Heroes in sport may be compared to leaders in organizations. How the members behave and perform is often a result of the example set by leadership. For instance, if a company’s set of published standards are that it values responsibility and accountability, but management often does not abide by these stated principles, employees will, as a consequence, feel it is alright to do the same, thus fostering a culture of deception contrary to the stated value. What kind of culture exists in your organization? Does it contribute to the personal goals that you, as a leader, have or envision for yourself and your company? NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. Frequently we become so pragmatic we fail to be effective. A number of years ago the editor of the Dallas Morning News pointed out to the sports writers that “Bill” was not a suitable substitute for “William,” and “Charlie” was not a suitable substitute for “Charles.” Taking him literally, one of the sports writers, in the heyday of Doak Walker of Southern Methodist University, wrote about an important game.
