Leadership Myth #1 - Great Leaders Are More Intelligent
Many people believe great leaders are more intelligent than poor leaders. There are so many examples that debunk this theory that it is hard to pick just a few. Raw intelligence is not correlated with outstanding leadership characteristics. In fact, if you drew a correlation line showing IQ on one axis and success as a leader on the other, it would not be a straight line. There is a maximum point beyond which higher IQ is actually a predictor of lower success as a leader.

Leadership Myth #2 - Great Leaders Work Harder
Many people believe great leadership requires a person to be the hardest working person in the organization. That is simply not the case. In fact, Great leaders are often less work-a-holic type people than is commonly thought.

Leadership Myth #4 - Great Leaders are Expert at Playing Politics

Overcoming the Dysfunction in Sales Organizations
These days, many companies have questions about compensation for salespeople and sales leaders and as a result they make a lot of mistakes too. Why would a company want to squash a top producer because he/she is making a lot of money? It happened to Rocky once and he weighed in - with a strong opinion - on the subject.

The C Factor!
Assembling a 'dream team' sales force is not as difficult as you may first think. I've known of businesses reaching great heights through the salesmanship of only a few sales-guns! Before creating a 'dream team' you need to have at least one exceptional salesperson you can model. Someone has to go there first! Whether this person is the company founder, (if sales savvy,) or a senior leader, there must be a working best-practice sales-process you can model and replicate. Once you have a high performing salesperson to model; their core characteristics, behaviours, and activities, then form the blueprint (DNA) of your 'dream team'. Keeping in-mind, that it's ok to have varying personalities in the same team, this enables your team to demonstrate versatility and engage a diverse customer base. You don't need to 'literally' clone sales

Leadership Development - A Strategic Need?
Leadership development budgets, that are based on only good intentions and general ideas about leadership, get axed in bad times and get extravagant during good times. Communication A.P.P.E.A.L.
To succeed as a business owner, you need to create and refine your "entrepreneurial voice." I believe that voice has three components: your private voice (what you say to yourself); your public voice (what you say to the world); and your personal voice (what you say to clients). These three voices, while distinct, still need to align and resonate with one another to successfully run your business. In this article, I offer a perspective on what makes your communication appealing -- those qualities you can cultivate in each of your three voices to be more confident, genuine, and effective in every area of your business and your life!

The best four strategies for improving your networking.

Working From Inside Out
Inspired by Louise Hay, renowned author and lecturer on the impact of thoughts on the body “when we really love ourselves, everything in our life works” I began to examine Charisma from an‘inside – out’ perspective. By working holistically in the knowledge that the mind and body are totally interconnected I made some fascinating discoveries.

The Prince Charming Effect™
External measurements of Charisma can sometimes be interpreted as charm - although this alone does not create a Charismatic presence, which requires a strong sense of the person’s character, the essence of the inner person. All the charm in the world cannot compete with an individual who speaks from their heart in a way that is genuine and reflects their deepest beliefs.

An Audience with Charisma
Throughout my career I have often found myself in the company of individuals who have that indefinable quality that draws you to them, and leaves you feeling wonderfully energised as a result of meeting them. As a teenager I studied theatre and the performing arts. I remember the day that I realised technical excellence alone did not guarantee a brilliant performance. Being a huge fan of Ballet I fully appreciated the precision and mastery of The Royal Ballet Company. Yet when I saw The Bolshoi Ballet Company perform Swan Lake the artistes would glide onto the stage yielding an invisible power that captivated, and mesmerised their audience whom they were able to move to tears.

If you are a leader in your own company or managing a team, you are missing a golden opportunity if you don’t lead consciously!

PRICE OF LEADERSHIP
We all know that the world is starving for individuals who are prepared to step up and lead us. Men and women who are capable of rising above the mediocrity and narrow mindedness that seems so pervasive in the world, men and women who possess the strength of character, the vision, charisma, passion and energy to take us all to a better place. Much has been written and will be written still about leadership; what it is, where to find it, who can lead, even how to grow it. But you do not often read about or even witness the incredible cost that leaders often have to pay for their willingness to lead.

You have the power to connect with consumers based on the fact that you share similar traits. Charisma reduces Stress
Watching the news, reading the papers, managing a business, relationship issues, getting the kids to school, money worries and physical ailments can raise our stress levels alarmingly. We need this automatic response to survive a hostile environment yet elevated and prolonged stress can play havov with our emotions, our decisions and general well-being. Interestingly, the higher your level of charisma the less stress you experience.

Charisma - the Latest Corporate Lever for Double-Digit Growth

Yet a quiet revolution amongst discerning businesses looking for growth rather than survival has shown that simply by developing their leadership team's charismatic potential has an almost instantaneous impact on their bottom line.

Charismatic Facts that Stimulate Energy
Charisma is an authentic power that captivates the hearts and minds of others. We all have an infinite amount of potential inside of us and the quickest way to release it is by stimulating your curiosity, energy, confidence and driving force. As the grey skies and drizzling cold try to seep into my sense of joy, I found the following facts lifted my spirit and filled me with a warm glow. I hope they create the same reaction within you!

The King of Charisma
The auditorium is packed with rows of expectant ‘wanna-be’ millionaires in sharp suits; the smell of anticipation adding excitement to noisy conversations. The audience is eagerly awaiting the arrival of an American self-help writer and speaker who guarantees to change lives, changing them within a matter of hours. On this cold, rainy day in February 1991, I sat entranced in Wembley Arena watching one man hold the attention of the audience for 8 hours. The stage was unadorned – just him, a stool and a microphone. Undoubtedly the King of Charisma he was dynamic and simply awesome with an ability to influence and motivate.

Top Turn Offs When Running A Meeting
During a random quiet moment before I was about to deliver a keynote on Charismatic Leadership I calculated that I must have attended between 6000 - 8000 meetings in my career. Some have been outstanding for all the wrong reasons so I thought it might help to share my top turns offs when running a meeting!

Courage and Charisma
During my charisma seminars at The Globe Theatre I see a courageous group of people take steps into unknown territory as they encounter techniques and concepts that stretch their thinking. Each seminar begins with a room full of strangers, by the end, strong bonds of friendship are forged during a 48 hour journey of self-discovery. These people have caused me to reflect on whether there is a link between courage and charisma.

Handling Charismatic People
Having had a meeting today with a charismatic business woman, I felt inspired to reflect on best ways to deal with charismatic people. Something that might come in handy when you meet Alan Sugar or Richard Branson. Whether you work for a charismatic boss, manage a charismatic individual or have a charismatic client, there are a number of suggested approaches that can optimise the quality of your communication.

The Charismatic Mindset
Charismatic people possess a mindset of empowering beliefs that build and develop their personal magnetism. As you read through this list of beliefs, take time to consider each in turn. To what extent is each of these beliefs already part of your personal belief system? If you feel resistance to one of these statements, spend some time to imagine how you would feel, think and act if you made that belief your own. Notice how it might empower you, push you to take more responsibility, or make you stronger and more assertive. Think of something you could now do that perhaps you would not have dared to do without that new belief. Try it out. Have fun! Grow some charisma within you!

Th Case for Charismatic Leadership
Research shows that Charismatic Leaders and Charismatic Managers have more impact and influence, and are better able to transform workforce attitudes, beliefs and behaviours. Global research by Hewitt Associates who pioneered the measurement of employee engagement in the early 1990s found that employee engagement is higher at double-digit growth companies. The quickest and most cost-effective way to build high levels of engagement is by developing the charismatic potential of the leadership teams.

A Charismatic Mountain
Last week I climbed Mount Snowdon. I was in awe of the energy and powerful presence that radiated from the spectacular panoramic views at the top. The climb was tough and by the time I got to the peak my legs were aching and I could feel blisters rubbing on my heel. Yet reaching the top gave me a perspective of total clarity that I was at one with the universe and the awesome power of this mountainous terrain. This mountain exuded energy and charisma.

World at Work Trends - The Impact of Charisma
According to a detailed analysis of the world’s shifting trends and dynamics, Manpower Inc has identified a critical mega trend that is vital to sustainable growth during these tough economic times; Demographic and economic shifts are accelerating the talent mismatch. In an economic environment where organisations are pressured to do more with less, businesses and governments will continue to demand more specific skills and behaviours. The pressure to find the right skills in the right place at the right time will increase as working age populations decline, economies rebound, emerging markets rise, and the nature of work shifts. This will intensify the skills mismatch.

Authentic Leadership develops Engagement
In turbulent times with the gloomy term ‘economic recession’ hovering like a grey cloud overhead, there is a glimmer of light that is providing a ray of hope for organisations wanting to thrive rather than survive in 2012. Did you know that the authenticity of the leadership team determines whether employees either do their job or whether they work with their heart and soul, continually striving to make a positive impact. Authentic leadership builds trust and automatically stimulates the flow of energy that breeds confidence and safety so that employees feel fully engaged with their organisation’s vision.

The Charismatic Performance Model™
Over the centuries we have become addicted to growth through struggle. Pain is often perceived as a necessary stimulus to growth where individuals adopt the view “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” Adversity is worn like a badge of honour because people often call on their inner resources to strengthen their resolve. Resilience is now viewed as an essential component for corporate success. Yet individuals are still resistant to change within a corporate context because they feel in touch with fear. According to Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs first introduced in 1943 our basic needs are for survival closely followed by safety and security.

Being in The Zone, being in The Flow is Being Charismatic
This week I delivered a half-day session on Charismatic Leadership to The Ella Foundation, established by Brian Chernett, created to inspire more leaders in the not for profit sector to be more effective and successful. Nearly 30 leaders from different registered charities participated in a way that was subtly different to leaders within the corporate sector. These men and women showed a real passionate intensity for their cause that was truly inspiring. Their minds were open and receptive to my techniques meaning that the exercises we did regarding energy were really advanced because their attitude to learning was untainted by cynicism.
