Shall we create leaders in all positions?
| |
| There are many management and leadership styles and personalities described in writing and even more practiced every day around the world. To find our own management style is important since people will only follow and trust a person leading from his true personality. Managers pretending to be something they are not, end up pushing their employees instead of being followed. The word leadership is today confused and is commonly used to describe all levels of managerial duties.
A company can successfully train staff to become good company managers. From these good managers some will develop into and become great company leaders. This last step cannot be trained - only facilitated. |

Company Culture the Personality of Your Business and Brand
| |
| Is your company culture fear-based, trust-based, or strengths-based? Take a few moments to think about it. How would you know the difference? It’s vital information that reflects the personality of both your business and brand.
In a fear-based culture the traditional hierarchy dominates. Managers tell uninspired employees what to do and how to do it based on the assumption that the company is a machine that needs willing servants to function properly.
Does this sound overly simplified? In reality, the fear factor might express itself with more subtlety but it always comes down to a one-way communication channel. It is no surprise that creativity and innovation suffer while productivity slows down when fear is the motivator. |

Social Media Marketing is Like Dating … Real Serious Dating
| |
| Companies and social media "experts" can't wait to run out and tell everyone how good they are, their products/services, their very souls. They make it very difficult for the person who's being pitched to get a word in. But it's a relationship with him/her you want to develop/build. How does that start? By listening...real long, real hard. Works in your house doesn't it? Bet it will work in your fantastic social media program. But it's a lot more fun -- and more intelligent -- to hear yourself talk than listen to someone else. Especially when YOU have so much to offer...RIGHT!!!

Are You a Great Manager?
| |
| A twenty-five year Gallup study of over eighty thousand managers discovered the secrets of great managers. Here’s what the research uncovered -- Great managers hire employees based on talent, not experience. This flies in the face of the arguments I hear from sales managers all over the country. They want experienced salespeople. Gallup found that great managers look at talent, not just history. |

Staffing Shortages? Maybe You’re the Problem
| |
| Demographers are predicting that staffing shortages are only going to worsen in the coming years. Too many managers mistakenly assume the only way to keep people is to bite the bullet and pay more in salaries, benefits and perks. Unfortunately, those managers are often 'fixing' the wrong problem. Marcus Buckingham of the Gallop organization reported that the number one reason employees quit was their personal feelings about their immediate supervisor. Ask yourself if it's time your company took measures to fix the real problem when it comes to staff turnover - managers and supervisors are not equipped with the necessary skills to make their team members feel valued... |

Hiring Former Fortune 1000 Employees
| |
| If you are considering a salesperson, sales manager or VP of Sales from a big, name brand company, there is a crucial point that executives from smaller companies usually miss. You probably don't run a large, name brand company. Your salespeople probably aren't automatically invited in with open arms. Your company probably doesn't have a reputation that precedes it. Your company probably isn't the market leader. Your company probably doesn't have the lowest prices.
So how would one of these former big-brand salespeople or sales managers fare when they encounter the resistance, challenges, ambivalence and rejection that the rest of your salespeople endure? |

Top Producer, Top Salesperson or Good Account Manager?
| |
| When top management is unable or unwilling to recognize the difference between top producers and their good account managers, mistakenly believing that their good account managers are also good salespeople, the company is probably not experiencing very strong growth. |

The Employment Interview --- How Hard Can It Be
| |
| Interviewing a new job candidate sounds easy. After all, you are in control. You have something to offer. You can select anyone you choose to select. Right? That sounds good but in reality interviewing a person to fill a job opening is one of the more difficult tasks you may face as a manager. It does require specific skills to do it right and increase your chance of hiring the ideal person for the job; the person that will stay and fit in with the culture of your company. That being said, I personally don't know of one company that has a formal program to train their managers on how to conduct an interview. Interview training is much the same as training managers how to conduct a performance review. It is a rarity to find a company that actually does it. |

So what is the Definition of a Manager?
| |
| A classic definition of what managers are about is that ‘Leaders do the right thing and managers do things right’. A more standard definition is that managers would work towards the organisation’s goals using the resources at their disposal.
It of course also depends on the size of the organisation. Larger companies might require managers to oversee the efforts and achievements of a further level of managers. A General Manager might have several other managers reporting to him or even several levels of management reporting to each other. |

Leveraging Your EMT (Executive Management Team)

Predominantly it should be made up of your most trusted Managers currently playing an important role in the company's success. The top managers in your company are the ones to carry the message and insure execution of your plan. If you have high level managers that you don't trust or you don't feel can contribute to the team effort --- you might just have the wrong person in that position. |
