Lesson #1: Push Your Ads To The Limits

“Anything we do in advertising is controversial,” says Klein. “If it’s provocative and sensual and related to what we’re selling, I'm willing to take the chance. I have fun with the ads.”

Calvin Klein Ads

If there is one thing Calvin Klein ads are known for it is pushing the boundaries of what is considered socially acceptable. Ever since 1980, when the company placed 15 year old Brooke Shields on one its ads, with the tagline “Nothing comes between me and my Calvins,” Klein has been pushing the advertising envelope. From there, he began mounting giant billboards in the middle of New York City’s Times Square that featured buff male models with nothing on but their white CK briefs, and using childlike models, such as Kate Moss, to help sell his Obsession perfume.

Lesson #2: Remember that Happy Workers are Harder Workers

| They can bring their dogs to work, wear jeans if they choose and compete in company-sponsored Elvis impersonator contests. Lesson #3: Stretch Your Brand but Do Not Let It Snap

Customers don’t care about you unless you’re naked. They just don’t.

Boomers … the Numbers, the Markets Keep Growing

You can fight it all you want but you're getting close to, passed through or can't even see it in the rearview mirror. It is your becoming part of the boomer plus generation. You may find it tough to find a pair of jeans that fit just right on you but don't forget boomers have most of the world's net worth, their numbers are growing faster than the GenX, GenY folks. They'll probably live longer than past generations, they're going to work longer, they'll stay involved/stay active, they're online more and they buy more PC/CE/content toys than the other groups. Maybe it's because we're just pushed past the early phases of Booming and our kids have been giving us a hard time. We just repeat in our mind what Mark Twain said, "Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. " BAM !! Things are OK again.
