How do Churches Cope with the Recession?
Some scoffers find it hard to believe that churches not only get through hard times but that they actually grow in members and tithes and “donations” from existing church members. The press has always been antagonistic towards the Christian church so what I say here will probably be fodder for some good laughs for non-believers, but I will say it anyway. It is not their favor that I seek.

To start thinking like a rich person does, you need to start small. Save a dollar, invest a dollar, and give away a dollar every day - make it a priority. You'll be amazed at how quickly your mind changes, and how quickly you start accumulating some cash!

Give a Little Bit
Do you know the quickest way to build your financial empire? It's not by saving, investing, or getting a second job. Nor is it by anything dishonest or unethical. It's by giving, sharing, or tithing. That's right, giving money to organizations, and causes that you value personally, especially those in your own community, is the fastest way for prosperity to grow.

Tithing By Giving You WILL Receive
In the book "The One Minute Millionaire", Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen discuss proven techniques and provide useful tools (in the form of Ahas), for becoming an Enlightened Millionaire (TM). One of the Ahas is about tithing, or "sharing the wealth" in layman terms. Tithing is when a monetary donation (typically a tenth of one's income or tithe) is made to a charity and/or church. Enlightened Millionaires follow two rules of thought regarding tithing. First, that abundance comes from making others better off. Second, the primary reason for obtaining wealth is to be able to give more of it away. In fact, Enlightened Millionaires DO commit to tithe the first 10% of their income.

You Can't Out Give God
I'm a big believer in the power of tithing as taught by Edwene Gaines in The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity. In her model you tithe 10% of your income to those people, places or institutions who have fed you spiritually. They've inspired you, helped you to remember who you are. By giving in this way, you acknowledge God as the Source, and the more I've experimented with this practice the more I've become convinced that, try as we might, we cannot out give God.

Give Something Back
A great philosopher once said, whatever you want more of, give it away. The best way to ensure an ongoing flow of abundance into your life is to share with others the wealth you receive. I am a big believer in tithing -- giving away 10% of your income to your church and favorite charities. I believe that it does indeed come back multiplied. This has been demonstrated in my life and the lives of Chicken Soup for the Soul readers over and over again.
