Lesson #5: Don’t Chase the Quick Buck, Think Long-Term
“You can do the math 15 different ways, and every time the math tells you that you shouldn’t lower prices because you’re going to make less money” says Bezos with a giant laugh. “That’s undoubtedly true in the current quarter, in the current year. But it’s probably not true over a 10-year period, when the benefit is going to increase the frequency with which your customers shop with you, the fraction of their purchases they do with you as opposed to other places. Their overall satisfaction is going to go up.”

Inventory Targeting/Modifications
You can modify your inventory offerings without altering the flavor of your store to better serve your customers in a recession.

Lesson #1: Create a Brand that Can Be Loved, Honoured, and Obeyed
When Wang first opened up shop on Madison Avenue in New York, she was not just selling wedding dresses; what Wang was selling was service. Her goal was to help the women “that are running around looking for special dresses, looking to have everything taken care of because they have busy lives.” To that end, Wang’s shop also helped brides with their jewelry, shoes, hairdos, and more. “I’m creating an image, a brand and a name,” she says.

List Building And The Successful Entrepreneur
Obviously as an entrepreneur you want to be successful but what if I told you that you are probably letting your next customers walk on past your shop or your web site? What if you were also wasting a high proportion of your marketing dollars? Gives you a pause for thought doesn’t it?

Build Customers’ Trust in You by Listening and Learning
Customers trust humble (“teachable”) salespeople. Customers don’t shop price with salespeople they trust. Salespeople build trust by listening and sincerely wanting to learn about the customer.

Can your customers be as loyal as a big brown dog?
Because most businesses monitor new sales as the key measurement of healthy, existing customers are often forgotten about until they "shop" again. While focusing on new business is important, so is building a relationship with those you've already sold. So, how does a business foster loyalty with its customers? How is blogging good for a business?
There’s a shop, which has opened recently, very near to where I live. I pass it every day during my walks and not once have I seen a customer in there. Not once! The shop in question is a clothes hire shop. You can hire ball-gowns, dinner suits, kilts, wedding dresses…that sort of thing. I think they are in the wrong location but they need to start marketing and I think blogging would be a great way to start. They have a website. The domain name is underneath the shop front logo.

Make it easy for your customers to buy!
If you want your customers to spend with you why not make it easy? This may seem obvious to you, but it is not always obvious to most business owners and I would like to get you thinking a bit here. Let me explain by example... I have just got back from a break myself and the guy that owned the apartments also owned the small supermarket down the road. The apartments were self catering so it would be good for the owner if the people staying there were to cook food and purchased from his shop. When we arrived he took time to mention his shop so that we would visit, which we duly did and I am sure you are waiting for the but here...and there is and not just one the way I see it.
