| All of us preach the basics of selling and encourage all sales people to go “Back to the Basics” of building value in yourself and your product. That’s a given particularly in today’s competitive environment. Much time and effort is invested in training your sales force on product knowledge, features, benefits, and closing tools. | “From a domestic engagement perspective, public sector procurement practices are leading to an erosion of the overall supply base. This escalating level of erosion and its negative impact on innovation was initially presented as part of an October 2002 U.S. report by the Executive Office of the President.
Specifically, the practice of contract bundling which resulted in a steadily decreasing number of Small – Medium enterprises receiving federal contracts was seen as a direct threat to the nation’s pool of “innovation and creativity.” This of course has paved the way for newer legislation which has resulted in agencies such as NASA unbundling contracts in an effort to make business more manageable for small enterprises, or groups of small enterprises.

Trouble with Personality Tests

| Personality tests are commonly used for hiring in organisations. Personality tests attempt to measure a broad range of basic traits, such as the Big Five Personality traits or Emotional Intelligence. Although these may provide useful information on how to describe a person, research has repeatedly shown that they do little to predict how well a person will perform in a given job. Academic researchers are re-emphasizing what Chally reported over 30 years ago -personality tests are simply too broad to predict on-the-job performance. Chally, on behalf of the US Justice Department, found it necessary to research solutions well beyond the accuracy of this type of assessment; to identify and measure very precise, job-specific competencies, behaviours, and skills that have been scientifically shown to predict on-the-job sucess. |

If you can answer yes to these questions you have positioning. If not, do your work because positioning is the best way I know to pull rather than push in our businesses. |

Preventing Objections or Push-Backs
| |
| Objections or push-backs are natural. You will always face brush-off objections, especially on your initial call. Once you counter brush-off objections you have a choice. You can either let objections come up and handle them or handle them before they come up as part of your sales presentation/rapport building process.
