Working with Ethical Gray Areas
| |
| The bottom line in leadership is that ethics cannot be codified or dictated. Ethical behavior is dependent upon the judgment and decision making by the leader. The best leaders are consistent and deliberate in their decisions when ethical gray is present. They communicate the decision, and more importantly, the reasons for their decision. They often collaborate the decision, not to cover their rear ends, but to seek wise counsel and tap into the judgment of others.

A Matter of Trust
| |
| Trust is the basis for all successful leaders and all successful relationships for that matter. You cannot buy trust, but it is free. Trust is priceless yet can be earned over time. Have you ever tried to request someone’s trust? Maybe it was a team member, customer or a colleague. You may have wanted a decision to be made in your favor. To overcome some initial disagreement and expedite the decision making process, you might resort to “Hey, just trust me!” That statement is worthless. Either the other party already trusted you based on your past actions or they did not trust you and your request won’t change that. Trust is not spoken, it is demonstrated. Trust cannot be requested, it must be earned.

Developing a Strategic Plan for Your Consulting Business
| |
| Strategic planning is like creating a map for an exciting journey you are about to take. The map will help keep you on course if you start going in the wrong direction but it isn’t so stringent that you can’t check out different roads along the way. After seven years of consulting, this is exactly what my strategic plan has done for me. Each year, I map out where I am, where I want to go, and how to get there. During the year, my plan is a guide for what I should be focusing on as well as a resource to help me do a "check" whenever I am tempted by something new and different. Sometimes, I rewrite my plan based on changes (i.e. technology, client request, economy, emerging trends) but many times it has helped me realize what is important and make the right decision with various opportunities and threats to ensure my long-term goals are met |

The most common reply to this request is “Yes we have a CRM module and this is the update charges”
Although the question is answered but it leaves many questions unanswered. |

Anatomy Of A Buying Decision
| |
| Before your prospect makes the decision to buy your product or service, four decisions must be made. For the most part these decisions will be made inside their heads or in conjunction with others depending on whether it is a joint decision making process or not.
In small to medium sized businesses one person may make the buying decision, but in larger companies it is usual for the decision be made by a group of people.
Whatever the amount of people involved in the buying decision, the same four decisions must be answered. |

Closing for a Commitment or Settling for an Agreement?
| |
| There comes a time when all your hard work and preparation come together, and the time is right to go for closure! This is the moment you go for commitment.
In business, whenever people interact, they make decisions ― a decision to talk, a decision to listen, a decision to act on a recommendation.
Ideally, as a leader you want your followers to make decisions that are both well-informed and high in confidence. The reason for this is two-fold. First, the higher your followers are in confidence when they reach a final decision, the more effort and quality they will put into carrying through that decision.

What\'s An Opinion, Anyway?
| |
| A client called me recently with what she said might sound like an odd request. "I need your 'opinion,'" she said, "and it has to be in writing. Can you do that? And what does that mean, anyway?" After reassuring her that it was not an odd request and that not only could I do it, I would, I gave her an explanation... |
