Embracing Change to Have the Career You Want
| |
| Changing careers, going back to work and going back to school is a wonderful place to be. Yet it can be so scary leaving what we know and are familiar with. This place is often called your “comfort zone.” Strange, isn’t it, to use the term “comfort zone” when being there can cause us to experience so much discomfort doing those things that cause stress and even illness? I felt the tug and pull of wanting to move on to something new during my tenure in marketing and administrative positions. The tug to stay put is strong. “Don’t rock the boat,” I was told by family and friends who were only trying to think what was best for me. Getting a regular paycheck and maybe some benefits is seductive. And to be pulled toward something new is also seductive with its own series of concerns and doubts. |

How can I say this? Especially when I don't know anything about you - your profession, interests or background. The answer is simple. Nobody stays outside their comfort zone for very long - we leave it for long enough to achieve what we need to achieve then we
scuttle back for cover.
So, what is a Comfort Zone? |

"The Fatal 10 - Powerful Trends in Mediocre Organizations"
| |
| In the world of business, there are more clones than you might imagine. It is the rare organization that steps out of the herd to become remarkable. This illusion of safety creates apathy and mediocrity in most organizations while the leaders struggle to find excellence amidst the decay of the ordinary.
As a student of organizational leadership, I analyze the similarities and special characteristics that differentiate one company from another. What makes one organization shine while others seem so content with remaining average? The most likely answer is fear. But the answer is, of course, much more complex. Fear of failure transcends the spectrum of our awareness. There is comfort and even safety in the mediocrity of our existence. Therefore, what it takes to leave the comfort of the pack becomes very rare.
