Consumers carry their mobile devices everywhere they go, whether it be at the office desk or on the hiking trails. It can be very easy to lose, drop, break, or get your cell phone stolen in the blink of an eye. With the dependency on technology and what the cell phone provides, what protections do consumers have? We all think that the cell phone providers give us a cheap and easy way to replace or repair our cellular phones should we have a problem, but how many have actually used the cell phone insurance provided by mobile providers? |

New School Year: Lessons from a Middle Schooler
| |
| Today is the first day of school in Michigan and I am the new mom to a Middle Schooler!. Time has flown so quickly. It seems like just yesterday that I was holding him in the rocking chair in his room. I remember looking at his little legs and thinking to myself, “some day his legs will hang over mine when he sits on my lap. I can’t even imagine it.” And now here we are, it’s been years since he’s spent any time on my lap. His legs would almost hit the ground, all in the blink of an eye. Where has the time gone?
I watch with amazement as he heads off to Middle School with nothing more than anticipation. Hallways to maneuver, new school, way more kids, lockers and classes to find. His elementary school is nothing more than a fond memory and he is ready to move on. I am so proud of him today!

Home Based Business Fills the Gap in Canadian Recession
| |
| Home based business fill in the gap left by job insecurity during Canada's newest economic recession. Canadians have not suffered the job losses that workers in the USA are facing. Finding a job in Canada is far more difficult as companies look at cost saving and trimming expenses. Up to 31% of the workforce believes that either they, or someone they know, will be laid off in the coming months. Job security all but disappeared in Canada after the last recession in 1991. Employers wary of unpredictable economic conditions started outsourcing and contracting as many jobs as possible to trim costs. In the blink of an eye, the perception of job security was revealed as a very weak concept. Entrepreneurship is growing as more people prepare to start a home based business. |

Education + Infrastructure + Innovation
| |
| We're not certain if President Obama borrowed the ideas -- education, infrastructure, innovation - -from others or came up with his own hook for his state of the union speech but he did lay down the gauntlet. We do know government officials around the globe has laid down the challenge of innovation for their citizens. Every Csuite executive has told his/her stakeholders that the company will innovate and be competitive leaders. We'll talk about a lot of innovations before we get one that works. And innovation is going to take a long time to have a positive impact so let's not abandon it too soon.

The Generation Born Online is Changing Business Models
| |
|
We've read the dynamics of netbooks sweeping away notebooks...tablets sweeping away netbooks and notebooks...smartphones being in everyone's hands...the need for a device for every application. That's us. But for the work/entertainment tools you'll be using in 10/20 years from now...don't bother looking over the screen in the office. Don't check what cool folks are carrying. See what the little urchin rolling, crawling around at home gravitates to...look at the kids! They're just entering the communications arena. They use phone devices for anything/everything/everywhere.

My Boss is not My Brother
| |
| One of my coaching clients recently got a much wanted promotion. He was so beyond excited he felt like he was walking on air, for, oh for about a week.
Then he called and said "What did I do". Actually he used much more colorful language than that. He had gotten onto the most kick-ass team in the company, the place where new ideas magically become products in the blink of an eye, or so he thought.
Yet, at the same time he was promoted, so was another man who was now his boss. When he called to tell me his balloon was deflated and he was now dragging around on the ground, he was feeling bewildered. In only one week he saw his boss make blunder after blunder.

How Your Procurement Practices Affect Your Sales and Brand
| |
| Ethical selling and procurement (purchasing) is now in the spotlight. Harvey Norman’s recent publicity surrounding their supposed sourcing and use of Australian native old growth forest timbers in their Chinese made furniture has drawn light on retail procurement practices.
Procurement is now fairly and squarely in the spotlight and choices surrounding sourcing and distribution activities can have a dramatic effect on a company’s brand, reputation and sales revenue. |

Long Days and Short Years
| |
| When he was well past 90 years of age, my grandfather shared with me a lesson regarding having a sense of urgency about life. He observed that, when we are young, a day can go by in the blink of an eye, but a year seems like forever. We all can remember playing outside on a wonderful summer's day and then observing, as if by magic, somehow the entire day slipped away. But, at the same time, when we are young, the calendar can seem like eternity. The next birthday, Christmas, or the last day of school is impossibly distant.
