Living with Integrity
”What I do is who I am” Chris Schenkel. Several years ago I heard about an ad placed in a sports magazine advising hunters how not to scatter their shots. The ad said, “For one dollar we’ll give you that information.” Many people sent their dollar and the advice was, “Just use one shot.” While the ad was deceptive, and I’m certain many of the respondents were irritated at being taken in, the advice was good.

Top 10 Video Blunders When Used as a Sales Aid
It should go without saying that your videos should be professionally produced and directed. The do it yourself videos made on the fly are prone to all ten of the mistakes listed above. Unless you are in the marketing, advertising or videography business, you have no business doing this yourself unless you want to give people reasons not to buy from you.

PR for Business Start-ups
If you are a business start-up or a potential start-up and you think PR is just for the big boys, then think again. If you are in business you have a public - in fact you have several - and you also have relationships with these publics - so, like it or not, you have public relations. It makes sense to have a plan to nurture these important relationships and create a positive story about who you are, what you do and how this benefits the people who interact with you. Do this right and they will value the relationship and they will spread the word for you - there is no better business than by recommendation.

NEWS RELEASE QUIZ

Today, thanks to the Internet, everything we’ve learned about writing press releases has changed. Here's a short quiz to see if you have changed with the times.

Best Ways To Grow Your Online Business Offline
Whether you're online business has been around for some time, or is just starting up, turning potential contacts into actual clients is a top priority. Many online business owners wonder how effective offline marketing really is.

New York State Passes Broadcast Employees Freedom To Work Act
New York State Broadcast employers are prohibited from using non-compete agreements as a condition of employment.

Just the Facts Ma’am, Just the Facts
There was the classic TV Show and more recently the movie, “Dragnet”. The main character, Sergeant Joe Friday, was known for the quotation, “Just the facts ma’am, just the facts.” He would let a witness to a crime tell their story with all their emotion and commentary on what they believed happened. After a few minutes of listening to this extraneous information, Joe would interject his most famous line of dialogue, “Just the facts ma’am, just the facts.” As with Sergeant Friday, journalists are most interested in the facts you present in your press release.

Today\'s \"rant\" - insubordination
Many broadcasters long for the past where stability was the norm. Our customers (advertisers, viewers/users, stockholders and employees) are looking for much more from us. They are begging us to defy the past and invent the future to drive their success. That, by definition, forces us into instability, experimentation and the willingness to fail.

Entertainment Flexibility…Big Iron Doesn’t Matter
NAB -- National Association of Broadcasters -- how the industry has changed over the years (even with attendance that was down dramatically). We've gone from huge camras that took two men and a boy to move around the floor. A room full of sliding levers and people everywhere. Slowly, almost without seeing it the shift began and schools, health care facilities, houses of worship and even businesses could afford the lighter, more automated capabilities. Then we moved to really light stuff -- an HD camcorder, notebook and some kid doing his/her show on the fly. This year the show had obviously made the shift. Mobile and personal video took center stage...all in highdef. Get a life folks because o

Buy American: Establishing Artificial Boundaries or Removing Unwanted Barriers?
"This idea of international free trade is a fallacy. We don't need free trade. We need smart trade . . . Even Canada is not truly a free trade partner. Their regulations require broadcasters use a specified percentage of Canadian-produced programming. That's protectionism, and to deny it is to be the patsy to foreign governments who think they can take advantage of the naivete of the American voter." Let Paper Join HistoryPress Kits Join History
The CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) started the world of change a few years ago "encouraging" PR people to only use online press services or online kits. Most of the shows followed suit (MWC - Mobile World Congress, CTIA and well most other shows) going green and making press materials available to media folks even if they didn't attend. But the hue and cry from publicists at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show was difficult to understand. The benefits of the web and online services aren't new. After all these years we're rather glad to see the blood, sweat, tears of paper kits disappear

Providers Work to Profitably Meet Data/Video Bandwidth Demand
Friends in the Pacific Basin laugh at us when we talk about our 4G mobile service. When we say the infrastructure is being enhanced with LTE and soon we'll have 12MB bandwidth they look at us with pity. But when they look at our "all you can eat" service there is envy in their eyes. We don't bother telling them that the everything data plans are either capped or throttled and going away...why disillusion them? Some really smart people have an idea of how to build a new bridge and get us more bandwidth. It will come to pass even if the broadcasters don't like it because...there's money involved.
