Business Working with Paranoid People by Valerie Orsoni
If I say: * Work place paranoia * Control freakiness * Aggressiveness * Lack of trust * Refusal to change * Distorted perspective * Intellectual rigidity ...does it ring a bell? These are but a few symptoms of what I call “workplace paranoia”. As we grow in our working environment we are “doomed” to one day be confronted by such paranoid people. Whether it is your boss, your partner, your employee or your assistant, their problematic behavior will inevitably impact yours.

Lesson #4: A Healthy Dose of Paranoia Will Put You Ahead of the Curve
Intel might have become the largest semiconductor in the world, but it wasn’t without missing a few opportunities along the way. Looking back, Moore and Noyce learned the importance of harnessing the power of paranoia. To some, paranoia is a psychotic disorder characterized by delusions of persecution. However, in the business context, paranoia amounts to being highly concerned and aware of potential threats to your company. Moore and Noyce came to understand that it was also one of the key traits for entrepreneurial success.

The definition of branding
One of my readers pointed out that they really appreciated the definition of marketing that I use throughout Duct Tape Marketing. Marketing is getting someone who has a need to know, like and trust you. Most small business folks, exposed only to more academic definitions, really seem to appreciate the truthfulness of that characterization. This same reader (Eddy) also asked then for my definition of branding (as it might relate to marketing)

How to trust yourself
“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” – Golda Meir Is there a “right” way to live and how do we know when we are successful? Is it based on our personal definition of success or our perception of our local society’s definition? In society there is a definition of success that, in the past, I have grasped to supplement my own limited ideas about what I wanted to do.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS (Don't Do It)
DON'T DO IT! At least don't do it now. Why do what, for the most part is expected as a part of the New Year's paranoia. What is this obsession anyway with making resolutions as a part of welcoming in the New Year?

The Holy Trinity Of Business Mentoring And Coaching
Whenever I’m discussing my philosophies on the purpose of hiring a mentor service, I sometimes notice an elephant in the room that no one wants to address: Just what the heck IS a mentor anyway? Sometimes it slips my mind that there isn’t a clear definition of what these types of services are for in business. My own personal definition of a mentor is pretty much the norm for the business world, but should probably be reviewed, regardless.

Definition Of Sourcing – Not As Simple As It Sounds
The definition of sourcing can be simple and much more complex. The simple definition is “the processes involved in identifying potential vendors, conducting negotiations with them and then signing purchasing agreements with them to provide goods and/or services that meet your company’s procurement needs”.

IT'S GOOD TO BE PARANOID
n the past, paranoia was viewed negatively; however, today paranoia reflects the reality of business today.

Today’s Definition of Strategic Planning
A quick Google search for definitions of strategic planning will yield numerous variations. Often these definitions point to the blatant misunderstanding of what strategic planning truly is. At other times the term is flat out misused. In the end, we find that strategic planning lacks a widely accepted definition. It seems everyone in the field of planning has a different view on the exact definition. Yet, the definitions we most embrace, convey in one form or fashion, that the idea of strategic planning is to build and sustain competitive advantage by defining desired outcomes and creating some sort of go-forward plan to achieve those outcomes. This article offers a modern definition of corporate strategic planning.

Monsters Under the Bed
Do you remember laying awake at night worrying about monsters under your bed? The same paranoia can exist in organizations as well. Some groups become paralyzed by fear of the unknown. It can stifle creativity and strangle progress.
