It's Up To YOU To Get Yourself Out of Funk
| |
| A few years back, my relationship was not looking much healthier than the insane one that came before it. He had some issues that were clearly not designed to empower a committed relationship. He needed to do something about those issues or I was going to jump ship. Well, he wouldn’t. So I did something about it and didn’t jump ship. |

Gratification in Action

| Most people want instant gratification. The good news is that when you're pursuing genuine Core Desires, in most cases you experience constant gratification. You don't have to wait to have fun or joy when you are on the path leading toward your genuine Core Desire.
Having a life in which everything you do is driven by Core Desires-things you love to do or be-is the most satisfying and fulfilling way to live. When you embark on the journey to identify your Core Desires, you will open up to a new way of living-a life where everything you ever wanted will be available to you or you will be on the path toward it, and loving every minute of it. |

Turn On The Switch To Your Hidden Energy
| |
| Although many people acknowledge that we are born with an incredible, God-given power to do, have, or become whatever we want, no one has explained what it is or how to turn it on. We wonder, "Where is the switch to my hidden energy?"
Your Core Desire is the switch. Having your heart fixed on your Core Desires is how your latent talents, gifts, and abilities are unleashed. Once you have a genuine, clear, and accurately defined Core Desire, you will expend all the necessary effort, for as long as it takes, to overcome any obstacle in your way in order to achieve it. |

Core Desires Ignite the Conquering Force
| |
| Core Desires are the ignition mechanism for the Conquering Force. This is what a Core Desire can do in your life- ignite the Conquering Force within you. I've taught hundreds of karate students, most of whom indicated they wanted to be black belts, but few of them ever achieved that distinction. Not because they didn't have the ability but because it wasn't a Core Desire. The sooner you identify your Core Desires, the sooner your Conquering Force kicks in. Then, and only then, will you truly have what it takes to achieve at high levels, which is where the greatest joy and happiness can be found. |

Management and Mentoring with Unconditional Positive Regard
| |
| This article is the first of a series of three covering the core conditions model developed by Carl Rogers and its application to Management and Mentoring. These core conditions were developed for use in Person Centred Counselling Psychotherapy and from my experience have great relevance to Management in general and my Mentoring practice in particular.
Carl Rogers’ view was that everyone should be judged positively no matter what (and I mean no matter who they are or what they have done). Rogers described it as “Unconditional Positive Regard” or UPR for short. The Rogerian view is that everyone is born with a positive approach but held back by externally imposed “Conditions of Worth”. |

Management and Mentoring with Empathy
| |
| This article is the second of a series of three covering the core conditions model developed by Carl Rogers and its application to Management and Mentoring. These core conditions were developed for use in Person Centred Counselling Psychotherapy and from my experience have great relevance to Management in general and my Mentoring practice in particular.
The first article dealt with Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR) where I as a Mentor approach the client or a Manager approaches their team member with a totally positive view and look to assist to remove the externally put barriers to growth that are in the way of the team member or client in achieving their objectives. But there is more to the requirement than just approaching the client in a positive frame. One has to understand their position, truly. This is where Empathy comes in. |

Management and Mentoring with Congruence
| |
| This article is the third of a series of three covering the core conditions model developed by Carl Rogers and its application to Management and Mentoring. These core conditions were developed for use in Person Centred Counselling Psychotherapy and from my experience have great relevance to Management in general and my Mentoring practice in particular.
The first two articles dealt with two of the core conditions in Roger’s model, namely Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR) and Empathy. The third condition is however slightly more complex. In direct terms the word Congruence implies “Harmony” and in other definitions it is called “being Genuine”. However neither of these is fully descriptive of the concept being discussed here.

Practice, Practice, Practice then Play
| |
| In the sporting world it is expected that athletes make the time to practice, practice, practice and then go and compete or play the game. Through regular practice they hone their skills, behaviours and attitudes to ensure they are ‘match fit’ and ready to compete at the highest standards.
A sports team needs to make sure that when they are in the thick of the game they can draw upon those skill drills and practice sessions to perform well as a team and perform well under pressure.
When an individual athlete is neck and neck with a competitor racing for the finish line they need to know how to dig deep and draw upon their experiences, skills, and mental and physical reserves to cross the finish line first. This cannot happen without lots of conscious, purposeful practice. |

Simplicity and Elegance: Expressing Your Core Competencies
| |
| Core competencies are one or a combination of a few unique or rare abilities; however, a description of core competencies is not simply a laundry list of various organizational attributes. Naming your core competencies can be very difficult because we, as business leaders or managers, often mistake our daily tasks as our organizational imperative. |
