Cell phones...Conveniently dangerous
April 3rd,2009 marked the 36th anniversary of the cellphone. A man named Martin Cooper placed the first call ever on a cell phone when he was at Motorola, as Gen. Mgr.Communications Div. The first cell phone was the size of we remember a satellite telephone looking like. How far we have come since then! Today, you can fit a cell phone in the palm of your hand(try that with a satellite phone. Today, billions of cell phones are in use worldwide, from your urban cities to the most remote corners of the world. Cell phones are very convenient. Perhaps too convenient. Many accident fatalities on the road are attributable to drivers talking while they drive. Even pedestrians are oblivious as they cross the streets, yapping away on their cells. Don't lose your head as you use this technological marvel called the cell phone....stay tuned.

Social Media: A Highly Effective Tool for Non-Profits
This article talks to those who operate a non-profit organization (or work with them). The topic is about Social Media and how to use it effectively to create a community to increase donations. Social Media is yet another tool that we can use as part of our overall marketing strategy.

Don't be a Scrooge. Charitable giving is critical to your community and business
For the business owner, charitable giving can be a challenging subject in business planning. How much to give? Who to give to? Can we give each year even if our company isn't doing as well as before due to the recessionary economic environment? Many questions have to be resolved. But making a commitment to annual charitable donations and involvement and standing by it -- for your community and your employees -- can be immensely rewarding.

Registered charities perform valuable work in our communities.
Donations in the form of cash or gifts in kind made to a registered charity or other qualified donees may reduce your taxes. A list of registered charities is provided on CRA's website. The receipt for your gift should include the value of the consideration given. If you receive something in return such as an event ticket, for example, you must deduct the value of this "advantage", as CRA calls it, from the eligible amount of your donation. The other important thing to keep in mind is that your donation receipt should include the registration number of the charity. Otherwise, it is not an official donation receipt for tax purposes.

How do Churches Cope with the Recession?
Some scoffers find it hard to believe that churches not only get through hard times but that they actually grow in members and tithes and “donations” from existing church members. The press has always been antagonistic towards the Christian church so what I say here will probably be fodder for some good laughs for non-believers, but I will say it anyway. It is not their favor that I seek.

Radiology Job Outlook
Highly paid Radiologists may not generate much sympathy but their world may be changing. The constant rise in their salaries seems to have hit a wall and indeed due to some changes in reimbursement rates they may actually have fallen recently. Health care reform and the recession are already impacting the bottom line negatively. Last year, U.S. hospitals saw more patients without insurance or the ability to pay their hospital bills. Bad debt has risen while donations have fallen.

Why Getting Head Lice Is the Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me
Thanks to donations from my readers, seven Guatemalan students will go to high school, three villages have school supplies, one has a new refrigeration system for soy milk, 60 villagers ate meat, and 140 kids got ice cream. I also think I have lice, but I couldn't be happier!

3 Ways to Organize a Charity Campaign with Promotional Fundraising
Why are charity fundraisers beneficial to businesses? Companies gain credibility when fundraising for charitable causes, especially when charity promotional products are used. Promotional advertising is effective for promotions like dinner fundraisers, sponsorships, gift donations, and community events because both the nonprofit organization and the business receive exposure.

What’s the difference between a member, a client and a customer?
What’s in a name? Well, there seems to be some confusion in the market place around the terminology used to describe those people who pay us money for goods, services, experiences, donations, etc. Different industries can have different terms for the consumers of their products and/or services. We see terms such as customer, client, patient, guest, patron, member, subscriber, donor, etc. used to describe a person who buys our products or services and intends to use them directly. In short, these terms are referring to the same person – the ‘end user’. However, not everyone ‘consumes’ our products or services or is the intended ‘end user’. Some people or businesses buy our products or services to ‘on sell’ them to another party, often the final end user, but not always.

No One Leaves a Good Movie...Not Even A Company Movie
Tellywood is falling all over itself trying to get their content online and make money in the process. They should take a hint from the kids who have put their music, acting, game content online. They've received donations, gathered regular followers and gotten job offers, jobs. While folks fiddle around with their Facebook, Google + and other like/hate pages because they don't have a big budget; others have taken the DIY approach and produced product, application, case study videos and thrown them up on the web to produce company/product interest, sales. If you can afford it, use a professional to help you get your video story out there. If you're on a Ramon Noodle budget see how you can do it yourself. Just tell the story...quickly!
