Herd Mentality
| |
| Booths featuring products and services related to employee engagement, web-based delivery, global performance, and talent management were overflowing with conference attendees as I walked the trade show at a national conference where I was speaking. Public Sector Procurement and the Wal-Mart Effect
| |
| In Part 4 of my Changing Face of Procurement conference series titled Winning Strategies for Vendor Engagement I ask attendees the question; “is your current e-procurement initiative a threat or a benefit to your supply base?”
While the answer is of course important, what is of greater significance is whether or not your organization has even considered the impact its current strategy is having on these important external stakeholders.

When to Hire Your First Sales Rep
| |
| Recently I was speaking at a conference in Vancouver when one of the attendees approached me after my speech with an interesting question. He said he was a technology reseller and was getting very serious about bringing his business to the next level. In order for him to focus more on his business, he needed to get out of the role of selling and completely dedicate himself to running his business. His question was, when should he hire his first sales rep. Interesting question since you would think that if he was ready to move forward, as he said, then the answer was simple – hire the sales rep now. But it’s a bit more complicated than that. So here is what I told him. |

But, It Will Take Too Long
| |
| Sitting in a waiting area above the tradeshow floor, I watched the forklift drivers deliver crates and boxes to small groups who were waiting to transform their rented cement floors into inviting marketing endeavors for the next day's expo opening, hosting seven thousand conference attendees.

Using New Event Marketing to Promote Your Small Business
| |
| Organizing an educational event such as a seminar or conference is a great way to get out of the office and network with prospective clients and promote your small business within your community. However, a traditional event marketing format presents some challenges to small business owners, including the costs of putting on an event, creating buzz ("Not another breakfast speaker series"), being able to offer attendees value, etc. So how can your small business take advantage of the benefits of educational event marketing while minimizing some of the risks and pressures associated with putting on a successful seminar or conference? |

Customers Don’t Know How To Buy – Or Do They?
| |
| A friend recently returned from the recent Sales 2.0 conference and told me of a complaint she heard several times from attendees: “Customers don’t know how to buy.”
This, said by sellers blaming buyers for not behaving as sellers would prefer. Or not responding appropriately to seller’s selling patterns. |

Learned a Marketing Lesson at the AME Conference
| |
| The relationship to that concept was demonstrated at the AME Conference. The attendees and exhibitors have been thru the top section of the hourglass and now are in the bottom half. Not to sound too clinical, but they were the Buyers of the program. The next step in the funnel is the Repeat stage. AME started marketing the next conference in Baltimore immediately after you signed up for this one. |

There's More Than One Way to Make Money From Webinars
| |
| Even presenters who recognize the opportunity in paid webinars sometimes think the only way to make money from webinars is by selling individual tickets to attendees. The problem with this approach, as anybody who's run a public seminar will tell you, is it's difficult to get attendees ("bums on seats"). You need to do a lot of advertising, have access to a big mailing list, invest a lot of time following up people who register interest... or some combination of these three! |
