Creating a Leadership Development Agenda That Works
Companies invest heavily to develop leadership talent necessary to grow the organization. Most of this investment provides little return. After using conventional approaches for 15 years as a psychologist, human resources professional and change agent and finding little benefit, the author developed a new set of guidelines to develop leadership talent. This article provides five principles to grow talent.

1.1 Our mandate: Working Out of Poverty
The ILO is anchored in social justice. The opening phrase of the Constitution of the ILO, drafted in 1919, speaks to the headlines of today: “universal and lasting peace can be established only if it is based upon social justice”.

Training as a Cultural Experience
Participating in training and development programs either as a trainee in the early stages of my business and academic life, or as an instructor when I became more mature and qualified enough to instruct, provided me with an excellent exposure to different cultures. I found out that even when a workshop or a training program had a preset agenda and topics, once the trainees start to interact, the program turns into a very rich cultural and learning experience that ingratiates those of the participants who attended with a spirit to discover new terrains of knowledge.

Making business work for development: Rethinking corporate social responsibility
Business is everywhere. Some is crucial to development, while some is implicated in poverty, human rights abuses and environmental destruction. In recent years there has been an upturn in corporations taking responsibility for development challenges. Research shows this is a mixed blessing whilst development practitioners and policy makers could engage more critically to ensure real benefits for development.

Introduction: Fiscal Dimensions of Sustainable Development
One of the challenges facing the international community is to achieve sustainable development. Sustainable development has three pillars— economic development, social development, and environmental protection.

Master Your Game: Designing an Effective Meeting Agenda
An agenda planning session should occur prior to every meeting. Just as an architect wouldn't dream of showing up at a construction site without a well-thought out design, facilitators need to create their own blueprints for each session. Meetings can be a waste of time and energy if no one is prepared and participants are forced to make decisions without adequate information. Last month, we discussed meeting management styles. This month, we discuss the effective agenda. Use The Agenda As A Strategic Tool

Media Relations Training Should Focus On Knowing What Motivates Reporters
Automatically distrusting reporters could be a lost media relations opportunity. Welcoming them to your place of business or nonprofit and feeding their curiosity and professional pride by offering to act as a source ("on background," perhaps) could be a lasting step in the right direction. Trust them until they give you a reason not to. If that happens, by all means fight back. Go directly to their editors or producers and tell them you've been wronged. That way, you're going after their only real agenda - themselves. When I run media training seminars for government agencies, nonprofits and companies, the first topic I address is "agenda." There's a misonception out there the media routinely pursue political or personal agendas in the way they cover stories. The real agenda is their professional success.

Sustainable Business Development - Benefiting your Community
Sustainable Business Development was popularized just over 22 years ago by a report put out by the Brundtland Commission. The world economy was growing and throughout the late 60’s and into the 80’s world development advanced rapidly with little regard to the environment and the Brundtland Commission, which came out of the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development, characterized ‘sustainable development’ as: “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” As a business leader and entrepreneur, we can benefit from the agenda established as a result of these United Nation Conferences in order to combat Poverty, Change Unsustainable Patterns of Consumption and Protect Bio-Diversity and Natural Resources.

Are you ready for Sustainable Selling?
With the green agenda comes Sustainable Selling. More and more questions are being asked by many about how we can best manage this relationship now and for future generations? I recently attended and spoke at the 6th CIPS Australasia Annual Conference (peak industry body for the Procurement Profession) where Sustainability was well and truly on the agenda.

The agenda
The job of the CEO isn't to check things off the agenda. Her job is to set the agenda, to figure out what's next.
