Networking For Results-The Power Of Social Media
Social media is an excellent networking tool when used properly. You see networking primarily is the process of building relationships from the time of first contact to the end result which is your ultimate goal(s). While online network marketing via social media websites such as Facebook, twitter, MySpace are powerful tools for networking with a broad spectrum of contacts, it can never be an equal substitute for face-to-face contact, nor should be considered so

Lesson #3: See the Forest Through the Trees
“I think the more you have a generalist perspective, I think sometimes the more you can kind of see through the forest and the trees,” says Case. “And when it gets a little bit cloudy, you know, have some sense of, ‘Well, maybe this might happen or maybe that might happen.’”

Trouble with Personality Tests
Personality tests are commonly used for hiring in organisations. Personality tests attempt to measure a broad range of basic traits, such as the Big Five Personality traits or Emotional Intelligence. Although these may provide useful information on how to describe a person, research has repeatedly shown that they do little to predict how well a person will perform in a given job. Academic researchers are re-emphasizing what Chally reported over 30 years ago -personality tests are simply too broad to predict on-the-job performance. Chally, on behalf of the US Justice Department, found it necessary to research solutions well beyond the accuracy of this type of assessment; to identify and measure very precise, job-specific competencies, behaviours, and skills that have been scientifically shown to predict on-the-job sucess.

Self Storage: Second Class Investment? Not Anymore!
Investments are investments, especially in real estate. The rules haven’t changed and the name of the game is still “Return.” Then, perhaps, it should not be so surprising that a niche in the broad spectrum of real estate investing that was once considered to be an alternative, is fast becoming the new trend-setter.

Strategic Planning - Business Executive Essentials - Part 8 of 12
The spectrum of corporate strategic planning models and processes is broad, and the term has taken on many different connotations over recent decades. For organizations that are new to formal strategic planning, it can seem like a daunting task. It certainly does not have to be, and this article series is intended to help chief executives get on the right path to better corporate planning. Just compiling goals and timelines into a spreadsheet that gets sent along with a meaningless report in a binder doesn’t cut it. That becomes worthless data to all involved in the organization and will not accomplish the results strategic planning should accomplish. There is no “magic binder” of spreadsheets and PowerPoints that can perform miracles when it comes to strategy and the execution thereof.

The Value Spectrum of Performance Management
The ‘Value Spectrum' is a term we use to describe how Managers and Executives should be positioning performance goals so that their employees can significantly improve organisation performance. The ‘Value Spectrum' is part of what an employee does that adds significant value to the organisation as opposed to doing things that need to be completed as part of their core duties. Core duties relate more to the position or job description document i.e. tasks the employee already executes to a high standard but which don't help transform the organisation as a whole.

The Pull of Positioning
What areas of your broad expertise do you specialise in? Are your specialisations unique, different, or better than other people who operate in the same broad space? If you can answer yes to these questions you have positioning. If not, do your work because positioning is the best way I know to pull rather than push in our businesses.
