Twelve Ways to Improve Your Marketing Message
| |
| Effective marketing writing's a lost art. More and more marketing copy is resorting to hyperbola, factual recitation and self-important puffery. If you want to see how your marketing copy stands up (and sell more as a result), ask yourself the following twelve questions. |
|
|
Goal Epidemic
| |
| Are you setting goals for yourself and/or your organization with conviction? Even worse, are you part of the audience at large that does not make a habit of setting goals? If I were to audit all the goals you set for yourself and your organization for the last 5 years, what percentage did you achieve? If you have success rate of less than 90%, you need to read this article.

Lesson #1: Stick With It
| |
| “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it,” said Ford. |
|
|
Lesson #2: Build a Strong Reputation
| |
| As he testified before a House committee that was investigating his economic dominance over America, J.P. Morgan was asked whether commercial credit was based more on money or property. Morgan replied, “The first thing is character…before money or anything else. Money cannot buy it.” |

|
Lesson #2: Never Stop Putting Up A Fight
| |
| “I was very committed to the people that had signed on with me and if we were going to go down, we were going to go down with a fight,” says Smith. “It wasn't going to be because I checked out and didn't finish it out.” |
|
|
Lesson #1: Be Willing To Roll the Dice
| |
| “In retrospect it was ridiculous to try to put this system together,” says Smith, “which required so much up front money, and required changing a lot of government regulations, but I didn't know that at the time…I didn't know that I couldn't do this.” |

Lesson #1: A Happy Customer Is Your Walking Advertisement
| |
| “When this business was founded, it sought to win public confidence through service, for it was my conviction then, as it is now, that nothing else than right service to the public results in mutual understanding and satisfaction between customer and merchant,” said Penney. “It was for this reason that our business was founded upon the eternal principle of the Golden Rule.” |

Why Smart Companies Do Dumb Things
| |
| Not a day goes by when I don’t ask myself, “Why do smart companies do such dumb things?” We all know companies that cook the books and throw outrageous parties at one end of the spectrum to sell lousy products at the other. A sweeping answer is that companies are run by smart people, and smart people do dumb things as we’ve learned. |

Persistence
| |
| My dream to be a speaker was born in 1952 . . . . However, it wasn't until 1968 that I was able to go full-time in the business, and it wasn't until 1972 that my career really took off. In those intervening years, I was privileged to read a large number of excellent books and listen to outstanding speakers as I traveled countless miles driving to the "freebies" that I conducted. During this period my skills as a communicator slowly developed and my experience produced real-life stories and lessons that I shared with audiences of all kinds and sizes. I spoke to civic clubs, schools, rehab centers, prisons, churches--to virtually any group that permitted me to share with them. |

Appearance
| |
| Okay - I admit it - this one is extreme. Several years ago before I realized that my body retains ice cream, my wife and I were in our favorite ice cream parlor. An unusual-looking young man walked through the front door. In my lifetime I have never seen anything like it. His hair was sticking out in every direction and came to a point at the top so sharp that it was dangerous. He had every imaginable color represented - green, purple, orange, red, lavender, black - it was really a sight to behold! |

Are Your Beliefs Helping You or Hurting You?
| |
| Wherever you are in your life, you are exactly where you are because of your beliefs. Changing your circumstances and creating the life you really want starts with creating a high level of belief that allows you to feel that you can achieve anything you set your mind upon. With conviction and desire, you will be unstoppable because you will believe that anything is possible. As a result, you will create the life you have always dreamed about having. |

How to Get Business to Drop Out of the Sky
| |
| I think it's both predictable, phenomenal, and fulfilling. I'm talking about the magic that occurs when you and your salespeople leave their comfort zone and work hard to perform the very work, activity, behavior and actions that, left to their own devices, would choose not to do. Whether it's a salesperson who finally: |

Costly Auto Insurance Blunders
| |
| Failing to report an accident or crash promptly can be expensive. It is extremely important that you report an accident to your insurer ASAP. Your contract states that Failure to comply with this requirement and your other requirements after a claim or loss allows the company to deny your claim! |

|
What approach should I take when cold calling?
| |
| I encourage people to cold-call by coming from a place of 'contribution' first; I call this approach 'buying-in'. In highly resistant sales executions, like cold-calling, you have to buy-in before you can successfully sell-in because the mass of cold-callers that have gone before you, have trained your customers to ignore you. |

Always Do A Timing Check Before You Begin A New Venture
| |
| Today if you want to be a real estate investor you would buy foreclosures and hold. Most people know timing as it relates to trading stocks and bonds. Buy low sell high.
When you make a decision to make changes in your life always do a check for the right timing. This could make the difference between failure and success.
Yes, you have the ability to choose the best moment to get involved in an opportunity? |

Profitable Online Home Based Business Ideas and the Recession; If We can do it You can Too!
| |
| I can still remember the times Charmayne and I would dream and talk about the day we could stay home and just work our online in-home business full time. Sometimes it just seemed a far off dream. But we wanted that more than anything, and even during the difficult times when it seemed like it would never happen, we just believed that it would. We had met people that had started out just like us, with only a dream. We are nobody special; we just knew that if they could do it we could too! |

| Truth: You're not exciting or interesting enough for your customers go to the trouble of seeking you out. Why should they? You're predictable, measurable and safe - just like all your competitors. Your insights are second hand and you don't bring any WOW factor to the table. In fact, you're at the dinner table but you have nothing of any value to say. |

10 Ways To Empower Your Communication In Business

| "A Piece of Blarney Stone" 10 ways to empower your communication
The Blarney Stone is a historical stone, or actually part of the Blarney Castle in Ireland where it was believed that kissing the stone can grant you the gift of gab. Yeah, it seems strange in this day and age, but who are we to question tradition? It's not like I'm saying that Santa Claus doesn't exist (OOPS!).
There is so much to know about conversation that anyone, even I, could ever realize. You can go though watching talk shows; radio programs; clubs dedicated to public speaking; ordinary conversations; certain rules still apply when it comes to interaction through words. It may sound tedious, I know, but even though it's your mouth that's doing the work, your brain works twice as hard to churn out a lot of things you know. |

The Entrepreneur Sees Positivity in the Face of Adversity

Think You’re Not Good Enough?
| |
| Your success in anything, including business, is directly correlated with your desire and conviction. It is all in your thinking.
Ever have the doubt you were good enough at something and then have that stop you from even trying? In business, especially in this economy, doubting your senses and skills might be a familiar theme for many.
Yet in order for you to deal with that handicap you must play harder to compensate. |

How to Give your Startup Idea a Reality Check
| |
| I’m sure you all realize that there could be quite a distance between a great idea and a great startup. But many people don’t have a clue on how to bridge the gap. So, trying carefully not to rain on his parade, I suggested to my friend that he consider the following steps as a reality check before spending his life savings (and mine) to roll out a solution: |

Software Patents: Time for a Change
| |
| I always advise software startups to file patents to protect their “secret sauce” from competitors, and to increase their valuation. I don’t have much conviction that it really does stop competitors, but I do know the rule of thumb that every patent will add $1M to your startup valuation for investors, or for M&A exits (merger and acquisition). Yet the software patent process is a mess. I say this with conviction even after I survived the process, and have a software patent pending.

You Will See Results Pursuing Your Core Desire
| |
| When trying to discern your Core Desires, pay close attention to the responses and emotions elicited by the Search Question. You could overlook a key phrase, comment, or feeling if you are not careful. Emotions are not always easy to sense or detect.
Often people will answer the question flippantly, or without focus. Often I will hear a goal they have had for many years, and when I tell them it is not a 100 on the scale, they say things like "Okay, you want to know what I really want?" Then they say what is really in their heart and get right to the Core Desire. Sometimes they joke about a Core Desire- don't let this fool you. Oftentimes people joke about the things that are most important to them, because to get serious about it is quite painful. They joke around to hide the hurt. |

You Can’t Please Everyone
| |
| To attempt to please everyone is a surefire formula for misery and lack of success in life. As a speaker and author, I communicate a considerable amount of information. It is my conviction that I must give people information to put them in better position to make good decisions. It is not my place to tell them which decisions to make. |

Stress-Free Selling® - Easy Ways to Avoid Price Objections
| |
| Believe. Ah, the power of conviction. If we believe our prices are too high, we create price resistance. If we believe our prices are justified, appropriate, a good value, worth what we're asking, you will watch price objections disappear.
Of course this will not make all price objections disappear. What it will do is make many disappear. . . just because you believe.
Your lack of belief is like a giraffe to a lion. It devours you. You don't have a chance.
So, what's the solution? If you believe your prices are too high, you have three choices... |

What's makes us susceptible to distraction? Lack of confidence, questionable purpose, insufficient goals, low-grade filters, chemical disturbances, and so on. It's not email!
If you suffer from the battle of distractions, you may take twice as long to reach your goals. This part is obvious. But what about the impact on your personal health, your energy and your level of confidence? What else can we learn from today's authors, and when we pay attention to our own bodies? |

Regardless of the stage of the economic cycle and the availability of candidates for jobs, employers need to make the best hiring decisions possible for the dollars they invest in attracting and screening job candidates. Being authentic: How can you be who you really are?

| Finding who you really are, your true identity as a person, is a key need that people are searching for now, particularly leaders in organisations. Today, if leaders are to bring people with them they need to create resonance, and this is achieved through authenticity. The process of discovery is an individual one and is best gained through self-enquiry, self-awareness and interactions with others, often with skilled help. |

The truth is out there! How to take advantage of it
| |
| I find the concept of truth fascinating. Just like one person’s act of terror is another person’s freedom fight, one person’s truth is another person’s fantasy. Rumours are sometimes said with such conviction or spread so far that they become a “truth” no matter what the reality is. Without getting too political, the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq is a classic example of a truth that was fantasy. Can we make our version of the truth and if we can will this help us in life and business? |

Quit Managing and Start Leading!!
| |
| I want to warn readers that this article can, and hopefully will be, hazardous to the health of managers. It was written with the intention to both offend and challenge those who treat people as human cattle. I was inspired to write this article after speaking with two friends, one a mid-level employee and the other a senior executive with a company that was recently acquired by a corporate giant. Both calls were depressing, as these loyal and capable people were totally disengaged because their companies were so focused on the bottom line and, in their opinions, no longer cared about them. Worst yet, both of these individuals were considering leaving their organizations because of a genuine feeling that their respective companies no longer valued people. |
