No thanks, I’m sweet enough – beware of the excess added sugars in your diet

The average person consumes in excess of 50 kilograms of sugar per year! Refined sugars are addictive, immunosuppressive and will destroy your body’s ability to regulate blood sugar and insulin metabolism. Anything more than five kilograms of sucrose per year accelerates ageing, creates a breeding ground for yeast and fungus in the gastrointestinal tract, and will leach important minerals from vital organ reserves. So why do we continue to consume so much of it?

Work Life Balance: 7 Keys to Avoid Burnout

Last week I gave a workshop on time management for a women's group. I asked the audience (mostly moms) about their biggest challenges about time management and stress management. Not surprisingly, most of them feel stressed out, overwhelmed, juggling too many competing priorities, have too many things to do with too little time, and virtually no time for themselves. If you're a mom, I bet you can probably relate to this, at least to some degree. What you might not know is that you are heading toward burnout. This article will teach you 7 keys to avoid burnout.

Mending a Broken Heart

| I am amazed at how little effort it takes to motivate, uplift, and make a difference in my own life and in the lives of others by the simple gesture of sending or receiving a note of appreciation or encouragement...
We all want to be acknowledged for our contributions in this world – to know that our lives matter in some way -- and we all want to be treated with respect – at home and at work. |

Laughter isn't just the best medicine - it's easy to take too!

In his book ‘Anatomy of an Illness’, Norman Cousins tells the story of how he ‘laughed his way out of a crippling disease’ that doctors believed to be irreversible. Cousins was an author, diplomat and editor of the literary magazine ‘The Saturday Review’. In 1964, he contracted ankylosing spondylitis – the connective tissue in his spine was disintegrating. He was told that there was no record of anyone ever beating the disease and that adrenal stress could have been the cause behind it.

What Are These Things We Call Free Radicals? Are They Free, and Do We Want Them?

The "Free Radical" is the source for virtually all disease, illness and aging itself! Science has come a long way on this -- further by far than the medical establishment has moved on it. Many doctors will acknowledge that free radicals are the basic cause of disease, but since they don't have any drugs to treat free radicals with, they continue to administer drugs which are, themselves, often sources of more free radicals.

Arthritis is Not Caused by Old Age

Arthritic aches and pains are a major issue in our ageing workforce. According to Professor Paul Hodges from University of Queensland's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences body aches, pains and injuries are the second most expensive cause of lost productivity at work and health care expenditure. Only cardiovascular disease costs our society more. If arthritis was caused by old age, as implied by many welll-meaning physicians, surely all of our body would be worn out to the same degree because it's all the same age.

Finding Motivation Shouldn’t Take Extraordinary Measures

| Although some movies miss the mark and aren't very interesting, this movie did an excellent job!
The movie was a story about a father who had two children with Pompe Disease which is very similar to Muscular Dystrophy. The muscles deteriorate due to the inability of the body to break down the sugars. According to the movie the life expectancy of a child with the disease is only about 9 years.
I was on the verge of tears several times as I watched the parents struggle with the fact: two of their children were nearing that magic age of 9, while they were desperately seeking a cure for this horrible disease. The father was constantly doing research just trying to find some hope. He ultimately identified a grumpy old scientist who had a theory which gave him hope. |

Applications Of Genetic Testing

Genetic Testing seeks to analyze and evaluate the DNA of an individual for the purpose of determining the presence of a gene that is responsible for or has the potential of causing an illness. Should there be any indication of such gene, it is also the responsibility of the medical professional performing the Genet test to appraise the risks involved in developing such disease, risks of passing such disease on to the next generation, and the risks of recurrence.

What Happens During A Genetic Consultation?

Ever since the Human Genome Project was completed in 2003, medical professionals are better able to determine which genes may be a carrier or a source of a disease which can be genetic in nature. Patients who may be at risk of such diseases are given assistance in understanding the nature of their disease, how and why they acquire them if any, and how they can possibly avoid having such condition.

Logic doesn’t change Emotion, Action does!

One of the greatest challenges that entrepreneurs face is to get back in the groove, after a long break. I call it the ‘derailed’ disease. It’s similar to an employee feeling the Monday blues. I am a frequent victim of this disease. Earlier in my life this was the reason for me to quit many projects halfway through. I just didn’t know how to get back on track. I used to justify that this is God’s will and I can’t change it. The problem was that I was using Logic to fight it, which I found out to be the wrong thing to lead with.
