Eleven Ways to Generate Leverage from Your Business
| |
| Too many businesses – even fairly large ones -- are more like mom and pop entities that take too much time to run, barely make a profit after factoring in the owners’ time, and aren’t worth much on sale. Business owners need to develop sources of leverage so that their business runs without them. That way, work becomes more enjoyable and the business becomes more valuable.
This article describes eleven ways that business owners can generate leverage in their business. |

Turn On The Switch To Your Hidden Energy
| |
| Although many people acknowledge that we are born with an incredible, God-given power to do, have, or become whatever we want, no one has explained what it is or how to turn it on. We wonder, "Where is the switch to my hidden energy?"
Your Core Desire is the switch. Having your heart fixed on your Core Desires is how your latent talents, gifts, and abilities are unleashed. Once you have a genuine, clear, and accurately defined Core Desire, you will expend all the necessary effort, for as long as it takes, to overcome any obstacle in your way in order to achieve it. |

Core Desires Ignite the Conquering Force
| |
| Core Desires are the ignition mechanism for the Conquering Force. This is what a Core Desire can do in your life- ignite the Conquering Force within you. I've taught hundreds of karate students, most of whom indicated they wanted to be black belts, but few of them ever achieved that distinction. Not because they didn't have the ability but because it wasn't a Core Desire. The sooner you identify your Core Desires, the sooner your Conquering Force kicks in. Then, and only then, will you truly have what it takes to achieve at high levels, which is where the greatest joy and happiness can be found. |

12 Steps to Implementing Anything in Your Business : Step Three: Organise your Staff and Create a Strategy
| |
| Step two dealt with the creation of a good clear assignment. Now, I want to speak about how to respond to a clear assignment, once you have created one. You do this by organising your staff and creating a strategy.
What I mean by organising your staff is the creation of a core team. This team will be responsible for the implementation process in your business. If you have a small staff number in your particular business then you can do one of two things, make your entire staff the core team or select one person who will "champion" the process.

4 Ways We Kill Innovation
| |
| Yet when we separate innovation from our core business, set it apart as a unique process or proposition - we position innovation as "outside" our core business. We make innovation the exception rather than the rule, treat it as a point in time exercise rather than an integral part of the way we operate on a daily basis. Only when we embrace innovation as a conscious and continuous part of our daily actions can we reap the will rewards of innovation. |

Align Your Strategy and Operational Plans to Core Competencies
| |
| Core competencies are the underpinnings of an organization’s skills and the cornerstone of successful strategic execution. Core competencies represent the fundamental knowledge, abilities, and expertise of an organization. They are what make individuals and organizations unique. Furthermore, your ability to understand and measure organizational core competencies is a critical factor in reaching your desired goals.

Don’t let words get in the way when preparing your business plan
| |
| Many first time business planners have the following issues in preparing a business plan:
• Deciding on the document structure that best suits their business and planning requirements
• Writing an executive summary
• Waffling about their businesses that obscures the core messages to the reader
• Understanding where to start with the financials
The core problem with the standard business planning process is that it is open ended. Even templates don’t help a great deal.

Bringing Values to Life
| |
| During the 1980s, when I was co-founder and leader of The Achieve Group, we worked with California-based Zenger Miller and Tom Peters to implement a culture-change process based on Peters' and Bob Waterman's book, In Search of Excellence. Adding to, and building upon, the work of their McKinsey & Company colleagues, Terrence Deal and Allan Kennedy, Peters and Waterman showed that the cultures of excellent companies are grounded in core values.
The idea of clarifying core values was new for many management teams at the time. We helped hundreds of teams in centering their change-and improvement-effects around their vision, as well as a set of three to five core values that best defined the culture they were trying to reinforce, change, or improve. |

| Building the core of a business is essential, but not always easy to do. Simplicity and Elegance: Expressing Your Core Competencies
| |
| Core competencies are one or a combination of a few unique or rare abilities; however, a description of core competencies is not simply a laundry list of various organizational attributes. Naming your core competencies can be very difficult because we, as business leaders or managers, often mistake our daily tasks as our organizational imperative. |
