Balancing Work and Life
| |
| A physician said to me in 1986, after I had first started my own business for three years: "There is more to life than working hard and making money." Now, I'm seeing his protege at the same office. My former physician passed on. But his words stay for me. I miss him. |

Finding The Best Doctor With Each Type Of Health Insurance
| |
| Finding the best doctor can be an incredibly daunting task. Some individuals will simply peruse the physician’s list and determine the best doctor by viewing their certifications, awards, alma mater and number of years practiced. Most individuals with health insurance, however, will be limited by the constraints of their health insurance policy. These individuals may only peruse the list of individuals that are within their network of physicians. In this instance, the same criteria may be used to select the best physician. Finding the best doctor will depend upon the health insurance policy, the region and the physicians available to the patient.

Effectively Marketing Medicine
| |
| Those involved in the fields of health and medicine, perhaps more than any other professionals, can benefit from a targeted, strategic public relations campaign. The trust and validation factors are never so important than when people are searching for a physician, medical center or hospital. Most people first learn about a new medical breakthrough, treatment or modality via the media and when the public sees a physician being interviewed on TV or in a magazine or newspaper, that physician gains immediate credibility.

Right #3 You Have the Right to...Take Care of Yourself!
| |
| I have a confession to make. Like many of you, I'm a single mom who's been without insurance - for eight years. In that time I cared for sick and dying parents (they passed away just 4 months apart). I also moved in with my ex-husband and cared for him while he fought cancer (he's now in remission). And I continually care for my diabetic daughter, help with my grandchildren, work on another daughter's ventures, market my business, work, write, and in the meantime take plenty of vitamins, aspirins, sinus tabs, Nyquil, and diet pills. I fall into bed at night exhausted, often only to stare at the TV or the ceiling.
I was recently coaching a physician who shocked me with this eye-opener. Years ago, she said, it was the talk of the emergency room when a 49-year-old came in with a heart att |

Is your Practice Getting your Share of the Federal Governments Electronic Medical Records Stimulus Package? Check out Three Easy Steps to achieve Meaningful Use
| |
| Sometimes, the bigger the change, the more complicated things can get. Consider Meaningful Use of EHR, the government health care IT initiative that has physician practices everywhere in a panic. We know you became a doctor to treat patients, but you shouldn't lose sight of the fact that it is indeed a business! And these changes will soon affect your business. Many practices wonder, "Does it require an entire team of IT professionals to teach the office how to meet it? Will everything about how the office is run have to change? And how much is all this going to cost, anyway?" |

A Little Boy and His Empty Bag
| |
| I recently accompanied my mother on a routine medical appointment with her new physician. This morning appointment and the literal change was more out of necessity than choice since her physician of over twenty years finally threw in the towel and retired. While completing the enormous mounds of paperwork required by a new medical provider in today's contradictory electronic world, I noticed a young mother walk into the waiting area with two small children. The mother was probably in her early twenties and the children, one girl and one boy, looked to be four and three respectively. She was flanked on both sides by these extremely well kept and well behaved young children. The boy more noticeably was on her right hand and closest to me as they passed by in order to check in with the receptionist and eventually find a place to sit. |

Media & Medicine: Developing a Medical Practice Utilizing PR
| |
| If you’re a physician looking to market your practice or reach out to new patients, keep in mind that physicians, more than those in other professions, can benefit from an effective media campaign. Press coverage reaches their target market, drives patients their way and gives them validation and credibility. A physician who is featured in the New York Times or USA Today or on CNN will generally be viewed as an expert, as a leader in his or her field who can be trusted. |

13 Important Training Issues For Retailers
| |
| Have you ever been a customer somewhere and had someone take care of you with such care and interest that you just assumed they were the owner? Isn't this the kind of person you really want taking care of your customers? You also want someone who actually cares for your customers and who will take ownership of a problem and make it their goal to take care of that customer as your personal representative. It's all about having people who want to deliver a memorable experience, as opposed to having people who are indifferent to customers and just want to put their time in.

Time For Your Check-Up!
| |
| If you care about your health, most likely you see your physician for a check-up, at least once per year. As your coach (well, at least through my writings), I’d like to complete a goal check-up with you today. If you are like most business owners, you set some sort of 2011 goals for your business, either in late 2010 or in January of 2011. Unfortunately, if you are like most, you also haven’t paid attention to those goals much. |
