How Not To Impress People
| |
| I answer my own phone. I always have. If I’m sitting at my desk working on something and my phone rings I’ll usually pick it up, even if I don’t recognize the phone number. I know this doesn’t fit the “be hyper-productive” method of life, but I like the randomness of it. |

How To Cold Call Effectively: What To Say First
| |
| “When prospecting via phone and the contact picks up, do you ask for their time? Or do you go into your spiel?” This question was asked on Linkedin and below is my public answer: This is a great question and there are many ways to approach this. | I was working with a client recently who asked "Can you help me find better people?" That's not something I've done in the past for clients even though it's a skill I could apply...so I said "yes".
What I find fascinating - even today in 2011, is how many companies are still tolerating "terribly bad behavior" in their employees. There is absolutely no reason to do that - and especially now when there are so many good people out of work who are begging for the opportunity to tie their talent to your company.
So what am I seeing...
1. Horrible phone skills. It's almost a laziness on the phone. When calling companies to check out their phone skills, the worst ones either act like I'm bothering them by placing the call, or have no incentive to find the answer to the question I ask. How to Click with People on the Phone
| |
| Telephone. Tell a phone. There are times when I get the feeling I’m talking to a phone instead of over the phone. Incoming telemarketing calls don’t allow for meaningful connections.
