Where Do You Underestimate What You Are Capable Of?
Too often we underestimate what we are capable of and wind up settling for less, doing less and becoming less than what we are truly capable of. We need to trust ourselves more deeply and have the courage to take on goals that stretch us in order to know what we are capable of and achieve the success and happiness we truly want.

So what is the Definition of a Manager?
A classic definition of what managers are about is that ‘Leaders do the right thing and managers do things right’. A more standard definition is that managers would work towards the organisation’s goals using the resources at their disposal. It of course also depends on the size of the organisation. Larger companies might require managers to oversee the efforts and achievements of a further level of managers. A General Manager might have several other managers reporting to him or even several levels of management reporting to each other.

Conducting an Effective Territory Review
All companies are in constant need of aggressive, creative and resourceful salespeople to have their products specified, accepted and used by customers. Without informed and capable field salespeople, no company could hope to compete in the marketplace today. But how often have any of us stopped to consider the fact that good salespeople, the kind who can help a company really grow, don't just happen to come along by chance or fate. There is no such thing as a "born salesperson," because selling ability is much more than an intangible given that a person either has or doesn't have. Granted, selling does require certain attributes in a person. He or she should, for example, be basically outgoing in manner and capable of making a genuinely favorable impression almost immediately.

How Managers Undermine Employee Performance
Are you working in an organization where managers know how to motivate people? Are managers held accountable for listening to their employees and addressing any complaints? I coach a number of managers who consistently complain about certain employees, but don't take the time or make the effort to address any underlying concerns. Effective managers listen to their employees, and are open to any feedback that will improve work place performance. Spend enough time in meetings or the executive lunchroom, and you're destined to hear your fair share of managers' complaints about their employees.

Success principle: Treat everybody respectfully
One of the key principle of leadership and success is not just to be content with being capable for helping yourself, but by being capable to get others to help you as well. Many people lack in the latter part. As it’s said, the best way to get to the top is not to climb up the ladder; but to let others push you to the top. Now how does one do that?

Are You Genuinely A Leader Or Merely A Manager?
Without managers, the visions of leaders remain dreams. Leaders need managers to convert visions into realities. For continuous success, organizations need both managers and leaders. However, as most seem to be over-managed and under-led, they need to find ways of having both at the same time. Perhaps the best way to handle this paradox is for managers to aim to be managers when viewed from above, leaders when viewed from below and to remember that the need for leadership grows as we move up the organization. This is only one of the challenges that can make working life fun.
