanesco, the parastatal electricity company, wholly owned by the Tanzanian government, money which will be used to pay off debts to suppliers and invest in new equipment. The National Microfinance Bank was founded in 1997, and is the third most profitable bank in Tanzania, holding USD 430million in deposits and assets. The loan to Tanesco supports NMB’s business interests, as well as those of its customers, as it organises collection services for the electricity firm via its network. Currently the Tanzanian government owns 51% of the bank, having sold off the remainder of its stake in 2005. The loan syndicate involved in the bail out includes five banks and four pension funds all from Tanzania.

A Matter of Trust
Trust is the basis for all successful leaders and all successful relationships for that matter. You cannot buy trust, but it is free. Trust is priceless yet can be earned over time. To overcome some initial disagreement and expedite the decision making process, you might resort to “Hey, just trust me!” That statement is worthless. Either the other party already trusted you based on your past actions or they did not trust you and your request won’t change that. Trust is not spoken, it is demonstrated. Trust cannot be requested, it must be earned.

Ten Hallmarks of a High Trust Organization
We tend to think of trust in one dimension, but there are several different ways trust plays out in organizations. My favorite definition of trust is that when I trust someone, it means I believe he or she will always do what is thought to be in my best interest (even if I do not particularly appreciate it at the time). We can contrast some dimensions of trust by considering what it is like to work in an organization with high trust versus one with low trust on several dimensions

Degrees of Trust
Trust is an interesting word. We tend to think of it as a singular concept, like how much do I trust my boss at the moment. I believe there are numerous different types of trust in our lives, and in any trust situation, there are infinite levels of trust. That complexity is one of the reasons why high trust is hard to find in many organizations.
