Inspiration
During my time away from blogging about entrepreneurship in Africa, I have been inspired by the works of my neighbors ( in the Africa blogosphere). So I wanted to highlight a few of the posts that have left me in adoration.

Clint Eastwood
There was an article recently in “Selling Power Magazine” that featured the quiet management (directing) style of none other than Clint “The Man” Eastwood. For all you busy Execs out there that might not be up on the movie scene, last year Eastwood’s Million Dollar baby won four Oscars including best director and best picture with worldwide gross sales of more than $208 million dollars from an original $30 million dollar budget. He was turned down three times before getting the backing to make the picture. This is nothing new for Eastwood. His directing debut in 1971 saw him gross 10 times the one million dollars it cost to produce “Play Misty for Me” and he completed the film $50,000 dollars under budget. Eastwood takes immense pride in his frugality.

Building an Empire: Oprah’s Formative Years
Oprah’s ambition did not diminish with the success of The Oprah Winfrey Show. After her successful acting debut in The Colour Purple (1985), Oprah’s desire to expand into the film and television industry was further fueled. In 1988, Oprah became the third woman in the American entertainment industry to own her own studio when she created Harpo Studios. Oprah’s name read backwards, Harpo is a television and film production, magazine publishing and online media company in one. “I did this to really expand into the areas I wanted to and take over the show to create more time for me to do features and TV specials,” she said.

Oprah Winfrey Show
As the longest running daytime television talk show in America, and the highest rated talk show in all of television history, the Oprah Winfrey Show has become a staple of popular culture since its debut on September 8, 1986. Now in its 21st season, the Oprah Winfrey Show’s popularity is such that it has been renewed to run until 2011, which will put it on the air for a quarter of a century.

Why doesn't every bookstore carry my books?
Many new authors will be so excited about their debut book that they don't ask their publisher the right questions about distribution. Many assume that their books will get automatic placement in every bookstore across the country. Then the sad reality hits them.

Access Granted: Stephanie Okereke on the Making of "Through the Glass" Film
Whether in Nollywood or Hollywood, it is rare to find women, especially Black/African women, in executive film roles such as producers and directors. Nollywood A-list Actress Stephanie Okereke bucks the trend with the debut of her first film called "Through the Glass," in which she wrote, produced and directed. "Through the Glass" is about phobias we have in entering committed relationships. It also cuts to the core by addressing some of the reasons we have such phobias, for example, childhood pain. Okereke recently released a trailer of "Through the Glass" and the response has been lots of excitement and buzz! Amidst all the excitement, Ladybrille caught up with the A-list actress for an exclusive all access granted on the making of "Through the Glass." http://www.throughtheglassmovie.com/

Eyes Across the Room
Having tried the new fangled thing of internet dating, with less than great success, undeterred I decided to go back to tried and tested measures, a bar! Spending time going through the wardrobe, trying everything on before even looking into the mirror, with the odd slurp of vino to help my judgment! Just knowing "it does not feel right", my debut into a bar with music and full of strangers, is like preparing for the opening of the Olympics. Some kind friends have said "come out with us", (all couples of course, but I am very grateful for their invitation).

To Dream the Impossible Dream
"To dream the impossible dream, to right the unrightable wrong that is my quest" What happens when your dream is somebody else's nightmare? Having made my debut into the Costa Blanca Social Scene, (quite successfully - I felt), well I did end up at home, in one piece, (maybe a bit wobbly), I was enthused to participate more. So, during these two weeks I have made a concentrated effort: 1 party, 2 Business Meetings, 5 bars (not all with vino), 1 tarot reading (I need all the help I can get) and a meal out with a friend (not male).
