How to overcome writer’s block
I personally, sometimes, find it difficult to just START writing. Other times, ideas and what to actually write just come to me and my fingers simply cannot keep up with my thoughts. But writing simply doesn’t come naturally to me. I do have to work hard at it and, like many others, I suffer from the ‘staring into a blank piece of paper’ syndrome: the anxiety of the writer’s block.

How to stay focused when working from home
Twenty-nine years ago, I started my full-time career. I was studying for a Computer Science degree and I got bored! I dropped out. I decided to leave. I wanted to earn some money. I gave up the degree course. I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I just knew I didn’t want to go to college anymore. I visited the job centre for a few days. There was a job in the banking area of London. Right in the city of London. The job was for a Pensions Clerk.

Design a workable structure for your day
Following on from my recent post regarding the focus needed to work from home, once you understand what makes you tick and what your preferences are, you can design a workable structure for your day. The way you organise your day may be dictated by commitments relating to children or other responsibilities, so start with considerations like the school run, and build your day around them.

While working from home make the most of your time
Time management is one of the buzzwords of recent times and there is an infinite amount of information out there, in books, on the net, and in training courses. But it’s very simple – when you think about it, you can’t manage time at all. What you can do is manage yourself and prioritise the demands on your time. There’s a famous story about this. The details vary depending where you read it, but the basic principle is the same.

What can you do about Procrastination?
This is the big one for homeworkers, isn’t it? I think we all procrastinate to some extent. You put off something which you know you’ve got to do at some point, and which actually you could do straightaway. You put off to try and make more pleasant, but often end up making yourself feel stressed and guilty instead. There are many ways you can procrastinate and some of them masquerade as being helpful.

How good is your guarantee?
I only buy products and resources on-line when a guarantee of a refund is offered. If there is no refund guarantee in place, I don’t buy. Why? Because anyone can sell on-line. Anyone can create a product, build a sales page, start promoting, start selling and that product could be rubbish.

Do you know what you are Recommending?
It’s no secret I make money by recommending and selling other peoples products as an affiliate. I try to be as open as possible about that fact and I actually have an “Affiliate Disclosure” page. But I do have one strict rule. I only recommend products I have tried out and gained something from, myself. Not too long ago I received an email from someone who invited me to partake in a joint venture for a product that was converting at 12.5%.

The Dreaded Sales Phone Call
My mobile phone rang at 5pm last night. I looked at the number and didn’t recognise it but still answered it. “Hi it’s XXXX on behalf of Mike Filsaime. It’s your lucky day” “Why is it my lucky day?” “Well, Mike Filsaime wants to work with you” “Am I supposed to be impressed with that? Who the heck is Mike Filsaime? Never heard of him. Is he a spiritual leader?” Of course, I’ve heard of Mike but I’ve been on the end of these types of phone calls before, so I thought I would play with the guy.

Eliminate the Fear
What’s the biggest thing holding you back from taking your blogging business to the next level of success? In most cases, it’s not money. You don’t need much money to do this. In most cases, it’s not time. Everyone has the same amount of time in the day. If you have a couple of hours a day to invest in your business, you can do this (stop watching too much TV or whatever else you do with your time).

Want to do something different?

Now is a great time to start reflecting on 2009 and then invest some time on your plans for 2010. What are you going to achieve in 2010?

How is blogging good for a business?
There’s a shop, which has opened recently, very near to where I live. I pass it every day during my walks and not once have I seen a customer in there. Not once! The shop in question is a clothes hire shop. You can hire ball-gowns, dinner suits, kilts, wedding dresses…that sort of thing. I think they are in the wrong location but they need to start marketing and I think blogging would be a great way to start. They have a website. The domain name is underneath the shop front logo.

Web site optimization – how NOT to do it
Thanks to the massive amount of traffic pushed through search engines every day, competitive and forward thinking webmasters are doing all they can to push their websites to the top of the ranks. SEO (search engine optimization) has been a major part of internet marketing for the better part of a decade, but only recently has it truly come into its own as a true online industry. SEOs (search engine optimizers) have started offering their professional services, both as planners and technical employees, and some webmasters are seeing great results.

How to Guest Blog
Wondering what a guest blog is? In simple terms, a guest blog is when you write a blog post and post it on someone else’s blog. Doing this has its advantages like increasing traffic and blog promotion. Personally, the thing I like about guest blogging is that it shows how bloggers nowadays are willing to help each other out. Indeed, no man is an island, even in the blogging world. Remember the blogs you publish as guest posts have to be unique and not published elsewhere.

How to use anchor text to your advantage
Search engine optimization is built on hundreds of different variables, controls, and factors. From keyword optimization to image tags, there are hundreds of different parts of your website’s design, both on-page and off-page, that help the major search engines decide where it ranks. Thankfully, a lot of these factors are controllable, either directly through web coding or more indirectly through link manipulation and controlled link building.
