The Richest Man In History: Rockefeller is Born
When John D. Rockefeller was a young boy, he said that his two greatest ambitions were to make $100,000 and to live to be 100 years old. He died on May 23, 1937, just 26 months shy of his 100th birthday and with a net worth of $1.4 billion.

Memo to the very small
What should my local chiropractor do? Or the acupuncturist? Or the pet store? What about that small church or mosque?

Lesson #4: Cutting Costs Can Save Your Company
Penney was born and raised on a small Missouri farm. His father, a Baptist minister, was a well-respected member of the community. But, as it was an unsalaried position, the family rarely had the wealth to accompany that status. As a result, Penney grew up in a household that stressed the importance of self-reliance and self-discipline, especially when it came to financial matters. Penney took that attitude with him into the business world. Indeed, much of Penney’s success can be attributed to his willingness to penny pinch wherever he needed to.

Avenue A Razorfish 2008 Digital Outlook Report

In the report experts cover topics such as media spending, mobile web usage, social influence marketing, the state of search, and behavior targeting. Here are some tidbits from the report:

The Attitude of Gratitude
Humbly grateful or gratefully humble? In a recent sermon Dr. Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas points out that each person in his or her lifetime will cultivate either an attitude or spirit of thanksgiving, gratitude and thankfulness, or an attitude or life as a cynic, full of anger, bitterness and arrogance. He expands on this by pointing out that a grateful child, by-and-large, is far more likely to be a happy child. He also says a person who is hostile, angry and critical, who is a fault-finder, is basically an ungrateful person.

Many Churches do Not Have the Proper Insurance
Being a member of a Church that is improperly insured can lead to a catastrophic outcome if a lawsuit occurs. Concerns arise for Church Insurance, Religious Organization Insurance, Pastoral Liability and Institutional Insurance, regardless of sect. A lawsuit of any size or nature can cripple a religious organizations existence in exorbitant legal fees.

From Boxing to Business: How Foreman Won the Final Rounds
“I told a reporter in 1977 when I made my re-entry into boxing – I stood next to the church, it’s called the Church of Lord Jesus Christ. He asked me what I wanted in the future. I said, 20 years from today to be standing right there in front of that sign being the same human being I am today and you know what, I’ve been successful,” says Foreman. “20 years from today I still want to be that same guy speaking to you, happy, proud of what happened to me. I don’t have anything bad to say about anyone. I have great things to say about my country. I have a beautiful wife who has given me a wonderful family and wonderful kids, so we’re all pretty good. George is fine.”

How do Churches Cope with the Recession?
Some scoffers find it hard to believe that churches not only get through hard times but that they actually grow in members and tithes and “donations” from existing church members. The press has always been antagonistic towards the Christian church so what I say here will probably be fodder for some good laughs for non-believers, but I will say it anyway. It is not their favor that I seek.

Identifying Potential Leaders
I want in on that ability. I think God is seeing that potential in our church today, but He often uses me and leaders like me to find them.

Does Recession Hinder Churches?
When people are hurting financially, spiritually, grieving a loss, and going through other hard times, they will often turn to the church for guidance even if they are not church-goers. Most churches have benevolence committees and funds used to help the needy year round but from Thanksgiving on through the holidays, more requests come in for help than any other time of year. With the recession, churches are being hard hit for assistance. Some churches have food pantries, clothes closets; some can help with power bills, pay for medicine and other ways in which the needy require and request help. When church members are hurting from similar experiences, their church families will surround them with love and whatever assistance they might need. My church in the past has paid my heating bill because I got laid off and needed help.
