Dealing with a bad attitude can only realistically be accomplished by dealing with a person’s behavior. They have no doubt already been told about their bad attitude, so if you start the conversation with “I need to talk to you about your attitude,” they already have tuned you out. Concentrate instead on the “specific behaviors” you have observed, which come across to you and others as an attitude problem.

How to identify your companys marketing problems
During one of my recent seminars, an attendee took issue with my use of the word “problem”. It seems he’d been trained to call them “opportunities” instead, and felt that using the word problem was negative. Now, I’m all for putting a positive spin on things, but in my mind problems are something we grow up with. Can you imagine how some of our day-to-day expressions might change if we substituted “opportunity” for “problem”? For example: “Johnny, I’ve got an opportunity with your attitude.” “Susie, please finish your math opportunities.” “He’s a real opportunity in the classroom.”

Are You Crisis-Minded or Opportunity-Minded
Today, the economic boom has gone. What’s your attitude? Are you thinking “doom and gloom”? Or are you thinking “hidden opportunity”? I believe our attitude and thoughts are a bigger problem than the external economy. An African proverb states it well: “It’s hard to fight an enemy who has outposts in your mind.”

The Empire Strikes Back?
This week I came across the expression ‘Vigilante Consumer’ for the first time. It seems that consumers are starting to strike back at companies that make it difficult to deal with them when they have a problem. You know what I mean? They have the attitude that they are perfect or at least doing the best that is physically possible to be done and you have a problem that shows a mistake has been made or that the system has failed. You want to explain the problem and nobody listens!

I often wonder about whether attitude is gratitude, or if gratitude is attitude. Actually, I think it is both. If your attitude is positive, more than likely you are thankful for everything that you have. And, if you are grateful for what you have, that says a great deal about your attitude. In either case, being grateful is positive, and it can have a huge influence on how you approach life and deal with daily issues. This article provides some tips on embracing gratitude, which will help you to develop and maintain a positive attitude.
