The Future of Sales
| |
| For centuries, the sales model has been focused on placing a solution. Given the complexity of business these days, having the right solution to manage a ‘need’ is not enough to help buyers choose your solution.
Buyers live in a very complex world now. With global stakeholders, economic downturns, enlarged decision teams, and an almost limitless number of options – all available at the drop of a hat – competition is far more complex than being addressed by us having a good solution and giving great service. And as a result, we’re having greater difficulty closing sales. We’d like to think it’s ‘the economy, stupid.’ But in reality, the problem is more complex. |

Why Open Questions Don't Work
| |
| For decades, if not centuries, we’ve written books about, lectured about, and trained about, the virtues of Open Questions.
I’m here to denounce the myth that they are good in all instances: I actually believe they are used most effectively at the back end of the selling/buying cycle and have no role to play in the buying decision activity that occurs before buyers make their solution choice.

His business had sprung up from a need that was not being met – getting wet feet in the great outdoors. It was a need that had not been met for centuries past, and one that would need to keep being met for years ahead. Bean knew that if he played his cards right, his company could be at the forefront of meeting that need for the foreseeable future, and beyond. Indeed, it was Bean’s long term vision and planning that explains the company’s continued success. |

The Special Force of Mentoring
| |
| Having a mentor I an integral part of getting where you want to go and achieving what you want to achieve, as fast as possible, with the fewest mistakes. I consider mentors to be key components of maximizing your Conquering Force.
In your life, you have probably already enjoyed the help of several mentors. For example, you may have had a parent, coach, teacher, or associate who made a major impact on your life. A mentor could even be someone you don't know personally-someone whose philosophy or example touched you so deeply you decided to emulate him or her. In some way, directly or indirectly, these people were there for you. They knew what they were talking about, and they showed you a better way to achieve. |
