Let your mouth say what your heart wants to without your brain getting in the way
| |
| We waste so much time in business and in life because we aren’t straight with each other. We don’t say what we mean or ask for what we need for fear of being judged, ridiculed or even fired. It takes courage to speak from your heart and to speak your truth.

Business Accountability Teams - they go to BAT for you
| |
| How hard it is sometimes to stay focused; to put in that extra effort to achieve the business results we want. How easy it is to be wooed by the warm day to play a round of golf when we should be making sales calls. How easy it is to rationalize that taking the afternoon off will be made up for next week. This is especially true when there is no one to hold us accountable; ah the freedoms of business ownership! |

Organizational "Strange Actractors"
| |
|
We have for the most part looked at organizations in a traditional linear view and constantly put people, teams, departments, divisions and organizations in general into boxes often connected with lines. This is fine when trying to show where individuals reside within the context of organizations; however, it is not how organizations work. |

Empathy Means Not Going It Alone
| |
| When I feel overwhelmed, it's often because I forget that I'm not in competition with the rest of the world, but I always have the option to join in cooperation. That requires that I adjust my attitude toward the rest of the population of the world and see them as other 'selves' rather than threats. This awareness, this attitude, I call 'empathy'. |

The Power of Purpose
| |
| Do you know the purpose of your business? Do you clearly understand why you started your business? Have you communicated this purpose to all those who work with you? Have you documented the purpose? If the answers to any of these is ‘no’ then you are probably finding it difficult to stay on course as you are bombarded by the day to day surprises lurking in your future. The solution lies in the Power of Purpose, which states that when a business owner clearly knows and deeply believes in the purpose of her business she will achieve great success because she has a strong beacon to guide every action and decision.

| When you give in to self-pity and victimization you leave behind your potential. It is abandoning yourself from being all that you can be. Life holds a special purpose for you. Finding it is part of your journey. Once you get on purpose and get on track, you are not being left behind. Your success builds from your special purpose and no one else’s. |

The Universe is Calling - Will You Heed the Call?
| |
| "The soul is like a wild animal -- tough, resilient, savvy, self-sufficient, and yet exceedingly shy." Parker J. Palmer from Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation
In our last issue I made a distinction between one's life purpose and a calling or vocation. As you may recall the Life On Purpose Perspective offers that your life purpose is more about who you are as a spiritual being and what you came here to this life to be and to experience, while a calling or a vocation often has more to do with what you choose or are lead to do as an expression of your purpose.
Of course, on one hand anything that you do in life can be enhanced when it's 'poured' into the context of your life purpose. For example, several years ago with Life On Purpose Institute was just getting of |

The Power of Vision!
| |
| Vision of what can be creates functional pull against the gravity of lowest common denominator, "just doing my job." This is quantum physics married to newtonian physics. Everyday we don't engage our teams with vision, sense of purpose, tangible using values, we lose opportunity and get pulled back to the common place... read more here in the "power of vision", first published in Food & Drink Magazine, 2009. |

Sue Grafton is a Success Because She Loves What She Does
| |
| Successful people have a clearly defined purpose for their life. Sue Grafton's purpose is writing mystery stories that entertain large numbers of people. My purpose is helping others succeed. My friend's purpose was creating better surgical equipment. What is your purpose? It should be something you love. If you don't love it, you'll get burned out and see your work as a grind. If you love what you do, you see your work as a gift and something to which you look forward every day. As we approach the end of 2009, spend some time thinking about what you truly love doing. Then, and more important, think about how you can make doing what you love your life's work. |

The State of the Union, Common Sense and Success
| |
| Successful people embrace and use their common sense. They apply four key common success principles: 1) clarity of purpose and direction; 2) a sincere commitment to taking personal responsibility for your life and career; 3) unshakeable self confidence; and 4) competence in several key skills. In the State of the Union address, President Obama called common sense a novel concept. It may be. However, if you are serious about creating the successful life and career you want and deserve, you will embrace your common sense. You'll apply your inner knowing of what to do to when it comes to succeeding in this life and in your career. |

Building A Practice On Purpose Series Part #4 Identifying the Fear-based Culture of Your Business
| |
| In the personal life coaching I do as a Life On Purpose Coach I work with my clients to help them uncover their Inherited Purpose. This is the fear, lack, struggling to survive-based force that shapes people's lives especially whenever we feel threatened which for most people is quite often in today's times.
One way to think of a business is that it's a group of people who have come together for a common cause or purpose. For a veterinary practice that is generally to offer services to pets and their owners. So, it makes sense that when a group of people come together that their individual Inherited Purposes also come together to form a fear-based culture of business. |

Building a Practice On Purpose Series Part #2 - When Life Purpose is About More than What You Do
| |
| In interviewing literally thousands of people through the last 10 years and asking them, "What do you think a life purpose is?" I found that a high percentage of the responses had a common theme to them which was:
"A life purpose is what I'm here to DO while I'm alive."
