| |
| Wozniak and Jobs first met in their high school computer club, Homebrew Computer Club, where, says Wozniak, they created a unique balance together: “I was shy, he was outward.” As the two worked together on Apple, this would morph into a new kind of relationship. “I created, he sold,” says Wozniak.

What is happening to credibility in the online world?
| |
| Anybody can now post an article online. Anybody can become an expert, or be perceived to be an expert. Not much of the old credibility stamp is left. After all would you necessarily believe somebody to have a doctorate just by a few bits of the alphabet being stated after their name, when one can buy any degree online? |

An Inside Look at The Steve Jobs Way
| |
| We know we don't often talk to you about book reviews but then it is seldom we read a book that is of widespread interest to our mutual audiences.
As we note we're not Apple/Jobs fanboys but OMG we respect what they've done and in fact we're "a little" envious that they:
- seem to do it so well so consistently
- get more coverage by "accident" than the rest of us get by working hard for it
Several years ago we were in a meeting at HP and asked the product manager who they tracked most closely and listed off the usual PC suspects. They surprised us by saying no they watched Apple very closely. They do it right 90++% of the time and when they missed they really missed and recovered so quickly they didn't seem to miss a step. So even then they were the ones to watch...today its even more mandatory.

Even the US is Losing it Intellectual Capital
| |
| The land to which people immigrated for its educational and employment opportunities is losing an increasing number of potential citizens. In 1991, 1.82 million people immigrated to the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Immigration Statistics. By 2000, that figure had dropped to 849,807. Although it was back up some to 1.06 million in 2002, it had dropped again to 705,827 by the end of the 2003 fiscal year. |

| |
| I recently posed a question on the importance of Multiple Supply Chain Networks which, within a matter of several hours, elicited 14 responses from around the world.
And while the majority of respondents felt that the findings from an ISM, CAPS and AT Kearney 2006 report were not indicative of general market sentiments, it nonetheless has proven to be an issue that is of considerable interest to supply chain professionals and academics.
As a result, over the next week I will share the answers as well as corresponding discussion tracks starting today with the response from a Senior Director Supply Chain Operations in the Apparel & Fashion Industry in the United States.

Sales a Strategic Boardroom Issue
| |
| Long the corporate stepchild, sales has largely been ignored by academics and many executives. However in increasingly competitive markets and increasingly sophisticated buyers a top notch sales force is no longer a nice to have but a must have. Assessing a Business Model
| |
| Traditionally, business models have been assessed in a subjective manner by entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, bankers, and academics. No one really understood or studied what made a great business model great. Like good art, they simply knew it when they saw it. Many times, these wise business people were correct in their assessment of a business model. However, we figured there had to a more scientific method to decide whether a business model was strong or weak. |

Change Management is an Oxymoron
| |
| A dubious consulting industry and "profession" has developed, claiming to provide "change management" services. Those two words make about as much sense together as "holy war", "non-working mother", "mandatory option", and "political principles". Many of the books, models, theories, and "processes" on change have come from staff support people, consultants, or academics who've never built a business or led an organization. |
