Using Value Stream Mapping Software
There is a lot of dispute about Value Stream Mapping software, and whether it should be used or not used. Most Lean practitioners will tell you that early introduction into converting your Value Stream Map into a computer generated document will hurt the overall flow of the procedure and be a detriment to the brainstorming process. They prefer using post-it-notes or pinning paper to a wall. Allowing as many people to interact is the whole point. I have a tendency to agree with the statement.

Are you winning too much?
Winning too much is one of the most common issues we see in successful people, from the executive suite to the top salespeople. The suggestion that this might be a detriment is usually followed by an incredulous look from the recipient. After all, shouldn’t everyone want to win all the time? Actually, this one behavioral problem belies many others.

Lesson #4: “Every market has unique characteristics”
Hawkins works in one of the most fiercely competitive global industries. But what he has learned over the years is that what works well in one country, could blow up in his face in another. Knowing the unique characteristics of his markets is thus one of his most important tasks as an executive.

Fundamentals First
Here are some fundamental marketing rules for living life in the slow (but safe) lane:

Celebrate Your Victories
Q109 is over. The numbers are starting to roll in. After all the gloom and doom at the end of 2008, I’m very pleased with the performance of most of the companies in our portfolio. As I mentioned the other day, some struggled, but many met or exceeded their Q109 plans, and several of them destroyed them (sandbaggers, how I love thee.)

Yes You Can Change Your World - But Change Begins With You
They say that in a corporate environment it can take years for someone to get promoted, quit, or die so that you can move up. However, one’s ability to move forward to the bigger office, bigger responsibility, or bigger paycheck is only limited by words and thoughts. Someone who understands the power of a positive mindset, moves freely up the ladder of success, while their water cooler mentality counterpart remains stuck in his puddle of negativity.

How much are your salespeople really worth?
Commission only salespeople can be effective - however one of the major problems with a comm-only sales strategy is that salespeople in these roles, more often than not, become all about 'the sell' for obvious reasons: no sale -no pay -no eat!

The Hard Sell
I declare right up front that I am not, and never have been a fan of the Hard Sell. You have probably guessed that from all my previous posts. And if you ask most people about what they think about the profession of selling they will often describe something akin to the ‘Hard Sell'. Of late I have also noticed a rise in ‘hard sell' stories where people are being unnecessarily pressured to buy or sales people being pressured to sell at almost any cost. The hard times may be pushing some people to do things they wouldn't normally do like the "Hard Sell".

What You Want vs. What You Need
Real failure leads directly to transition. Real failure at midlife leads to transformation. When you finally reach that moment of desperation when all your best thoughts and efforts lead you to the brink of catastrophe (and perhaps over), you may then be ready to let go of what you want in favor of what you need.

Let Go of Your Need to Be Right
An article of 1412 words describing the importance of valuing human life, feelings and relationships over your idea and the need to be right.

Are you in a 'BS' Business?
A Balance Sheet Business, or 'BS Business', is a business set up solely for the purposes of generating money and extracting shareholder returns. In a BS Business the customer's are essentially a means of which to generate a profit, instead of being the true nature and purpose of the business. This money making psychology takes precedence over all else, even at the detriment of team members and customers. When a business and its

Should incentives for my salespeople be aimed at quick cash in the door or long-term growth?
In the current economic climate, there is little difference between short term and long term. No one can confidently predict what's going to happen next month - let alone next year. Front-end sales incentives designed to stimulate action are a good idea. Sales people should always be rewarded for success, but (and it's a big BUT) not at the expense and integrity of your company's value proposition and reputation.

"Bottom-line" Culture vs. a Healthy One?
Since the mid-90's, research has shown that when people love their job and get great value out of the experience, productivity and profits are up, turn-over and burn-out are down. In fact, I recommend organizations consciously use fun as a cultural expectation, because it will increase employee and customer retention/relations, motivate individuals/teams, and ultimately improve overall productivity.

Qualities of Excellent Leaders: Leading an Organization to Triple Digit Growth
The ability of any organization to experience explosive growth hinges on the quality of leadership in the executive office. Whether you are a budding entrepreneur or established CEO hungry for results, the changes you want to implement will only go so far as your leadership ability allows. Imagine for a second that you want to experience triple digit growth this year, in this horrid economy. Some companies will certainly do it. The question is: will yours be one of them? These are the leadership traits you will need to get it done.

High Performance Sales Leadership
In sales, whether to lead or not to lead that is the question (all apologies to Shakespeare here). Or to put it another way, whether to lead or to manage in order to drive the required business results. There is no simple right answer to this apparently simple question.

THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES MARKETING AND HOW TO AVOID THEM
By John Doerr The science and art of professional services marketing have come a long way in the last few years. It is no longer impossible to find examples of marketing efforts planned well, executed well, and measured well. Yet, in spite of these great strides, I continue to see the same marketing sins committed over and over again to the detriment of the firms and the people steering the marketing ship. What’s frustrating about these sins is that they are all made by intelligent people who have the good sense and ability to avoid them.
