Strategic Advice For Giving Feedback From Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach
One of the most critical activities of a coach, mentor, supervisor or anyone that oversees the work of others is to provide feedback to let them know, in a timely and ongoing way, how they are performing. People committed to continuous improvement welcome the opportunity to discuss their strengths and areas for improvement in their performance. Feedback must encourage self-reflection& raise self-awareness. Traditionally, formal feedback is planned as part of a performance appraisal and includes an assessment of how the person is progressing toward meeting his or her goals. Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach has some advice for those of you that do performance reviews and also offers ten (10) tips to help you achieve a productive and powerful feedback system with people you coach, mentor and/or supervise.

I'll Do It Tomorrow? Tomorrow Has Come And It's Time To Get Organized!
I frequently hear business professionals say, "One of these days I really need to get organized!" Yet this task seems to be put on the back burner regularly because of more pressing things which need attention. What I've observed is that, until my clients consistently pay attention to non-urgent but important tasks -- tasks such as getting organized, weekly planning, self-care, and other preventive kinds of activities -- the urgent activities seem to multiply…sometimes to a critical state.

Grow Your Business by Saying No
As a business owner your time is precious. You probably have multiple requests from people that are pulling you in many directions. But, if you say yes to every invitation that comes your way, you will not have time for the activities that are critical to growing your business.

Getting Along with Critical People
We can all be critical. Every day, we literally critique everything that goes on around us consciously and unconsciously. Unfortunately, some people tend to verbalize the thoughts many of us have learned to keep to ourselves. When things don't go our way or we're in a bad mood it is easy to become critical. It's true, miserable people prefer miserable company. Critical people actually feel better around others who share the same negative attitudes. Before we spend time learning how to cope with other people's critical traits let's make sure we have our own well under control. It can be quite challenging to get along with a critic, especially when we live, work or attend church with them. Here are 10 tips to help you get along better with critical people.

Think and Prepare for the Future with Strategic Planning
Great leaders understand that the thought and planning process is critical to long term sustainability, future business growth and achievement of goals. In the big picture, this is more important than day to day operations and activities read on to learn more...

Desperate Times Don’t Call for Desperate or Deceptive Measures
As markets tighten and people’s sentiment can tend towards the negative it is critical that we don’t get spooked. As mentioned before in the article about “Watch who you let near your mind” we need to examine all the evidence at hand, make informed decisions about our market and continue to ensure that our prospecting and sales efforts are targeted and at the forefront of our business activities. We also need to make sure that we continue to conduct ourselves in an ethical and professional manner working with our clients not against them. However in desperate times (and maybe it is all the time for some) some people stoop to new lows to try and get a sale. Here are a few examples of unethical and fraudulent behavior masquerading as sales activities. So beware.

Off the Cuff --- Sales Execution
Execution involves the day-to-day activities of the salesperson. For most industries, this entails both planned, proactive tasks and opportunistic, reactive events that the salesperson uncovers by doing the right things in the right place at the right time. It's critical that the progress of the tasks in target action plans is carefully monitored to avoid surprises. This is the equivalent of monitoring your daily exercise before the effects start to show up on the scale. The SEP circumvents the most common mistake made in distribution today: trying to manage results. You must manage activities because it's the activities that produce results. Once the results are in, the horse is out of the barn and everything you do from that point on is reactive. If you proactively manage the activities, the expected results will follow.

Are You Working in the Red Zone, or Just Working?
What is worth the effort in your business? Where does your productivity and focus pay off the most? Of course, the activities that produce the greatest results are not the easiest. The biggest successes often come when we are in the difficult, magnified, and critical “red zone.”

Why Make Investments in Culture
Most CEOs are so busy solving critical problems they have no time to invest in improving the culture of their organization. This is a big mistake. The attached article explains the paradox and offers three key benefits to inventing in culture improvement activities.

Priorities and Schedules
Each of us on a daily or weekly basis somehow reduce our activities to a schedule. Some people use formal organizers or planners; others scribble notes on blank sheets of paper; and still others use obscure systems that defy description. But, in our own way, we each come up with a mental or literal "to do" list for the day. As we examine our list of activities each day, we generally prioritize them. That is, we determine which of these activities is the most important and which can wait till later if necessary.

Downsizing Mistakes
When organizations need to downsize, it is not a fun time for anyone. There are so many ways to do it poorly, and they detract from critical objectives. While there is no magic wand to make downsizing activities happy times, I believe the behavior of higher transparency is one best practice that should be used more often.
