Optimizing E-mail: Stay Productive, Not Busy
| |
| Does email boost or hinder your performance? It all depends on how you use it.
Email offers us countless ways to save time and be more productive, but when we go on “email autopilot” – checking the inbox repeatedly, typing out messages that should be discussed, copying people who are only peripherally involved, and other bad habits we’ve picked up along the way – email can make us more busy than productive.

1 Real Tip for Work-Life Balance When Putting Kids to Sleep
| |
| One of the advantages of having a child that's 31 and one that's 8 is that I have different sets of parent/friends. And the way we raised or managed kids 20 years ago has certainly changed from today. What I find about parents with small children today is that they've almost become a maintenance issue. It's all we can do to pick them up from daycare, rush home, feed their faces, wash their bodies, throw them in bed and start the process all over the next day. I actually know lots of parents who tuck their children into bed with a quick kiss and video.
We can take advantage of the little time that we do have and get a big return on that investment at the end of every day. How do we do that? Create Bedtime Rituals....Tuck ‘em in!
Most people think they don't have the time to tucks kids in properly but if you'll get an eggtimer you'll |

Time is the New Currency
| |
| In today's frantic world of double income parents and internet/cell phone access that keeps us within easy reach, it seems that work is competing for more and more of our time. We take business calls during our child's bedtime story, carry our laptops along with us on vacation, and learn to multi-task dinner prep with client projects.
But despite this perceived "efficiency," we must ask ourselves: is our productivity really increasing? Or are we just busying ourselves, running from here to there, juggling too many priorities and compromising our standards as we do so? Through all the rushing and ticking off of items on our never ending to-do list, we can't help but sense that the boundaries between work and private life are all but evaporating.

Stories to Tell
| |
| Stories are a powerful way to communicate. As little children we eagerly hopped into bed in anticipation of a great bedtime story. As school age children we would compete to see how many novels we could read in one summer away from school and homework. Then as we became adults, we dropped those habits and lost the pleasure the stories gave us. |
