The Corporate Crystal Ball
From local governments and charities to multinationals, a well-planned and implemented strategic planning program has helped these organizations plot their preferred future, rather than simply scrambling to react to change – good or bad – as it happens. To be effective, strategic planning must have structure. Thus, there is a pre-process. The course it travels will, naturally, vary according to resources, need, and whether or not this tactic has been tried in the past. But whatever the circumstances, there are a few basics to consider.

Leadership Strategy - Remove The Deal Breaker to Success And Happiness
The caveat during transitions, whether personally or new directions professionally, are past beliefs and paradigms fighting against change. The inner saboteurs are in their warring gear standing steadfast to have you believe that it is safer to stay put or you will end up in a worse position. They are determined to convince you that the "right" choice is not to rock the boat otherwise you will sink!

Crystal Ball
Today’s economic situation is new to all of us, and the size and complexity of the modern problem may seem to diminish what we have learned and practiced for years. Let’s apply what we know, perform the basics, and at the same time pay attention to current events, trends and indicators. Read your own crystal ball, establish what you believe will occur, and act accordingly.

10 Commandments of Leadership-Ethics and Integrity in Leadership
The high road in this commandment describes a commitment to and consistency with ethical behavior in the working environment. Even beyond the workplace, it is the application of value sets to daily decision making and interactions with the team being lead. It is also a core competency related to protecting the credibility of the leader.

Staying Motivated In A Struggling Economy
Fear is a very powerful emotion. When we live in fear, even of the unknown, there is a tendency to isolate, exert control and be on the defensive. It drains our energy and creates exhaustion. The majority of coaching conversations I am having these days are about this fear generated by a struggling economy. Worry over business progress, finding a job, salary and bonus eliminations, increased job performance expectations have taken over people’s mindsets thus decreasing motivation and focus for themselves and their business.

Marketing the Truth
In many respects the public has lost trust in the media and what it reports. Unfortunately this includes our sales message, a little like allowing political rhetoric to be the reason the baby is thrown out with the bathwater. This article takes a look at where we are now and where we should strive to be.

The Future Workplace
Where and how people work in the future will have little resemblance of what we have today. A crystal ball view of the future does not exist, but many forces will dramatically change the workplace. For sure, organizations will go through constant experimentation as they struggle to stay competitive. What will appear chaotic to some – specifically those presently employed – will seem natural to other, especially the “Y” Generation, our next American workforce.

Let’s apply what we know, perform the basics, and at the same time pay attention to current events, trends and indicators. Part 1 - After the ball is over
The ball is very definitely over. A good time was had by all but what a mess to cleanup! This cleanup has been compounded by the errant behaviour of some of the leaders and organizers of the ball: unbounded greed, ethical standards have been eroded, personal values have been overturned, virtues have been diminished to the point of ridicule, morality has been questioned, integrity has been ignored, trust forgotten and the meaning of life seems to have been lost. This cleanup will be a massive task.

There is a Storm Brewing - A Labor Storm
How long will this storm last? Have you prepared? Do you have an umbrella? Are you ready to head for the basement when the sirens roar? Unfortunately, we don't have the technology to literally see the future. So, we must depend on studies and the research of futurists to be our crystal ball. We know a labor storm is brewing but we just don't know how intense it is going to be.

Evaluate your Customer Needs
How do you increase speed in your marketing? It actually is very easy. You must target your market. Most professionals lose jobs because they do not make their offers crystal clear to their prospect. The prospects must understand completely, without a doubt what benefits they will receive and what the outcomes will be from working with you or using your product. You must be crystal clear in your definition. However, are you crystal clear in what you will be offering?

There are always opportunities
These are not good times for retailers. The unemployment rate is very high, and those who have jobs are afraid of losing them.. The spending habits of people have changed and unless they get a good bargain, will think twice before opening up their pocketbooks. The morals of most of the people in my industry – retailers, tenant coordinators, architects, store planners, contractors, fixture vendors etc., seem to be at the lowest point since I have known them. These are people who at one time were extremely positive. Some are predicting that things will not get better till 2013 – the sense of impending doom is everywhere!!!!!! This is the very same reason I, on the other hand am extremely optimistic!! Granted, I don’t have a crystal ball to see the future, BUT, there are plenty of reasons to be upbeat about the future.

Looking Back to Look Ahead
I am often asked to predict the future of leadership. That's a dangerous business. I am reluctant to join the economists, futurists, and others who live by the crystal ball...and soon learn to eat ground glass. However, as we enter the new millennium we can look back through history and discover the timeless leadership principles that have guided successful societies, organizations, and individuals through uncertain and rapidly changing times. Inner (leading ourselves) and outer (leading others) leadership has never been more critical.

Eye on the Ball
Like millions of people around the globe, I've been enjoying the World Series featuring my beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and at the same time, savoring a great football season. We all marvel at the talent and skill of professional athletes but, sometimes, it is baffling why the most highly-trained and talented people anywhere will fail to catch the most routine ball that comes to them. These are players who, in many cases, are paid millions of dollars a year for the sole purpose of catching a ball. And yet, on a significant number of occasions, they drop a ball that could have been caught by a Little League player.

How to Market Your Small Business When the Future is Uncertain
"On the horizon we have taxes, regulations, changes in Medicare and Medicaid, particularly at the state level. When you consider the tightening of credit, looming inflation, an anemic housing market, a weakening dollar, our tremendous debt, foreign competition, coupled with future oil and gas prices, it’s no wonder the small business owner has a hard time getting a good nights sleep. If there was ever a need for a crystal ball… it’s now."
