The Dough Starts Flying: Domino’s Takes Off
| |
| “We had no idea what we were doing” recalls Monaghan of his and his brother’s first venture into the pizza business. “We opened up without an attorney. I didn’t even collect sales tax – didn’t know I had to.” Initially, the plan was for the brothers to each work half nights. However, when Monaghan’s brother refused to give up his job as a full-time mailman, Monaghan traded his Volkswagen for his brother’s half of the business. |

Lesson #5: Do Not Sell Yourself Short, The World Is Waiting
| |
| In the banking panic of 1875, a young Heinz found himself overextended and bankrupt. He had tried unsuccessfully to turn for help to the grocers he had been supplying with produce over the past few years. They, however, turned their backs on him. He could not even get enough credit to feed his family. |

Getting Better with Time: E&J Gallo Winery Takes Off
| |
| It was 1933. Prohibition was coming to an end in the U.S. and Gallo wanted to be ready to go when it finally did. Together, he and his brother launched E&J Gallo Winery. With Julio in charge of the vineyard, Gallo went to work looking after the winery’s sales operations. His strategy from the get-go was to market cheap, fortified wines to inner city markets. With 20 percent alcohol content, Gallo wines such as White Port and Thunderbird were first introduced to consumers. |

Marriage
| |
| As the 10th of 12 children, my older brothers and sisters obviously got here many years before I did. Two of my older brothers and two of my older sisters had failed marriages. Since I was at the bottom of the production chain, my younger brother and I had the benefit of what my mother had observed and taught us. She pointed out that we should never date a girl more than once or twice if we discovered we would be unwilling to have her as the mother of our children and be unwilling to take her wherever we were and introduce her with pride to anyone. I listened intently to what my mother had to say. I chose carefully. |

MLM / Network Marketing Prospecting: Don’t Be Afraid To Approach Any Goliath
| |
| We all have the tendency to pre-judge potential prospects as not being interested in joining our network marketing business. This is wrong as those that we perceive to be making a lot of money may not be. Or those that seem to have it all together may not. |

Making Decisions
| |
| Several years ago I read a great book called ‘Kids Are Worth It – Giving Your Child the Gift of Inner Discipline’ by Barbara Coloroso.
This book has served me very well as a parent giving me guidance in how to raise self-aware and self-disciplined children. In particular, I learnt by heart the following questions which I ask myself whenever I make decisions and in turn, have taught my children to ask whenever they make decisions.
The 3 Decision Questions are:
* Is it life threatening?
* Is it morally threatening?
* Is it unhealthy?

Equity Markets are a Farce!
| |
| What drives an investor to buy a stock? Is it the fundamentals? The technicals? A combination of the two? Well I’m not quite certain anymore. You can basically throw all of the textbook answers out the window when it comes to today’s equity markets. Why do I say that? Because I believe that the only thing that is driving this market is the notion that the government is going to bail out everyone and their brother. |

I Want to Advertise My Home Business for Free: A Cheap and Easy Guide for How and Why to Spread the Word of You, Inc.
| |
| Before we get started, why are we talking about spreading the word of YOU when you say "Roy, I told you I want to advertise my home business for free, what does spreading the word of me have to do with my business?"
The short and simple answer: Everything.
There are three main understandings that are necessary to bring together to begin a successful online business marketing campaign.
1. The understanding that people connect with and join not a business or company, but you.
2. You need to leverage as many free methods of marketing available to you online to be effective. The more the merrier.
3. The understanding that your advertising needs to give universal value to your target market before directing them to your product, regardless of what method of marketing you use. People join people of value, not a sales pitch. |

Top 10 Questions to Ask Your Prospects Before You Ask for the Business
| |
| When I was in high school, my girlfriends and I often envied the boys' prerogative of asking for phone numbers, dances, and dates, since the only time it was proper for girls to call boys was to invite them to the Sadie Hawkins dance. It wasn't fair, we fumed, that the guys got to do all the asking, and the girls had to wait to be asked. |

The Importance Of Making Connections
| |
| In my efforts as a local store marketing mentor to restaurant franchisees and franchisors, I often find myself prodding them them to "make a connection" when they are visiting someone for the first time.
Here's a quick illustration...
Recently, my brother was in Manhattan on business. As he stepped off his cab, he had two blocks to walk to his destination. He is often approached by people begging for money and this time was no different, a man made his way toward him-but this beggar was different.
The beggar extended his hand to reveal four quarters, and asked my brother, "Can you give me a dollar bill for these four quarters?" My brother paused for a moment, took the four quarters and handed the man a dollar bill.
A moment later, the beggar smiled and said, "Sir could you spare a quarter?"

What is the best Franchise?
| |
| As a Franchise Consultant I get asked all the time: "What is the best franchise?"
The "best" franchise is relative to what business model fits you the best.
I would love to tell you that every franchise is right for you, but that would not be true.
First thing you need to do is figure out what business model you want to operate.
Things like:
- Do you want employees or not?
- Retail, Wholesale, Mobile, Home or Office?
- B2B or B2C?
etc...
No where in there was Brand name or $$ right? That is because those things should come after you decide what business model fits. |

My Boss is not My Brother
| |
| One of my coaching clients recently got a much wanted promotion. He was so beyond excited he felt like he was walking on air, for, oh for about a week.
Then he called and said "What did I do". Actually he used much more colorful language than that. He had gotten onto the most kick-ass team in the company, the place where new ideas magically become products in the blink of an eye, or so he thought.
Yet, at the same time he was promoted, so was another man who was now his boss. When he called to tell me his balloon was deflated and he was now dragging around on the ground, he was feeling bewildered. In only one week he saw his boss make blunder after blunder.

Why You Should Keep Mum to Mom
| |
| Carefully consider who to listen to when considering a franchise purchase.
For years you’ve listened to your mom’s sage advice: “Turn off the lights,” and “Save your money” Most of the time that advice was pretty good and many times you even followed it. Now don’t tell your mom I said so, but there’s one time when your mother’s advice may not help you and that’s when you are about to invest in a franchise opportunity. |

Busy About

| Once upon a time, a prince and princess lived in stressful palace, surrounded by a stressful village, inside a stressful land. They knew it was stressful because everyone said it was. Their parents, the king and queen, worked from sunrise to sunset hearing issues from their kingdom, weighing the requests, and appropriating the collective harvest to the people of their land. |

Lesson #4: Everything Happens in its Own Time
| |
| It did not matter where Kellogg went in his life or what he did, his brother, John Harvey, was eight years older than him and he never let him forget it. As young boys, J.H. would regularly beat on his younger brother, and use him as a foot warmer during many a cold winter night. While J.H. was the loud and flamboyant child, Kellogg was shy, and fell into the shadow of his older brother. He was encouraged to join his father’s broom business, while his brother went off to a prestigious medical school. |

How you can work towards a happy life

It started with a guy saying how happy he was with his life. He had a good job, steady income, a loving wife and some good friends. He was happy.
Then with his brother and friend, they found millions of dollars and from then on, everything went wrong.
He argued with his wife and brother. The stress of everything got too much and eventually he burnt the money. |

No one wants to be bossed around - or do they?
| |
| Most of us who are the least bit independent - often bristle when being 'bossed around'. It must be some sort of baggage we carry around with us from childhood - the bossy big brother or sister, or bully down the street. Regardless of how we accumulated the resistance to being told what to do - it is one of the worst resistances we can feel - especially when we know what we are being told is correct.
