The Ethics of Service

| Service works when it enriches the exchanges. Customers feel valued when the experience a service provider delivers something special to the encounter. But generous must be coupled with conscientiousness or it turns contentment into caution. And, a generous heart without an enthusiastic spirit risks leaving customers believing they have received a gesture without importance and a gift without worth.

Keys to Branding Your Small Business

| During the 19th and early 20th centuries, a rancher would mark his cattle with a brand. This brand, depicting an image unique to his ranch, distinguished his cattle from another’s in the event of a broken fence. Branding, in today’s modern marketing world, operates much the same way. It seeks to distinguish a product or service from the competition and create a lasting impression in a prospect’s mind.

What is Meant as The Cattle on 1000 Hills?

For those not familiar with the scriptures, Psalm 50:10 states: For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. God does not need our money. What He wants is our obedience. So when passage of scripture came to mind, I believed the name I use had to be something equally unusual and unexpected. It may cause confusion as some may think I am in the cattle business. There is no land or cattle for sale. I wanted a name that points to the fact that God owns all that we think is ours. We accumulate so much material “stuff” during our lives and consider that it makes us wealthy but as the old adage says: You can't take it with you.

Why Does this Successful Internet Marketing Business Bear Such an Unusual Name?

My business, Cattle On 1000 Hills, bears a peculiar name since I do not sell land or cattle. Psalm 50:10 states: For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. God will never need our money but He desires our obedience. Upon discovering this fantastic home based Internet marketing business, I believed its name should be equally unusual. I wanted the name to point to the fact that God owns all we think is ours, all the material "stuff" we accumulate during our lives. We believe all that stuff makes us wealthy but as the old adage says: You can't take it with you.

Wise Managers Treat Layoffs as Last Resort

Despite all the trendy rhetoric about the importance of people, leadership, and values, far too many managers treat people in their organizations with about as much care and concern as so many numbers on a financial statement. They are just one more set of assets to be managed. These just happen to have skin wrapped around them. Phrases like "head count" dehumanize and objectify people. That's how we talked about cattle on the farm where I grew up. And that's exactly how too many managers view "their people."
