Are you talking to me
| |
| Are you talking to me? Many businesses advertise in the local media without thinking about who really are the readers (although I’ll reference print media, the same applies for broadcast and their viewers/listeners, or outdoor/billboards’ viewers). Many business owners stand up at networking meetings and say “Hi my name is John from ABC. We sell widgets. A good lead for me is anyone who needs widgets.” In other words, you’ll sell to “anyone,” but you don’t know who “anyone” is. This is not an effective way to target your marketing activities. Your “advertising wastage” will be very high. |

How to get and leverage attention from the mass media
| |
| To get mass media attention, you have to broadcast for a reason. That means your message is broadcast to a lot more people than those in your niche. This is where most people get it completely wrong, and here Joel Roberts gave some very good advice. No matter what your niche is, you have to figure out a way to frame it so that the masses will listen. If you can grab their attention for an instant, you can then go into the details. But, if you start with the details and the solution, you won’t get anywhere with the mass media. |

Spreading yourself too thin in Social Media
| |
| Many DIY's have utilized social networking sites and other forms of social media to broadcast their message and communicate with others; however you can fall into the trap of starting to use many different sites to the point you can't update each one nearly frequent enough. The social media world is littered with "dead" blogs, dead profile pages, etc. Every instance you appear online will lead to a perception drawn from the visitor; a poorly maintained Facebook page or perhaps a blog not updated in several months can lead to a perhaps false conclusion your company is out of business, or struggling. Being visible online in many different places is really only beneficial if you have the manpower to update and continually communicate on each site.

Digital Marketing
| |
| Simply "Digital Marketing" = Marketing through "mobile devices" + "Internet". If blogspot allows a few GBs of space for a post, then we can probably think of expanding the latter two quoted words. Mobile devices may include a basic mobile phone, blackberryz, iPad etc and Internet includes Email marketing, Affiliate, popups, referrals, social media and so on. The effectiveness of communication through these mediums depends on how innovative one is, there are no limits in ways one can use these mediums.
Digital marketing is a term that has been around for quite sometime but hasn't been very well defined, encompassing things like banner advertising, search engine optimization (SEO) and pay per click. However, this is too narrow of a definition. What about email, RSS, voice broadcast, fax broadcast, blogging, podcasting, video streams..... |
