It Takes Teamwork to Make a Company Dream Work
| |
| Almost everyone works in a team, but very few ever seem to achieve happiness and success from it. This always amazes me. Let's face it; if you want to be a successful engineer, you study engineering. If you want to be a successful cook, you study cooking. And if you want to be a successful person in a team, you must study success in team building. |

Blind Spots
| |
| In my classes and consulting work on leadership, I often discuss the concept of a blind spot where the worst leaders are often blissfully unaware of their problems. My own observation in numerous organizations is that this is abundantly true. Hr Managers and subordinates are often frustrated at not being able to communicate how leaders undermine the very cause they wish to pursue due to this blindness.
Daniel Goleman, who invented Emotional Intelligence, observed that leaders who are most deficient in EI are the ones who have the biggest blind spot. They simply cannot see themselves as others do, so they are deceived into thinking incorrect thoughts about how they are coming across.
How can you remove the blind spot of a leader who has low Emotional Intelligence?
My own ideas on this topic are contained in this article.

The Role Of Pharmacoepigenomics In Health

| Pharmacogenomics is the scientific study of how the human genes affect a person’s reactions to drugs. This new science combines pharmacology and genomics to come up with effective and safe medications and dosages that will be custom-formulated to a person’s genetic constitution. Productivity Improvement via Method study
| |
| There are a number of approaches to improving productivity: the best-known currently is probably ‘Lean’ but such approaches go back many years to the days of the early ‘productivity pioneers’.
Many people (and especially people of ‘a certain age’) will immediately think of ‘time and motion’ when asked to describe a productivity methodology. This refers to the early days of ‘work study’ when the aim (as it often still is today) is to reduce the time taken by, and the motion involved in, work.
The ‘improvement’ methodology of work study that derived from time & motion study was method study … and an understanding of method study gives a real insight into how all productivity improvement methodologies work.

Curiosity kills the cat but wins the customer
| |
| If you’re searching online for a blind date, you can narrow the field demographically to, let’s say, people between age 35 and 45 who live in Denver. And you can take a peek at the all-important photograph. But is that enough information to make even one valid assumption about someone? Before you commit to that blind date, you’ll want to know what kind of personality they have and what their interests and values are, among other things. That same kind of curiosity about your customers gives you a deep understanding of what they need or want-and serves as the basis for a passionate long-term relationship.
It may be time to add intellectual curiosity to the competencies you require in your sales, marketing and customer service staff, and embed curiosity in your company culture.
