Why Your Book Cover is Like a Highway Billboard
| |
| Your book cover is like a highway billboard. How’s that? It’s simple. Like a billboard, if you first don’t catch their attention you’ll never deliver the message. Here's 15 tips for authors and publishers to consider when creating a book cover that sells! |

Are You Rude on The Internet? It Can Hurt Your Business.
| |
| I don’t know about you but I’ve noticed a disturbing trend occurring both on the Internet and in real life. The trend is rudeness. I watched a taping of Oprah tonight (see the CNN breakdown of this show here) that enlightened me to a book, a doctor and a quote that made the light bulbs go off. Dr. PM Forni wrote a book called, “Choosing Civility: The Twenty-Five Rules of Considerate Conduct” and although I have not read it yet, you bet it will be in my next book store purchase. |

Doing what you love priceless even at minimum wage
| |
| It has been said that if you find something to do that you love, you will never have to work a day as long as you live, and I believe that with all my heart. Why, do I believe that is true, because I have been lucky enough to find that twice in my life--once offline and now online--and to watch as my oldest son found it too. Someone said that I seemed a bit prejudiced in favor on online business, but let me you that is simply not the case at all. My favorite business of all was actually my brick and mortar used bookstore. It probably never paid me much more than minimum wage considering the hours I put in, and sometimes not even that much, but it was the absolute perfect business for me...at least until the Internet came along. |

Lesson #3: Put Yourself in Your Customers’ Shoes
| |
| Hindsight is 20/20. Looking back on the success – or lack thereof – of his first Subway store, DeLuca acknowledges that his biggest mistake was its “crummy location. In February, the store was doing so bad that we were thinking of closing up.” But together with his partner, Buck, the pair decided to try something even more eccentric: they decided to open up a second store. “We talked ourselves into building the second store,” says DeLuca. |

Productivity
| |
| I worked in a grocery store as a youngster. The Depression was on, inventories were limited and merchants frequently ran out of stock items. As a result, the merchants would borrow from each other until their next shipment came in. I was the "runner" for our store and Charlie Scott was the "runner" for the store across the street. |

Promotional Products Industry History and Overview
| |
| The introduction of promotional products dates back around 200 years. They are of the view that this concept was originated when the then President George Washington created commemorative buttons for his campaign which were an instant hit. The introduction of this convention also goes to Jasper Meeks, a printer in Coshocton, Ohio, when he persuaded a local shoe store to contribute book bags embossed with the store name to local schools. Since then promotional products have become a rage among companies almost all over the world. |

Following the Leader Who Follows the Leaders
| |
| It started out -- as most things do in the PC/CE/communications industry -- as
a "little" idea...an application store on a corner of the virtual cloud world. Suddenly you can't make your way around the web without bumping into another one. No one at Apple will say but people speculate the company has racked up $45 million with their virtual store front. Now new smartphones are coming out, every app store offers something. |

Books, Licensing and Franchising
| |
| Recently, while visiting a book store, I came across the Self Help Section, there were books with almost every possible book, How to win friends and influence people, Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul, Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneur, Guide to Investing, Unleash the Power Within and even one on how to author a book, Guerilla Marketing for Freshers and many many more similar titles. Since, there was an entire section dedicated for Self Help Books, It does seem that this is one of the popular categories. Several of these books are New York Times Bestsellers and so on.

Organization Structure Limits or Liberates High Performance
| |
| The CEO of a national retailer was very frustrated. His face grew noticeably redder as he told me how he had set up each store as a profit center and was attempting to hold store managers and their regional managers accountable for profitability. But when a store under performed the store manager would show that head office buyers were forcing them into stocking the wrong merchandise for their particular mix of customers. Or they would claim that the marketers hadn't put together the right campaign for their local market.

Fire your client!
| |
| A good business provides win-win opportunities for both the provider and the client. Each of the participants must feel that they have benefited from the experience whether it be a sale of a product or a service provided. For example the some person who enters a book store has a need- and that need is to own a book. The store’s need is to sell books. When the sale is completed, if the consumer is happy with the product, price and service – they win. The store wins when they sell the book for a price that leaves them with a reasonable profit. However when one of the two is not happy with the outcome of the transaction, it is no longer a win-win situation.
